Should I Ping a URL Link

Hello, is it important and mandatory to PING a url link so that google and search engine can find it.

Consider the following cases:

1- If I have a new forum post that contain a backlink

2- I posted an update to an old forum post and I include url in the update.

Thanks indeed

No, it is not important, mandatory or even necessary. In fact, we've never done it. You can submit new URLs directly to Google or even just posting them on social networks will get them immediately noticed by search engines.

Or ... you can just wait for the search engines to crawl the site and find them. If the site constantly has new content, search engines will crawl the site more often. If it is a rarely updated site, they might only crawl it once per month.

Of course, I'm not sure why it even matters. If you think that Google is going to rank your site better because there is a link in a forum to it, you better come up with a much better SEO strategy. Even if it is one of the few remaining forums that don't have nofollow links, Google is going to ignore the link because they know that website owners can place them, themselves; therefore, it is not an earned link and holds no value.

Big thanks to all answers - and bigger thanks to this answer mainly. I liked it. Yes I am now really looking for better SEO ways to improve my content on Google and other SEs.

    Hi Amin,

Do not focus on Pinging. Focus on creating helpful content and befriending top bloggers in your niche. Create and connect persistently to build a thriving forum.

The quality of the link is what matters the most. Why not link out to the post ?

Even when you do ping it and send thee site owner a signal you aren't guaranteed to get it back. Why don't you focus on link earning instead.
