So - which converts best?

Interested in opinions from people who have tried both approaches - not guesses from people who havent...

Question - when you email an offer to your list, what is converting better.....a traditional sales letter or a VSL?

Reason I ask is this - vast majority or emails are read on mobile devices. Do people have the timespan to watch a long VSL on a mobile or do you find they prefer to browse a sales letter at their own leisure....

So, from experienced marketers - which converts the best at the mo for you?

Unfortunately there is no golden answer. It depends. It depends on your audience, niche and writing skills.

This is why it's always important to split test as much as possible.

There is no competition between them and you cannot tell which one is better either. Just like Chris mentioned, it depends. And if you be more specific about your audience and product then we might be able to shed some light.

You're not going to find one type to be universally better than the other in all situations. There's a lot of factors you have to consider - audience, offer, call to action, etc...

Split test each method using different segments of your list, as well as, testing both to another common segment.

Again though, the audience plays into it. Gamers may act more on the VSL. Coin collectors may opt for the traditional sales letter (optimized for mobile, of course).

In the end, however, you should aim for an optimal version of BOTH methods and make sure to present your list with both of those versions. Focus the split testing on perfecting each version.

If there's anything that I've learned from my time online is that you have to test everything. Testing allows you to gather feedback and from this feedback you can make better decisions with your online business.

You have to split test to figure out what works. Split testing allows you to gather data and from this data you can make an informed decision.

For instance, you can try out a video sales letter and it converts better than a sales page or the video sales letter may not convert as well while written sales page may.

It's all a matter of testing.

  • The real way to find out is to test, test and do more testing.

You could be underestimating your audience. Perhaps they enjoy watching long video on their mobile devices. That's the reason most television networks have apps for viewing their shows on mobile devices these days. People enjoy watching their favourite shows during their lunch breaks at work, so it would be wise to test sales videos, as video usually converts better depending on your Circumstances

Right now, at the moment, the correct answer is BOTH.

The trend I see at least in the MMO market is the transcript of the video is the sales letter. One on top of the other, you can choose.

I personally think it's a great idea, for this reason:

I don't like vsl, for example, because they always have these videos that you can't fast forward to get to the point, and you have to listen to the whole boring thing.
    ...among others.

If the product is high quality, why not use webinars, which convert 10 times as well as either a sales-page or sales video?
