    Yes, it does.
If your website deals in US or European markets then chances are that your traffic will go down considerably.
As during this period or any other festivals people don't use google and other social media for any research so traffic is low during this period.

      Hi ,
Websites get traffic from a variety of sources. These include organic search engine results, direct traffic from URL searches, paid traffic from ads like Google Adwords, referral links from other blogs, or traffic from social media. You can find out where you're losing traffic on your Google Analytics account by going to Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium.
If you are loosing only organic traffic.
Check if your rankings has been dropped or stable at that time. Still if everything is fine, reason would be holidays season.
      Hope this helped you.
      Thanks

Yes, it is absolutely true that website traffic drops down in holidays 'coz not much people use social media and search engines that often.
In order to prevent that you should get your viewers and visitors engaged with your content.
And, I think you should also use e-mail marketing of more traffic.

Christmas items, even songs get a bump UP in traffic this time of the year. So, it depends on what the site is about, doesn't it?

Some savvy marketers have Holiday promotions, and offer rewards and Seasonal gifts to avoid the drop. Blanket statements about drops in traffic and use are not helpful, when some sites do most of their business in a short period of time, oft, between Thanksgiving in USA to Christmas.

An example would be like Hickory Farms, a company which did 80% of it's business in those six weeks.

PS. Perhaps Internet traffic drops in some areas, but WEBSITE TRAFFIC, well, that is all about the website.

Seasonal Organic Traffic depends on the business type: B2B, B2C.

B2B, Business to Business. Spend less time online in November and December.
Note: Refers to commerce between two or more businesses.

B2C, Business to Consumer. Spend more time online as early as two months before seasonal events.
Note: Refers to commerce between businesses and consumers.

Seasonal SEO wise, Christmas SEO is typically done one to two months before the event. Example: More Christmas buying is done on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Tracking traffic can be misleading to an Internet Marketer. When tracking traffic on the day of the seasonal event vs. tracking traffic one to two months out from the seasonal event the results will differ.

The bottom line is to do your Seasonal Organic SEO as much as two months before the event depending on the niche event.

I would hesitate saying it drops..
It depends on the niche. I find many sites for online shopping or products people are buying for either Christmas or the Holidays have an increase, but many others have a decrease. It all depends on the niche.

Yes we have seen a severe drop in traffic during december and New year as the are holidays and people are busy in shopping and for the festival preparation. So if you are are a service website then you can see these change and the traffic for E-commerce increases.

Almost across the board, our eCommerce websites experience a huge INCREASE in traffic from late November through about December 20th. Then, it almost completely dies the rest of the month through about January 5th. Then, things go back to normal.

Our informational websites and training course see a decline in traffic from late November through early January, however.

Seasonal business*is a term that refers to the fluctuations inbusiness*that correspond to changes in*season. ... Many retailbusinesses*have a strongseasonal*component and see the majority of their profits generated in one or two seasons of the year, the year-end or Christmas*seasonbeing a typically busy period. It all depends on the industry that you are in and your advertising strategy in my opion.

Yes, holiday season affects website traffic. But it all depends on your business type. If you are an online shopping store which are selling clothes, shoes, electronic items, mobile and other items then your website traffic will sure increase. As per my experience most of the time online shopping websites get more traffic in holiday seasons.

Yes and no. Yes if you believe it drops and no if you do not Many people still visit sites, including the billions of people who do not actively celebrate holidays around that time. I am in Oman now. Will be here thru February. Not too much going on around Christmas in a Muslim nation.

May be. I am not sure enough. The reason is people keep busy themselves in an occasion or a holiday. They always go for excursion or a family tour. So they don't get enought time to visit. So the traffic falls down ultimately in a holiday.

At some point, business wise, during the holidays, in the late mornings, you want to position your own online activities to simply logging into your payment processor to see how much money you made. At another time of the day you want to check on your animals (wives, kids that you know about and the police scanner in case you need to make a quick getaway.)

Other than those priorities in life any STD treatment can wait until after the holidays.

It depends on what your site is about, and how much your budget is. Holiday season is when people spend a lot of money, so it might be an opportunity for you to capitalize on the shopping spree.

If you're selling summer shirts or offering investment advice, it's probably not going to do so well compared to selling Christmas gifts or offering decoration/festive advice. Companies such as Netflix might see an increase in viewers, whereas digital marketing gurus will probably see a drop. Through proper research, you will be able to find out what niches will 'most likely' do better than others during holiday season.

Website traffic increasing or decreasing can be argued either way. It's really down to the point of what you're offering, your current audience characteristics, your advertising budget, and your value vs. competitors. You've literally provided 0 information regarding your situation, but I would suggest creating a promotional campaign selling items at a discount if you're in e-commerce, or offer some freebies or fresh 'holiday' packages for other types of businesses.

My traffic to my two websites normally drops considerably in the 4th quarter of each year, and then goes crazy starting around January 2nd. It will vary a lot by niche though. For example, a holiday or Christmas themed website would probably see a surge in traffic this time of year.

Website traffic effects in holidays season saying this thing is not correct. It totally depends upon your website nature or services. If you have an e-commerce website you can gain a huge no of users by giving good discounts on your products. However, if you are offering technical services on your website this is the case maybe you will not get a certain amount of people on your website (Note- You can apply the same marketing trick here by offering good service packages to your customers).
There are platforms where you can promote your discounted services or products in front of your targeted audience.
    - Go for Social Media Platforms- Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Pinterest.
    - Create some attractive banners list your offers with the catchy lines on the banners.
    - Post these banners on your social media accounts with some attractive slogans.
    - Don't forget to join the related niche groups and to share your post the groups.

These are a few ways to earn better in holidays seasons.
If you want more tricks as me anything here in this post.

Agreed. Unless your website is related directly to Christmas and Holidays like ebay or travelling website your traffic is bound to drop dramatically around the month of December. I am having had time keeping my affiliate website revglue.com going but i think i should wait until January as ususal.

Website traffic in most of my ecommerce sites tends to ramp up significantly from October right through to to the 20th of December mirroring or validating what Dave Hermansen mentioned.

Transactions tend to peak towards the end of November and because we mostly ship within Australia there is a decline as some of our more remote locations cannot be reached easily via courier as you get closer to Christmas.

Web traffic generally doesn't' drop but the traffic switches to more urgent delivery browsing and the loss of remote customers switches to an upswing with more local customers seeking solutions that can be delivered within their timeframe.

With a large portion of my business in the B2B space there is always a drop in corporate spending from the end of November as in Australia the summer holidays for schools run from early December through to late January.

A lot of my corporate customers and their staff also have kids so they often book extended leave around this time of year.

Since 2009 January for us has outperformed December both from retail offline and from an online perspective but that is largely due to the products we are selling and the rapid increase as businesses discover they need to restock upon returning to work in January.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

Well, it depends. It depends on the niches you are targetting. If your niche is law related, then it's quite simple, you won't get the traffic you expected for the targeted niche. If your niches about the Christmas products then obviously going to get high and you sell will be double, even triple. The website traffic ups/downs by depending on your business nature.

As people is out of their work during a holiday, they generally don't have to visit business websites and so very few traffic come to these websites. But when they are on holiday, they have to visit travel sites. If you don't have travel sites, you're likely to get less traffic during Christmas and New Year time.

A blogging friend, Gary Jefferies, and I did a study on whether this is true. We discovered that it is indeed true that traffic drops the last 2 weeks in December as it gets closer to the holidays.
We advised in our article to continue to publish anyway. The reason: The post may rank on Google and bring you traffic to your article down the road.

It depends on the niche your website is in.
Suppose your website is about Christmas gifts and new year gifts. then your traffic might increase.
But if your website is about web designing services then your traffic might decrease.

    In general the traffic decreases.

Yeah, it is obvious that in the holiday season the traffic of the website goes down. Especially the service related business get the downfall in the holiday season.

Yes, holiday season affects website traffic. But it all depends on your business type. If you are an online shopping store which are selling clothes, shoes, electronic items, mobile and other items then your website traffic will sure increase. As per my experience most of the time online shopping websites get more traffic in holiday seasons.

Yes, it is true. I know, that some big companies even stopped their pr-campaigns on the Internet to save money. Very few people at this time in the network.
So don't worry, low website traffic in Christmas time - it's OK.

Yes, festival season definitely affects the website traffic. I have experienced that most of the B2B websites see the decrease in traffic while B2C websites like e-commerce have seen the increase in traffic before festival period starts. If you take an example of Christmas, people will shop on the site well before it starts. Post festival, there'll be a decrease in B2C website traffic.

    Not really.

Not if you are promoting physical consumer products.

Especially Christmas and New Year as well as Chinese New Year gifts like I do and have been doing since 2013 leveraging on Amazon.

    Besides info products.

Yes but in my opinion just a short time - people are still using the internet but at a lower rate.
However, it's also a great time to focus on what's coming up and be prepared so that when people come back online soon, you're ready for that.

It depends on the industry you are operating in if you are working in service base industry then chances are high to see drop in traffic on the other hand if you are working in E-commerce industry you notice good number of spikes in your analytics as well as good numbers in your sales this is what I experienced so far in my 5 years of SEO career working with multiple number of clients all over the world.

Well I can't speak for other niches, but I can tell you that people don't seem very interested in graphic design-related subjects during the holidays. Since Christmas my search traffic has been nearly half of what it normally is. Same with my YouTube channel - views dropped significantly. This happens every year though. It usually bounces right back in early January.

I would also suggest looking at other metrics like email signups, sales etc. to see whether the decline in organic traffic has any meaningful impact.

During Chrismas season, lot's of marketers will spend heavily on ads because that's a period when people spend money on shopping , if you're an ad expert you shouldn't experience much traffic drop since you'll out bid your competition.
