Website traffic in most of my ecommerce sites tends to ramp up significantly from October right through to to the 20th of December mirroring or validating what Dave Hermansen mentioned.

Transactions tend to peak towards the end of November and because we mostly ship within Australia there is a decline as some of our more remote locations cannot be reached easily via courier as you get closer to Christmas.

Web traffic generally doesn't' drop but the traffic switches to more urgent delivery browsing and the loss of remote customers switches to an upswing with more local customers seeking solutions that can be delivered within their timeframe.

With a large portion of my business in the B2B space there is always a drop in corporate spending from the end of November as in Australia the summer holidays for schools run from early December through to late January.

A lot of my corporate customers and their staff also have kids so they often book extended leave around this time of year.

Since 2009 January for us has outperformed December both from retail offline and from an online perspective but that is largely due to the products we are selling and the rapid increase as businesses discover they need to restock upon returning to work in January.

Well I can't speak for other niches, but I can tell you that people don't seem very interested in graphic design-related subjects during the holidays.
