Merchant/Shopping Cart Site? Can Wordpress or XSitePro2 do this?

If I wanted to design a merchant type site, with products that someone is selling (such as tools, jewelry, clothing, etc) what would be the best format to use? Is there a plug in that will do this is Wordpress? Would XSitePro2 be good to use? I have used Wordpress but haven't bought XSitePro2. I'm thinking of purchasing XSitePro2 if it has this capability. I'd like to be able to design a site where I can have something like a page with the items for sale (there are about 100 items) and a shopping cart added for users to shop right from the site.

Thanks in advance!

Yes there are some decent ecommerce plugins for wordpress.

I really am a big fan of XsitePro (especially for newbies), but I would not say it's an ideal ecommerce platform. You would either need to add all the products and structure them manually, or else integrate some additional ecommerce scripting into your XSite site.

A better option would probably be to use an existing ecommerce platform, or try a Wordpress plugin if it looks like it will meet your needs.

You may want to take a look at ecwid.com. It seems like a great way to add shopping cart functionality to any site including wordpress and it is free.

Here is the link to my site that I am building:

    Autographs enver Broncos Autographs

That is the main page built with ecwid.

You can also check out any of my other pages and you will see that I added the Add to Cart functionality within a wordpress post.

I just ran across a plugin this evening that may help you out if you use wordpress. I don't think I can post links yet so do a search "Wordpress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart Plugin" and you will find it.

I haven't had time to even look at it yet so I can't vouch for it in any way but it looks interesting.

Thanks for your replies. I think I may try ecwid. I'm not sure if the Wordpress plug in has built in security features or not. And thank you for letting me know about XSitePro not having that feature. It saved me some cash in the short term, although I am sure in the future I'll invest in that.

I've set up a site for a client on Wordpress and have also installed Zen Cart in another directory. So they're separate but "together" if you know what I mean!?

Mind you, it's not for the faint-hearted and was a huge job to implement but it looks pretty good and my client is thrilled with it! (Phew!).

I've purchased and currently setting up a WordPress eCommerce site using www.ShopperPress.com software.

I looked a lots of different free and paid for options including Joomla and have found this to be the easier option for me.
