I'm considering buying an email list eventually

Right now I'm working on email copy-writing.

And at I'm going to think about creating a product of my own, in the near future.

I also have some friends who I've worked a little bit here with their own product advertisements, and I might mention buying a list to them.

I've studied copy-writing for a while, but I'm not that familiar with the list trading business. I know it's really easy to lose your money fast especially if you're not careful about who you buy lists from. Or if you're not careful about the particular statistics of a given list.

I'm still not sure I wanna get into it just yet. But I'd like to start learning something about it. I might just stick with non-paid advertising for a while.

But as I'm thinking about it, what are some of the more well known and reliable or at least reliable places to shop for lists online?

Udimi is a popular place for buying lists. However, it is much better to build your own list of subscrbers who have specifically opted in to YOUR service.

IMO, a much much much better approach than "buying an email list eventually" is to begin today to build your own email list in a niche where you have a competitive advantage.

In my experience, most of the lists you buy on eBay and elsewhere are worthless; or even worse, they can put you and your reputation at risk.

Why? Simply because people selling these lists do so to make a quick buck without concern for the privacy of the people on the list or the interests of the list buyer. Many of these lists are simply collections of random scraped names off the Internet and rarely do they contain addresses of subscribers that have opted in to anything.

Often these lists are very cold, sometimes being copied from other email address lists selling online. So as the buyer, you end up with a list of stale, old, hammered and dubious origin addresses generally good for nothing. I have heard of instances where deliverability to entire lists is less than 10% and conversions have been 0.

With legitimate list "sellers," they usually only rent you their list of subscribers for a one time mailing and they send out your message - you don't "buy" their list to keep it yourself for continued mailings.

There are legitimate list brokers like Nextmark that are worth considering ... however ... you can still lose your shirt on such a service if you don't understand what you're doing, don't know how to properly target your offer, don't write compelling sales letters, or have an offer that converts well. It's a very risky approach for a newbie and sometimes even for veterans of IM.

That's why I believe you are miles ahead to grow your own list.

I know the dream of having a large list of your own immediately with the push of a buy button is very tempting. Don't give in to the urge. This is one shortcut to a quick subscriber list that almost always turns into a complete waste of time and money.

Do you want a real business? If so, build it yourself with an audience that actually wants to hear from you.

I've been buying / monetizing email data for almost 18 years. However, I get fresh data that is targeted to specific PPL (pay per lead) offers. I'm basically just converting inexpensive leads to real-time leads that are then worth significantly more. Also, it is far easier to get someone to just fill out a form than it is to get them to make a purchase.

If you're talking about the MMO niche and trying to sell something. You will probably be better off building your own list unless you can find the right targeted data, as much of what you may find may be too general. That way you can specifically target and build subscribers that are interested in what you are offering and would be more likely to purchase.

Not that it's not possible to make buying data work for you. If you go that route, I would just purchase a small sample and test it first. If you can get an ROI, then buy more.

Definitely build your own list with emails / contact information that are really working.

In my experience, some of the contact information from the lists you buy are either old email addresses which they don't access anymore or they don't exist at all.

DIABLO is right, you can always try purchasing a small sample and if it does work, buy some more.

This is an interesting post as I have never wanted to buy a list. My reasons is that I feel a "store bought" list isn't targeted enough to justify the price of it. One example, I feel when you create value, and people support that value (such as creating youtube videos etc), people think similar to your particular mindset. When you get people to think similar, they will follow and naturally opt in to your email list that you created organically. What you need is then a platform that you can use for that, I use builderall to build my funnels, and also websites. It pays for itself now over and over again as I use it for online marketing, but also creating websites for local companies. There are several platforms out there and lots that are great. Think of also your business costs ROI, for everything. Going the easy route by buying a list may not always be the best direction to go.

I think you are on the right direction, a list is very very important. Just keep in mind that taking the time grinding it out to build your list organically, can make it much more enjoyable when your conversions are higher than buying a random list that you "Hope" will bring you sales. Food for thought

This is vey true, but it is important to realize, that for some people, in certain situations, it can be the perfect solution. I've bought lists for decades, both for myself and my clients and could never have built a business for myself, nor helped them build theirs, without employing them.

There are no absolutes in life or business. Every situation and solution will be different. If you don't keep an open mind, especially to things that you're simply not familiar with, you are only lessening your chances for success or increasing the amount of time it will take you to achieve it.

absolutely Always have to keep an open mind. That's why I say "May not always be the best way to go". thats why you want to try different things that may or may not work. That mantra to "test test test" is a very true statement. Find out what works best for your situation and wreak the benefits from it

Going out and just purchase a list is something you have to look deep into. 1 How was the list built
2 what is the market for the list. 3 how old is the list. Has this list been used 400 times. Now you can purchase new lists but you are looking at a great expense I decided to use that money in advertising and build my own list. you can ask. Igor Kheifets Hope it helps.

Knowing how to buy a list and whom to buy it from is just one more knowledge point for being a well-versed Internet marketer. Yes, a good list is expensive, but if it fits your needs, it's hard to make a better investment.

I have never built a list in my entire online career and you couldn't pay me to do so. Time is money. I can always make more money, but whatever time I spend beating my head against the wall trying to build a list, that time is gone forever.

Different strokes, right? There's no one way to do something. What's wrong for one person, is perfectly fine for someone, else.

      Cheers.

In my opinion you should begin to build your OWN list because buying a list is very risky and shady in my opinion. The people on the list you are buying opted in to receive information from a different person and by writing in your own style to the list you can lose all your subscribers in an instance.

You should start to build your own audience and your main focus should be to provide value. Real VALUE. By doing so you will generate goodwill with your audience and this creates trust. Basically the money is not in how big the list is, the money is in the relationship you have with your list.

If you are genuinely helping people by providing them the best information you can, your audience will trust you and that opens the door of selling your products or affiliate products that further HELP your audience to achieve whatever they want to achieve.

As a conclusion, with a small list of people that trust you and value your advice, you'll be rich.

The problem is, your opinion is based on a total lack of knowledge on the subject.

You obviously have no idea about how lists are compiled, rendering everything you state, here - totally false.

Right. We see a lot of that and of course, this is nothing that you can substantiate.

Search "safelist mailers" on Google and try your email marketing strategy on these lists. It will cost you zero or next to nothing. And then decide whether you want to go further with email marketing.

The first thing that comes to my mind is why would anyone want to sell a list of "buyers". I do not forsee anyone selling an active list that has a healthy list of buyers.Maybe my opinion is wrong .
Do some resesrch before you buy into anything to minmize ,offset against the risk of loss.

What list brokers sell are lists of individuals that have expressed an interset in and/or agreed to receive 3rd party marketing emails in various niches, based wholly on the individual list you request. There are thousands of lists, segmented in various ways.

Based upon the way you market to the list, it's your goal to attempt to convert them to "buyers."

Another ill-informed post based upon an Internet marketing myth and a total misunderstanding of the full scope of the discussion at hand.
