What are the DOs and DONTs of choosing a design/template for a blog website that markets products??

I don't know if this should be considered a "foolish" question, but hey, I won't know until I ask. I am currently in the process of designing my own inspirational blog website using Wordpress that I eventually intend to sell products on. Right now I'm in the process of looking for a template that I like for my site but before I chose one, I wanted to know if there were any TYPES of templates that you are to avoid when doing blog website that you want to bring people back to continually and build up a following with the intention of eventually selling products? Basically, what type of templates/web page designs are more effective? Light colours? Dark colours? Simple designs? Complicated? Monochromatic?

    Using a template, that has light colors like blue and green are going to give... more of a relaxed environment to your visitors.

    Colors like black are edgy and more controversial, if your subject matter is controversial, then black works well.

    The colors green and purple and related to money and wealth, so if your site/blog focuses on this then give it a try. Colors do make a difference in marketing, test things out and see what works for YOU!
