Adding content after ranking

Hi.

If a page is already ranking, can adding/changing the content on the page affect ranking? We'd just like to add more copy, videos, etc to homepage. But have heard that when a page is already ranking to just "leave the onpage alone."

  • You can likely keep your ranking if you keep the same keywords that you ranked for. If you add more copy, just add some synonyms for the keyword you are ranking for as well as another instance or two of your primary keyword. That might improve things for you.

But also keep in mind that ranking can fluctuate with each Google algorithm update or overhaul and new or improved competition can affect your rankings. There are no guarantees whatever you decide.

  • Longer quality articles do tend to rank better (with the added bonus of more seeds for other keywords and phrases). However, in my experience, adding content to a successful post can be detrimental in terms of a particular keyword - other keywords and phrases may improve.

  • Yes, potentially it can; however, so can dozens of other things that are out of your control. Search engine algorithms, competition for the keywords you're ranked on, and even the number of searches done can all have an affect on your ranking.

"But have heard" . . . why would you put any stock in random things "you have heard?" What authority and expertise is behind "what you have heard?" Did it come from a Google expert or other person that knows and understands the field?

So what's stopping you from making your site better? Just do it! Test, keep track of the results, optimize your variables, then test some more. You can always return to where you are now if things don't get better.

If you don't act continually to improve your site, your offerings, your marketing, and your business in general because you fear the unknown you are dooming your business to mediocrity.

    The best to you,

    Steve

  • It is possible to change the page ranking, yes. But as long as you change the page for the hope of improving its content, readability, update, and etc, then it can rank better (and not the other way around).

  • I am grateful to have opened this discussion. This question is quite interesting to me. Finally the answer was found router login
  • Add helpful content Jenna and it will benefit your readers and business. Worry not about search engines; focus on benefiting your customers.
