Hello,

I'm currently using PPC to drive traffic to my landing pages. I have learned a lot over the last few months. The one thing that is still not clear is how much I should be spending on non-converting keywords.

I can use an A/B split test calculator on keywords that are getting sales, but determining when I should pause non-converting keywords is still a mystery to me.

Let's say I'm promoting a product that pays $20 per sale. Would 2x the payout be enough per non-converting keyword? Is this amount too much to test a keyword? Or should I be spending more?

    Honestly I wouldn't try selling anything from cold PPC traffic, your first goal is to get them to sign-up for a free offer and build trust.

      I want to learn PPC before I jump into email marketing. I do plan on getting involved with list building this year. My goal is to launch my first email marketing campaign before the end of March 2019.

    It really depends. Where are you buying your ppc traffic from?

    Some people pause keywords once they have spent the amount of the offer. Some will do a tad more.

    I think there is a disconnect with the question you are asking.. and what it is you really want to know.


    Lets start with a simple definition. Conversion in terms of running a PPC ( Pay Per Click ) ad is getting a click IE clicking on the ad and getting to your landing page.

    Are you A) getting clicks OR B) not getting clicks?

    If you are saying A) yes people are clicking my ad, then we know to some extent the ad is basically working. There is enough interest in your ad text to create a Converion. IF this is the case then we need to look at the context of YOUR ad and YOUR landing page. Does your headline MATCH your ad copy? this is really a big deal.

    IF you are running MULTIPLE ADS ( IE multiple search terms ) to a single landing page, your overall results will not be that good. I personally have a lander that is matched in context to each and every single Ad and its verbage.

    IF the case is you are B) not getting any ad clicks, then It is the AD text you need to work on - no clicks means BAD AD COPY.

    Let me know where you are out and maybe we can work you through this.

      Here are my stats for my most recent Bing/Clickbank campaign:

      Campaign CTR: 10.32%
      Clicks: 129
      Impressions: 1250
      Quality score: 9/10

      Ad 1:

      Clicks: 119
      Impressions: 1143
      CTR: 10.41%

      Ad 2:

      Clicks: 10
      Impressions: 107
      CTR: 9.35%

      My campaign currently has only two keywords. The keywords are almost identical.

      Stats from Clickbank:

      Hops: 17
      Order form impressions: 5
      Sales: 1
      Landing page CTR: 13%

      Total cost to date: $78.58
      Revenue: $42.59

      Unfortunately I didn't have my tracking setup correctly, so I'm not sure which keyword generated the sale. I'm currently working on fixing the tracking.

        How many new list signups did you get or did you just send visitors to the offer.

    I would be very careful to protect your actual keywords and offer.

    Those numbers are insanely good!

    I don't think I've ever seen CTRs that high on Bing.

    You are onto something good. Keep optimizing your campaigns and get a squeeze page up as soon as possible for testing.

      Hi Brent,

      I picked up a copy of Cashvertising and it has helped me a lot. My ads & landing pages always target at least one of the Life-Force 8's.

      All my ads that I create usually have a high CTR. I just seem to lose people on the landing page. My landing pages are always relevant to the ad. I usually try to aim for a 9/10 quality score each time.

        If I were you I would concentrate on developing a freebie to get people on your email list and a follow-up series to increase conversions. Make your freebie valuable and lead naturally into your paid product.

          Thanks for all the help, Brent. I would say I have a decent understanding of PPC, so email marketing is definitely the next step.

          I have lots of research to do. My goal is to have my first email marketing campaign up and running this time next week.

          I guess my next steps are:

          1. Determine what autoresponder to go with
          2. Create a freebie offer
          3. Create an email capture page
          4. Create follow up emails

          I think creating the freebie offer will be the most challenging for me. That step will definitely require the most work.

          I'm excited and at the same time a little nervous to get started with email marketing.

          I think email marketing will be the game changer for me.

    You can start with a fairly simple sales funnel and grow it out as you go.

    Something as simple as:

    Squeeze page:


    Thank you/ info page:


    Download page:


    Later on, you might add a One Time Offer (OTO) or upsells, etc. Don't over complicate things at first.

    To start your follow up could be a "thanks for subscribing" message and a few reminders about the product and how to buy.

    Of course, you will have your affiliate links throughout the funnel. Don't wait to offer people the opportunity to buy. Make it easy and obvious.

    I just wanted to give you all a quick update...

    I signed up for Builderall, and I also picked up a copy of Dotcom Secrets.

    I'm slowly putting together my funnel. I have a bit of a learning curve, so my progress is a little slower than expected.

    I should be able to put together my next funnel a little faster.

    The usual "rule of thumb" for testing is that you need to spend 3 times your payout, per test. If you change one word, or one factor, that's a new test.
