I Feel This is the #1 Reason why Most People Don't See the Results They Want Online...

Are you making the kind of money you want to make online?

Are you seeing the results or progress you want?

If not, do you still feel that you have something else you
need to learn first?

In other words, do you feel it's because you haven't learned
THE right secrets yet?

Well, that alone could be THE biggest reason why you're not
making the kind of money you want online.

It's because you may think that you need yet ANOTHER
piece of information in order to succeed.

Since you haven't had the success you want... you think it's
because you don't KNOW what to do.

Because of that... you start to THINK that you DO need more
and better information.

So, yet again you buy more information. And it returns you, full
circle, to a cycle that keeps you from making any sales or money.

You keep seeking and buying stuff that keeps you READING
and not DOING.

The problem is, when you get stuck in that mode of always feeling
like you need "one more secret"... you continue on your never-ending
chase for MORE.

Again, it's a never-ending vicious circle that many people are
trapped in.

But here's the thing, information is NOT what's missing.

You DON'T need more info. You don't need another course, eBook,
or seminar.

You need more action.

You need more SELLING and producing.

If you continue to buy info product after info product...
you'll soon see it's a never ending process.

STOP seeking MORE knowledge. Stop trying to find the next
big thing.

You already possess MORE than enough information
to succeed.

Instead, start SELLING. Take action and get offers
out there, circulating.

Try to reach more people and offer them value.

I truly feel that's been the single biggest key to my
success.

I made the conscious choice, years ago, to stop being
a consumer of info, and instead, become a producer.

Instead of always buying... I started selling and making
more offers.

Believe me, once there's no more waiting or trying to absorb
more info... you can start creating, producing, and selling.

And it's the SELLING that makes you money. You can only make
money when you offer something for sale.

So please, remember that you don't need another info-product.

You need something valuable that you can offer others, in exchange
for money.

Do more of that, and you'll finally see the results you want online.

People need to learn the right information. It's that simple. It's stupid to suggest someone should take action before they're able to take action. Gung-ho doesn't work. Intelligence works. Knowledge works. And then? When you're nicely prepared? Action. The one thing I can agree on (and, to my credit, I made it through most of the above) is the need to avoid the mentality of "secrets." There are secrets, of course, but they tend to be short-lived; someone always spills the beans (usually me). If you're a new marketer reading this, learn the basics. Basic is the right word, but don't let that give you the impression of "few." There are many basics to learn.

All too often, the act of buying yet another info product or program is really a substitute for getting started. You tell yourself you just need to fill one or two more gaps and then you'll be ready to go.

As Shawn points out, if you've been studying internet marketing for any length of time, the chances are you already have enough information to get started. What's holding you back isn't the need for more. Either you don't have a clear enough idea of what you want to do, or you're waiting for some imagined Eureka moment that will propel you into action.

With that frame of mind, it's more likely that giving yourself even more to think about will only serve to fuel your indecision - which will tempt you to wait around for yet more information.

Obviously, everyone needs to have a handle on the basics, but the sooner you ditch those training wheels, the faster you'll progress.

thats so true Frank, been there myself. Its information overflow out there so I believe finding a mentor that you trust and are on the right path, and that is not asking you to join 5 programs at once of course, but can take you step by step. Everyone that starts should make a plan and committ to it, the plan can be changed off course but starting without a plan will perhaps take you into shiny objects and you are stepping back, loosing money, getting frustrated. Stick to a plan and one success at a time. If your upline is a rookie, find another mentor

You may not need more info but certainly, in many cases, you'll need more money.

Very few hit a home run at the beginning of their journey. There can be a lot of trial and error and, if you're reduced to driving traffic by generating clicks on Traffic Swarm or posting on free Buy & Sell Groups on Facebook, you can get frustrated very quickly.

"Done For You" opportunities abound and, in many cases, everything except driving traffic is taken care of for you. But driving traffic successfully most often involves some sort of investment and, while free traffic methods can be effective, they can take a very long time to produce results.

Many get involved in internet marketing because they are attracted to what they perceive to be a low cost to entry. That's certainly possible and, if you can bounce back from bogus opportunities and unexpectedly fierce competition, you can make a go of it.But, if you can't afford to experiment with advertising or solo ads, results will be slow in coming.

Many marketing gurus will share a 'hard luck' story about their first forays into online sales. Take these tales to heart. Of all the basic lessons you should learn it is these tales of difficult beginnings.

They can also serve as your source of inspiration as you continue to learn and grow.

There isn't a number one reason about anything other than eating more calories than you burn makes you fat.

Everyone's number one reason is different from the next guy/gal. Some are lazy. Some are not too bright. Some have no money. Some believe the myths. Some jump from project to project.

    The list goes on . . . . and on . . . . . and on!

This is right up there Shawne.

Fear rears its head again. Folks fear failure, and in their fear, search for something else, more, surplus, to prevent their failure fears from coming true. Meanwhile, following a simple strategy persistently - creating and connecting - from a generous energy would bring success, long term. The key: don't panic and jump ship for another tool or technique.

    Shawn,

    You're so right!

I had the mindset for years that I had to keep learning more, keep learning more, there was always some missing piece...

But then one day it just clicked. (Well, with the help of a couple of marketing mentors! LOL...)

    Don't buy content. Create it.

Don't purchase other people's stuff. Sell it. (Theirs or your own!)

    It's so strangely simple.

I'm not trying to sound condescending, because for whatever reason, having heard this before, it took some time for everything to actually "click" for me.

But once it did, I got razor-sharp clarity. I developed my entire funnel and haven't looked back. In fact, I look forward to creating more!

I'm always curious what stops others from creating content. But I was once in that spot.

It's one thing to know you have to do it. It's another thing to move past the fear, lack of desire, lack of time, or whatever else keeps you from creating content, and selling stuff (whether it's yours or someone else's product, you will have to create content of your own to be successful) and just START DOING IT.

Unfortunately we are indoctrinated to find all the answers first and then target a perfect score. That is our school system. You need to learn by doing, failing, making changes and failing again. Soon you will learn what works for you - and what works for you is different than what works for others. Most importantly, create value.

Honestly I think this the trap that most people fall into when they are trying to make money online. This is also something that I still struggle with in my business from time to time.

You just have to make the decision in your mind that you're going to take action no matter what. You have to make up in your mind that you're just going to keep pushing forward and stop thinking that you need to have more information before you can take action.

The more action you take the more money you make.

    Thanks for this reminder.

Well said. Most newbies read method after method, case study after case study, but end up not doing a darn thing about it. When they actually do take action, they do it half-heartedly and quit at the slightest sign of difficulty. That is why they fail.

You are right, but the market is loaded with many sellers and some countries are getting better at copying everything.

I think it is better to focus on offering products and services that stands out from the rest of the market. Make it unique, make it different, and make it attractive or affordable so that by the time the copycats get similar products to offer, they won't have your loyal user base.

it's all about building the right audience for your products and services, with the right audience you'll be on your way to making a lot of money. lack of patience also is among the reasons why people fail to make money online, they want result fast. people don't want to provide value in the first place before they start selling, there is the need to build trust with the audience first before selling them anything.

When I was learning to break this habit I started doing this.

When I received a promotion that made me drool about the latest FB tricks or the insider knowledge I needed, etc. I went back and reviewed the sales copy of products I had bought in the last few months.

In many cases, I discovered that, lo and behold, the thing I bought 3 months ago and hadn't used yet also promised the insider secrets and the one I bought 4 months ago I hadn't even opened had all the tricks to make me rich.

It was then I learned that it wasn't about learning because that had turned into an excuse for inaction. It was about me not doing what I already knew to do.

I still use that technique today and I save quite a bit of money as I avoid piling on to the secrets I haven't fully used yet.

Even more damaging is the short-term reward from searching or buying more information...it actually becomes THE reward that can fool you into thinking you are making progress or accomplishing something INSTEAD of the reward being taking an action and seeing a result (even if that result isn't what you hoped it would be it is STILL more valuable than planning, learning or buying more information because you learn first hand).

That said, when you lead and get into the habit of taking action you can then selectively go out and learn what you need to refine and improve your actions...buying and consuming should always be lead by action...not the other way around.

      Great point Jeff.

It's VERY easy to fool yourself into thinking that JUST because
you're busy, you're doing what matters.

I know I don't always focus on taking action on the most important stuff,
like many people... I get distracted, go scrolling on Facebook, etc...

I just think there's a TIPPING point, where you know enough to get
a specific result... so you take action and see that result through.

But the main point of the post was that we ALL make money the
      same way.

By offering something to others, that helps them. And adds value
      to their lives.

THAT is when the money comes in, when you get more people
      to see more offers.

So sure, there's a certain amount of info you need, and new marketers
will need a certain threshold of new info, and then experienced marketers
will need a totally different level/type of info, to keep making progress.

The key is that any business requires a profit to stay in business, and
that comes from making offers and selling... not by always looking for the
      next new thing!

    Hi Shawn,

While I agree with you buying products with that shiny syndrome is wrong, there is however a slight difference between this and buying products for reviewing and sharing with others.

You might be asking me -

Amuro, what do you mean by that?

Buying info products with the aim of getting rich FAST is wrong by common sense as you find ourselves spending without making any ROI.

But when it comes to buying products with the intent of providing reviews to prospects of exactly what they will be getting should they too invest, that is not.

Now when it comes to affiliate marketing these days, most people are put off by most sales offers be it emails or your typical sales video explaining why you should get the product without informing you what you will get from buying.

So before you recommend these to prospects, you did a review video or better still, interview the product creator himself through Skype and Pamela, Youtube or webinar videos.

And then recommending that product with relevant bonuses of yours or even product owner exclusively to your subscribers.

That brings me to one question.

How many of you guys ACTUALLY did this?

There is one guy by the name of Jeff Lenney who does this regularly.

To date he has done over 300 product reviews through his blog and still counting, if I am not wrong.

So while buying products with the sole aim of shiny object synodrome or get-rich-quick mentality, buying products with the intent to share with audience what they will actually get from investing themselves is not.

I am about to do my thread on this but since you bring up this subject, I decided to post here since I have other projects to busy with.

      The blind leading the blind?
Honestly, that's why I'm a big fan of selling offers and making
money online in a niche you DO have experience in.

See, people buy products that help them solve problems,
reach goals, fulfill desires, as well as to save time and money.

So, if you have personal experience in a niche where you can
help someone with your information, they will gladly pay you for
      that knowledge and insight.

Again, it's all about offering value, and you don't have to do that
      in the MMO niche.

As I tell clients or students, if you have a niche you're experienced
in or passionate about, you can often create info products that
will help others, and you can get paid as well.

Plus, since it's often hard, hard work to get a profitable business
up and running... if you sell something in a niche that you have
experience in, that passion could be the thing that keeps you going.

In my experience, fitness was something I knew I could help others with,
so in 2002, I put my personal training book/workout online.

7 years and close to $3 million dollars in sales later, I felt qualified
to help people make money online.

So for me, I started out in a niche that wasn't MMO... but used
my experience with online sales to then branch into MMO.

But yeah, good point. I'm not really a fan of trying to sell MMO
if you haven't gotten any results.

It's possible to do well, if you're someone who can digest a lot of
information and then you can put that into easier to read and follow
      instructions.

That is just one way to make money in the MMO niche, without
worrying about having all the qualifications of making a ton of money.

It's all about adding value to others, so if you can do that in ANY niche...
      that's all that matters.

Amuro, sure... anyone can enter just about any market.

But it doesn't mean they'll be successful.

The most successful people I know online are life-long students of the
          marketing game.

Because truth is, sales is the driving force behind ALL of it.

If you can get good at sales, then you can literally sell just about
          anything.

I know, because I started in fitness back in 2001.

Then, did so well with my fitness company, I used the cash
          to buy an ad agency.

Then, I was able to sell services to realtors, personal trainers, dentists,
          etc...

All of these niches, I've been successful in for one reason.

          I understood sales and marketing.

So, no matter what niche you're in, or thinking about going in...
I can say it's funner and you'll enjoy it more if you like the niche
and you feel you can write/talk about it with passion.

But when you're good at sales, you can literally go into almost
          any niche and do well.

The sales and marketing part of it is why most people fail at business,
          offline or online.

I've talked to literal rocket scientists over the years, one just last
month. He worked at NASA before they shut down, so he was now
trying to sell a book online.

This guy was smarter than I could ever imagine to be.

And yet, my income was about 10,000 times higher than his,
ONLY because I've been a student of the marketing game for
          over 17 years.

So yeah, you can enter almost any niche or market, and if you're
good at sales and marketing, can make it work.

But I believe in going into markets where you know some of the
inner info and details about it, so that your passion comes through
          in your marketing and communication.

          Good point though.

There is a concept I learn long ago, its called, "reinventing the wheel". It is greatly important to take actions asap, efforts on business validation and actual acquisition will 80% of the time be better spent than efforts in preparation and hypothising about possible outcomes and scenarios. This is what lean startup is all about. Validate now, talk to customers now.

    Nevertheless
If you try a new business domain from scratch, chances are, you might take years to learn what a person that has been working for years on that domain has learned.
You might be hell smart, but you are wasting time and money ( because time = money) in solving problems and inventing solutions that have already been solved, and invented.

Something that really can boost a productivity curve is a good infoproduct. Specially in digital marketing. trying to do SEO or PPC acquisition with no idea of their respective technical aspects or, knowing how to communicate your offer with an optimized landing page can really be a time waster.

Trying to build a business Not knowing how to improve your strategy and learn from your mistakes, is just plain dumb.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Learning from others can really be a profit booster.

Have to agree on something, no secrets exist anymore in this world.

    thank you for your contribution

  • Let's be honest....99% of people here are making money off newbies.More information...more software..better system, new method etc...

The biggest reason has nothing to do with that at all.

    It's all about common sense.

Did they test their market? Is there a demand..is there a profit? Can you manage and scale a business? Adapt, keep hungry?

All the things that work in the real world apply here.

When I see some some drug addict, can't even string a sentence together want to go into business...i suspect they might not succeed. .

Then you have the complete SH***ers' selling the gullible false dreams...Which is about 95% on here.

It's common sense with an edge.

Sounds good in theory, but in reality, it's nothing more than a platitude. It takes much more than that to achieve success. If you don't know that, it just means you haven't actually achieved any great success and don't know what it takes to do so.

This is a very basic view of success in anything from learning an instrument to earning money online and everything in between. No pie in the sky nonsense here. Indeed, the sentiment is shared from all of the great successes from Branson to Musk and Gates to Jobs. All of their books and interviews reflect the exact same simplified view. It seems there is a generation who think IM is something totally different and is a golden ticket to easy riches.

btw, I found success decades ago and continue to do so. Be careful with your assumptions young man.

That may be the funniest thing I've read in a long time, especially from someone giving warnings about making assumptions.

Oh - and 'success' is a relative term and one that I'm fairly certain we have different views on. Getting out of bed and getting fully dressed - is a major success, for some people. :-)

There's a huge difference between, "finding success," and working to achieve it.

Well, no, it is NOT that easy, it's not what that FORMULA implies at all. At least, to me personally. Said as is, it sound like it but one must think twice...

Likely, as in algebra and programming, a formula is composed of VARIABLES. The array of possibilities a variable can contain can be at infinitum.

Hence, the FORMULA is pretty much simple but still powerful, and yes comprise almost everything required for one to attain one's GOAL (instead of the word success, which is relative indeed thus we should consider success as in "success to attain an envisioned goal), when you consider how vast is the array of possibilities of EACH VARIABLES of this formula.

The only thing missing in this formula, imho, is KNOWLEDGE which should have precedence on that formula to apply with (once you have) PROPER knowledge.

It may not be what the formula implies, but it's usually what's implied by those who spout it - right up there with, "Follow your passion," "Never quit" and "Don't focus on the money and the money will flow to you." lol

As far as thinking, twice - I'd be shocked if I saw many of those same people fully think something through, even once.

I think one of the problem with these types of quotes are they imply to newbies that success is linear. Start down the path -- do this and this and this and -- WHAM you're going to have guaranteed success (whatever that means to you).

Then they hit the first major hurdle and think, "Everyone lied to me. I did everything right and I'm not rich or beautiful or living on a private island. What a bunch of scammers!"

Those of us who have been around awhile, including that kiddo OptedIn, know that it's more like a roller coaster ride at best, or a walk in a dark, scary forest on a bad day.

You educate yourself, you take action. Then you see what worked and what didn't. You adjust. When you find a specific task you need to learn more about -- you learn it. But you don't chase down every side road that comes along or you'll go in circles forever.

You don't expect one product or one person to show you exactly what to do to start and maintain a business in a changing world. If you need constant direction -- get a job.

Good post, Shawn. It is easy, especially for compulsive readers like myself, to stay busy learning and not move on to action. A great reminder.

Because you can't help people with "personal" responsibility. That's 100% up to them. They either take responsibility for their life or they don't. People who choose to blame others for their problems are not going to get far in life.

Of course you can. There are people that are supposed to spend a major portion of their lives teaching people precisely how to do that. they're called, PARENTS!!!

I raised my son to always take responsibility for everything that takes place in his life, good or bad and to NEVER blame anyone else for anything. It has worked for me, so why wouldn't I pass that on?

There are apparently many people, that never had the benefit of thoughtful, competent parenting. I can help those people, regardless of their current age. It's called, 'life coaching' and I charge $95 per hour.

              PM me for details.

I've made a LOT more money by working smarter, as opposed to harder.

A few key things I've learned?

Often times, the most important things in your business can be done in
an hour or two each day.

BUT... and I'm guilty of this, if you allow yourself, say 6 to 8 hours a day
online, sitting at the computer, you'll miraculously FILL that entire time,
even though you COULD have been done the most important stuff much
          sooner.

I have to remind myself to stay on point and on task, focusing on JUST
those things that matter and move me closer to my goals, or else I can
fill my day up with busy, non-productive stuff online.

Many of us online marketers and entrepreneurs kid ourselves into
thinking that just because we're busy, that we're being productive.

Nope... I have to catch myself all the time, focusing on JUST the
productive "to do" activities that matter. If not... I can soon just
          be scrolling mindlessly.

The biggest help for me, years ago, was doing the Point A
to Point B exercise I wrote about on the forum last week.

With your Point B firmly in mind, you only take the actions/steps
in your business that move you closer to Point B.

Otherwise, if you don't have specifics as to what moves you
closer, you could be spending time on all sorts of stuff that
won't matter in the long run.

      I agree with Netman.

You do have to learn SOME stuff... unless you're already passionate
and interested in something that others will pay you to learn too.

To me, that's the best way to get started online.

It's NOT the MMO/biz opp niche if you've never made
      money online.

Instead, just start offering something for sale that you know,
are passionate or interested in, and that you can help others with.

One of the things I'll have coaching clients do is learn ONE valuable
skill and then offer that service for sale.

One that always comes to mind is lead generation for service
      providers.

Let's face it, many service providers suck at marketing, so
if you're able to get really good at Facebook ads, and you can
target people who could use a service provider... then you can
      do VERY well with that.

It all starts and ends with value and adding value to others.

Think of what you can offer others, in the way of help or value,
and then try to leverage that online, as your business.

I promise, master one skill that's in demand and you can
      write your own paycheck.

    EXACTLY! Preach, brother.

Most people I see on this forum are doing the same old thing.

    Me on the other hand?

    My goal is simple

    1) Get my product in front of AS MANY PEOPLE IN MY TARGET MARKET as POSSIBLE (via Marketing Automation with bots on social media networks, platforms, soon to be paid traffic, etc)

    2) Present my OFFER to all of them

    3) Close a % of them

    SIMPLE-AS-THAT.

Success in business comes down to putting your offer in front of as many target prospects as possible.

    SIMPLE AS THAT.

It reminds me of the PUA industry where billions are made from guys when it comes to approaching women. When at the end of the day, the simple concept required is the SAME: Present yourself in front of as many of (your type) of women as possible and spit your game.

SAME thing for business: Present your product in front of as many target prospects as possible and spit your offer.

    PREACH! Amen.

Everything in your post is more of, "The same old thing." You state it as if you have come up with some secret sauce that know one else is aware of. Everything you posted are the basic tenets of marketing and sales.

Nothing new, offered. Even the arrogance and self-righteousness with which it is presented is old hat. lol

Move, along. Nothing to see, here!

I worked in Fitness for many years, helping people take action toward healthier eating and fitness. I see a similarity. I think the way to think about it is the RIGHT ratio of Information vs. Action. If it's all information and no Action = Nothing Happens. If it's all Action and no Info = unnecessary mistakes.
    • Information is like Food (for the right action).
    • Action is movement (for the right outcome).
I think once a "testable" path of action is discovered, it's important to stop learning and start DOING, while OBSERVING the feedback to course correct. To add a little mystic element to it ... we could say a little Yang (Action), and a little Yin (learning).

I imagine InfoBesity is just as deadly as Obesity... we all have a few extra pounds of "Information" to burn off with some tangible activity... some more than others... and some are paralized with extreme Infobesity.

But we're all here to be Financial Fit with sales and Income from online activity... so let's get back to work!

So please, remember that you don't need another info-product.

You need something valuable that you can offer others, in exchange
    for money.

Do more of that, and you'll finally see the results you want online.
You need something of value that a person feels is worth more than the amount of money you're charging for it, much more. If you create that feeling then you'll really have an easier time selling. When I go to a place like a dollar store and I see those $1 packs of cookies (my favorite is the iced oatmeal) I purchase them not because I simply like them, but because I feel like they should be at least 50 percent higher in price than what they are. The dollar I'm exchanging for the cookies has less value to me than the cookies I'm purchasing in this case. This needs to be the feeling you create with customers with virtually anything you sell, assuming what you're selling is something they want in the first place.

I totally agree. Information overload is the single biggest reason people are not succeeding online. Too much information causes people to feel overwhelmed and not take action. So less information and more action is needed for any result to be achieved online

It's so true most people building a business online don't need more information, they need to stop seeking and start giving.

There are so many distractions online and so many offers made every day, especially when you are looking for information on how to build a business online. It is so easy to fall into the trap that you need something else.

Online business can be relatively simple. The reasons people fail are plentiful but most seek more information because they don't believe it can be so simple to succeed. This means they are trying to make it complexed and add in more than the basics what they need.

People set themselves up to fail because of this. Overspending, overcomplicating and most of the time stressing themselves too much over what they do and don't need. It just ends up in frustration and failure.

    Boom.

    Life in a nutshell.

It's important to note that all of us arrive at this point through different roads.

The other day I googled "how to start an online business from scratch."

Not because I was lost but because I was wondering if there was new information out there.

    I didn't find anything.

Instead, it's more or less the same.

Some good advice, some bad advice, some in between.

My personal system has no magic bullet..

Test a hypothesis on something -> Create something -> use paid advertising to get initial sales (determine if it's worth it) -> optimize (pricing, value prop, funnel, etc etc) -> add in sustainable traffic (SEO, though this is arguably unsustainable) -> optimize - > use paid and sustainable traffic until neither are profitable.

Once you get a certain amount of knowledge you have to apply what you've learned, test it, tweak it, and try it again. It can be easy to fall into the dreaded "shiny object syndrome" trap. Learn the basics and start taking action. Get some failures under your belt so you can learn more and start succeeding.

I've seen a common trend in that people have no real capital to invest and are looking for shortcuts, cheap/free alternatives and it becomes a destructive cycle towards the end goal.

I've always said to clients, students, friends and associates that if you don't properly plan out cost and be prepared to spend it, then you have no business going into business in the first place.

It takes money to make money. Just my 2c.

I think it also has to do a bit with fear. Fear stops action. If you really want this you have to be able to pivot and quickly take action when you see an opportunity or recognize a mistake.

    Fear just hinders success.

Find ways to reduce and manage your fear and you'll be a much more successful entrepreneur.

Remember, fear has to do with your perspective.

A simple tip to manage fear is to do confidence-building exercises.

For me, I like to take a few moments at night to think of the decisions I made that day that had a successful outcome.

Thinking each day about the decisions that you made that benefited you, others, or your business.
You'll notice that you quickly build confidence.

Okay, I can't argue about good parenting. Having raised two responsible adults who I'm very proud of

I guess I was referring to the context of this forum and people who whine a lot.

But I'm happy to stand corrected. If they see what they're lacking and are willing to pay for coaching to improve their outlook and habits then good for them. Goodness knows the world needs more responsible people.

If they see what they're lacking
Most people are oblivious to their own business inadequacies and personal shortcomings. Even when they are aware, they'll deny their existence and deflect.
