Imagine discovering the sport of basketball today. You dig it, invest $100 in a pair of snazzy sneakers, and practice for 2 weeks. After the 2 week stretch you are frustrated that no front office of an NBA team called you with a contract. You are even more missed that no European team front office made you an offer yet; yep, the low level squads are not interested.

Now imagine discovering internet marketing today. You invest a few hundred bucks in your business, practice for 2 weeks, and become frustrated that you have yet to make a dime yet.

You only have 2 weeks of practice guys. You have no skills yet. None. Maybe you can manipulate some money out of folks with fear, or with a big investment, but to genuinely see money flowing in regularly, it takes 2 years or more of practice, not 2 weeks.

Pro basketball players - NBA or even Europe, or anywhere internationally - develop tremendous skills after years of practice. Sometimes, a decade or more.

Ditto for professional internet marketers. The house hold names doing it right spend a LONG time practicing, and folks on the come up, just as long in some cases. Minimum, years.

Be patient guys. Move the time frame from 2 weeks to 1 or 2 years. Do it right to create lasting success, and something meaningful for folks to enjoy.

Patience is the name of the game. Great analogy, btw. I have been there a long time ago where I expected something out of nothing but learned patience.

I remember teaching my brother article marketing way back when Ezine Articles got all kinds of Google love. He literally wrote two articles and didn't keep going because he didn't make any money. Yet, I have over 1,000 articles and was making money. How he couldn't see it, I will never know.

Ryan is completely right. You have to be patient and put in the work. Nobody is really an overnight success story. We see them that way from the outside, but they have a story of failures and lessons learned. Patience will lead you to where you want to go.

I will also add, choose a plan and stick to it. Don't waiver, don't make any changes and don't stop until you've worked it for at least 30 days. Then, simply make tweaks and move forward as you see some success here and there and you start learning.

Anyone who has to wait years to start making money in Internet marketing needs to find a new line of work. While you may not get rich, overnight, there are many niches, products and services where you can start making money and scaling that process from your very first day.

Patience is a virtue, only if you have time to waste.

Most, again I said Most, people trying to make money online will not make a dime for weeks or even months, let alone their first day.

Yes, for you, you may be able to make money overnight or you may have made money right off the bat, but that's not the norm.

Telling beginners they should or even might make money fast is a huge mistake as they will quit if they don't make anything in a couple of days or weeks. It's setting people up for failure, not for success.

IMHO, it's bad business to tell people they should be able to make money fast online.

Depends on want they want to do. Blogging? No. Logo design? Yes! Affiliate marketing? No. Selling T-shirts? Yes! Selling on eBay? Yes! Selling on Craig's list? Yes! Doing SSL upgrades? Yes! The list goes on.

That's true, but there's no LAW that says you can't make money from day one and many people do.

You would do very well to read the body of my posts over the years. There is no one on this forum that spreads less bullshit about making money overnight. I'm oftentimes regarded as a Donny Downer as I am the first person to rain on someone's parade, when they are being unrealistic regarding their expectations of income.

IMHO, it's bad business to tell people they should be able to make money fast online.
"Fast," is a relative term. Anyone can make money on their first day. Many here, have. I am not one of them but that was not my goal. To tell people that they can't begin to make money from day one is simply not true. Telling them they will get rich, overnight, is downright malicious. Anyone who believes that, will get exactly what they deserve. More than likely - nothing.

Agreed. 1000 ways to skin a cat. There are many niches to earn with. Who wants to wait 10 years for success. Any given day, anything can happen. Beginners have to stop listening or following these so called gurus. And start doing stuff that takes them closer to their goals.

I completely agree with Ryan. I started with Android apps way back in 2013 when market was new and very few competitors. Today I am at a comfortable level where I am making passive income daily as I have well over a thousand apps in different accounts each making money while I invest my time, energy and resources into other things these days.

There were days when I hardly made a few cents and I contemplated going back to my regular job or try other methods to make money online but I stuck with apps and now make good money daily.

    Very well said.

This is something everyone needs to read. I've seen a huge spike recently in people with unrealistic expectations that expect to find success and "make it" on their first project with minimal effort and minimal time.

To add to this point, many people enter Internet Marketing without ANY previous business experience - so not only is this the first entry into online marketing, it is the first entry into the land of running a business period!

Which means, little or no experience understanding markets, creating/finding/launching products, formulating lead-gen systems, hiring employees/contractors, operational aspects of a business, understanding margin & ROI, customer support, etc...

For new people, they must learn the basics of business as well as internet marketing (unless they are taking a role of employee/contractor of course...)
