What I learned on Black Friday about IM

I've been into this IM stuff for a few years now...only been serious with if for about the last 2 years or so though.

I have a video course that I sell from my website, which is pretty much my main monetization. I sell the course for $59, and I make about 20 or so sales per month on average. I don't use paid traffic (I do plan on starting soon though)...most of my traffic comes from YouTube.

I have a mailing list of about 850 people right now...600 of which haven't yet bought from me, and the rest are those who have bought my course. Although they say "the money is in the list", I honestly can't say that I ever truly understood that (until Black friday). I have an autosponder sequence set up which sends out a blog post every 2 weeks, and simply has a link to my course at the bottom of each email. This is just so people remember me. I think a very small percentage of my sales comes from this email sequence though.

Anyway, I decided to do a black friday sale that lasted 2 days. So I sent an email out to the 600 people on my list that haven't yet bought from me letting them know that I would be doing a 50% off sale for 2 days. I sent one email broadcast letting them know that I would tell them when the sale started. I then sent a second email out after the sale was in effect. I didn't expect much, but here's what happened:

1.) Within 1 hour of starting the sale/sending out the 2nd email which let them know that the sale started I made 8 sales!

2.) I made a total of 26 sales in the 2 days that I offered the deal!

I was shocked! I made just over $600 in one day, which is the most I've ever made with this online stuff.

I learned that the money really is in the list. I also learned that people like deals too!

I figured I'd share this little success with you all!

Amazing. Yes it's true money is in the list I have a few friends who earned over $5k just by promoting hosting and themes to their email list. This is the prime time to sell products to your list rest of the year they provide them value and build trust.

I hope you have your list segmented. Nothing people hate more than getting a 50% off offer, days or weeks after paying full price. Those mails should only go out to folks that have not bought your product.

I believe that list segmenting is one of the most overlooked aspects of IM and I don't even have a list. This is just an observation on what I experience as a consumer. I buy a product and am then pounded with sales emails for weeks on end. I loathe that. Yes, many are from affiliate offers, but not all. lol

Good job, though, but I don't know why you sound so surprised. At 50% off, many people will buy stuff their not even positive they need, because they hate passing up such a great deal. The science of selling is built on the basics of human nature. This is why creating a sense of urgency (although a phony ploy in most instances), is such a strong motivator, also.

    Cheers.

...and just think how many sales you might have had with a few good affiliates mailing to THEIR lists rather than being limited to only your 600 prospects.

You have done this the way any internet marketer should do in the first please and now I am referring on focusing only on one task at a time. You accomplished your success because you have envisioned that and it became a reality.

Good job! Of course, you may have also learned that your price was too high to begin with.

If nothing else, instead of waiting until Black Friday, you might try sending out one or two automatic emails to people who don't buy, offering them a limited time deal to sign up when they don't initially buy. Seems better than a couple blog posts they probably don't want with the same old price.

Absolute truth, money is in the list, but don't neglect taking care of them, and don't forget to keep growing that list!

    Great job.

Having the list is just the starting point. You also need to stay in touch frequently, provide value and build up the like, know and trust factor.

And then you monetize your list.

I've also learned in over 10 years of doing this that mailing your list 4-5 times per week, minimum, pays off the best. That's assuming your emails provide value and help people solve their problems.

    Congrats! This is really encouraging.

I am in the process of reviving my email list, and growing it
    bigger.

Can't wait to find out how well it works.

And of course, now with the pre-Christmas time, there's lots
of opportunity to both provide value and offer special deals.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hey guys sorry for the late reply. It is a music theory course. I'm going to be making some serious changes to my whole list strategy...namely, focusing on building it and having a heavily marketing-based email sequence.

This lesson definitely taught me a lot!

This is really inspiring. You never know something until you do it yourself and you've come to discover that the money is truly in the list if you learn how to use that list effectively.

    Well done my fellow warrior!

  • Well done! I hope your course has some upsells built into it, so you can make additional back end sales to your list.

In my opinion, there's no point in driving traffic to an offer, just make a one time sale. You should create some form of recurring income into your online sales funnel. That way when you decide to offer a 50% discount on your front end products, you will still generate sustainable recurring monthly income, somewhere on the back end of your sales funnel.

Some people avoid doing this because they think it will devalue their brand or the quality of the product they are offering.
