I am a beginner in seo and one of my friend said that lengthy domain name is bad for seo,so while planning a branding of new business he said we must suggest a 5-7 character length for their domain.But when i searched on this web,am still get confused about this,there is two opinion is there,so please help me to find out the actual answer for this.

    How long is long and how short is short?

    My advice is to just start first and make adjustment along the way.

    Do not overthink too much.

    The long domain name does not make any problem with search engine optimization. But the domain name should be so easy to remember. Visitors like short names.

    Length of the domain name is not a problem if here includes enough information. But better to use domain name which actually people can remember easily.

      Absolutely correct. The OP must have understand with this short & sweet note.

      Some days back I was reading an article about how to make domain name more understandable or remember-able & I end up with a common info that domain should be short & descriptive (as many of users said above) and TLDs extensions should be most common & match with your location/country. So that people can remember your domain to a long time.

    The length of the domain name and even what words are in the domain name do not affect where the pages on a site will rank. The only important thing to keep in mind is to create a domain name that people can remember. It also really helps if it is a .com TLD (people remember all websites as .com even when they are not).

    Oh, and please try to come up with more descriptive titles when you start a thread. A whole lot of people are going to skip over one that simply says "I am a beginner".

    Well, I bit agree with your friend that domain name is not bad for SEO but its a wrong approach. Short domain name is much good as its easy to remember and try to avoid the special characters to be used in domain name well it gets a bit difficult in typing too.

    To begin with, in all honesty, the length of your domain name does not really matter to Google. It makes an impact at the end user's end. A person visiting your page needs to know and probably remember your domain name so that he can return soon. This won't happen if your website has a long name. Nobody will to read it to its extent, let alone remembering it for future. So, you need to make it short and to the point.
    As far as SEO is concerned, you need to make sure you have your main keywords pertaining to your niche, in there. As this increases the relevancy in Google's eyes.

    According to me you can use upto 15 character is good but try to keep it below then 9 characters and make sure that the name is able to recall. Some great examples are roposo, twitter, facebook and some other popular brands. Hope I helped.

    no frnd it is wrong taking lengthy domain is good for seo point of view. current days we have so much competition on domains so taking length and correct keywords improve seo ranking in search engine. before starting your work take a better search on your topic is mandatory.

      My two cents.

      Google doesn't care and can't tell whether a domain is relevant or not or hard to spell or not.

      What is the domain ar.com relevant to? Is it spelled right? Or Ebay.com? What does that even mean? Or what in the heck is a Google or a Yahoo? And if I spell it Gooogle is that spelled wrong? Where were these listed in any dictionary before becoming domain names?

    Choosing a domain name is just like choosing your brand name. If you want people to remember it easily so they won't have difficulties with misspelling it etc., then make it short and easy to remember. You may also add a keyword you are ranking for in your domain name, but you may face difficulties ranking your homepage for a branded keyword if the competition is tough.

    Make sure your domain name has only one meaning (the one you intended).
