Do You Need Permission To Embed?
So, I've started curating several different types of media on my new website. I am mostly using YouTube videos via the embed feature.
Now, I've searched through Google and have found conflicting opinions. I'm not sure if embedding can be considered copyright. Now, apparently Twitter embeds are considered copyright infringement.
Yes, according to the YouTube TOS, channel owners basically give permission to embed by simply enabling the embed feature.
I've also been on a few 'lawyer' websites and they obviously say that anything someone creates in copyright and you should get permission.
I've started asking channel owners for permission and about 95% are ok with embedding (yes...a few have said they prefer that commercial sites not embed their videos). The only problem with this method is that it's time consuming and it puts me at a bit of a disadvantage to other publishers who embed whatever they want.
Any thoughts?
