shareasale HTTP links not tracking?

I received the below email from a global company that is a household name and has an affiliate program on shareasale that I am a part of.

Their assertions concern me. What do you think?

I did some testing, but it's a long story, and I don't know what it all means. Basically there are multiple redirects, there's HTTP or HTTPS in certain situations, sometimes forwarding to an HTTPS site and sometimes not, so I don't know.

I won't bother asking Shareasale. The only possible response to that question is that their tracking system has no current issues and is extremely accurate.

Email today:

I wanted to reach out regarding ShareASale tracking links for the xxxxxxxx affiliate program. The team has discovered that to ensure the most accurate tracking across internal and external reporting platforms, ShareASale affiliate links should include the secure HTTPS protocol - versus HTTP. For example: https://www.xxxxxxxxxx.com.

Unfortunately, this was not the default setting in ShareASale. While we know this is a manual effort we highly recommend that you check the tracking links that you are using and update all necessary links to be secured (HTTPS:// protocol) as soon as possible.

We ask this of you to ensure that tracking across all internal and external reporting platforms show no discrepancies or loss of tracking. It has been discovered by the xxxxxxxx team that unsecured affiliate links could potentially not track correctly in xxxxxxx's internal reporting platform when the affiliate link has to redirect to xxxxxx's secured website. We want to ensure we have the most accurate data available to ensure you receive all earnings for your referred transactions in ShareASale!

If you have any questions about the process, please let us know. Additionally, while we know this may take some time to update - please send confirmation to xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxx.com once links have updated.

Thanks and Happy Promoting!

This likely has to do with the new version of google chrome marking non-https sites as insecure. To me, it sounds like all they are saying is to ensure that you use https for your links and all hops you have control over.

Simply edit all of your affiliate links like the email directs you to do, i.e. change http to https. If your websites are Wordpress and you are using the Gutenberg editor and the https links were created with Gutenberg then you may have a problem because Gutenberg has known issues with https or outbound SSL links.

The Shareasale bookmarklet is still creating HTTP links for all license plate links (shortened links). It's weird that Shareasale hasn't fixed such a simple issue if it's really an issue.

As long as you manually updated the links and sent confirmation you should be okay according to them. Also, they said it may take time, not sure if that means Shareasale may take time or you may take time, but never the less it would not hurt to contact Shareasale. Even if you get a response from them as you think you will receive at least you did your due diligence.
