ONE. Maintain the Status Quo. If it ain't broke, leave it alone and along with this, to maintain health so we can enjoy our status, which we've worked hard to have.
TWO. Increase in income, usually by an increase in business activity.
THREE. A winding down, slowing things, aiming toward retirement, golden years.
Most Warriors appear to be in group two. Do you want to increase your income in 2019?
If YOUR answer is YES, then you face the question; What are you going to do to increase it, or what other, new and/or different business or money making ACTIVITIES will you be doing? One thing we often see here is a "pachinko" effect, bouncing around from thing to thing (often called Shiny Object Syndrome) looking for something which fits what we want to do.
Here is a lesson from my teen years as a construction "gopher" for a new house builder.
All new construction begins with a PLAN. There is a clear vision, a picture in the mind of the finished product...and a blueprint to follow to make it happen. Sometimes, the builder would make adjustments according to the buyer's instructions, like a larger kitchen or a bigger bathroom. These would require new blueprints for that section.
Before a house could begin construction there was site preparation, getting it ready. Then, they would lay a FOUNDATION. This was what the house would be built on, and it needed to be strong.
Then, they would put up a FRAMEWORK. The house would start to take shape.
And then the builder would FOCUS on every detail. He would oversee every sub contractor, making sure the blueprint was followed, or if adjustments needed to be made, they were done right.
Plan your success. It has been a mantra of mine for decades, yet, still, so many just begin without a PLAN. You can find evidence of that here with posts such as "Giving up after 11 years" and "five years and no money later" ... we see a lot of people taking a lot of time to make very little money.
Those with a PLAN seem to fare much better.
And a good plan begins with the END RESULT in mind. The house builder had a clear vision of what his goal was, and a time frame for getting it done. It is amazing how fast they can build a house if everything is done in an orderly manner. The TV show about home makeovers, they often could build a house in a week. AMAZING.
But many builders can complete the task on time, if they follow the plan and don't get distracted.
A PLAN for increasing income would have AMOUNTS in it, right? You want to go from where you are today to an increase in 2019, right? How much? A 50% increase? A 25 thousand dollar increase?
HOW much do you want to make in 2019? Begin there. Then more questions come up, like HOW YOU do it. What will you do to get this increase?
This is where a TRANSACTION model comes in handy. If your transaction is 100 dollars and your increase is 20 thousand dollars, you know you need to make at least 200 transactions. Which brings more questions into your planning, like WHO, AND WHERE?
Some builders will build on spec, that is, with the plan to sell it once the home is built, and others specialize in custom houses, made to order. This is like a marketer building a blog and then trying to get "buyers".
It is a nice idea in business to have a customer lined up, one which can afford it. Make sure your PLAN includes prospects who have the money to buy your products or services. So, put that into your plan. The WHO you want as a customer, and more and more questions, like where to find them...
WHAT to say to them? When? All those basic elements of marketing.
So, before the new year arrives, you have a week to THINK about your plan...and once you have it in place, then you can begin to FOCUS and build your FOUNDATION and FRAMEWORK for a good year, one which could become your Status Quo for years to come.
PLAN. FOCUS. FOUNDATION. FRAMEWORK.
Do you have plans, or do you need some help with getting your plans ready, or are you one of those just do it folks?
