Have You Ever Converted an Ebook to Sell at Amazon or as a 'Kindle' Download?

by Ouroboros 9 replies
I've been researching all the hoops you have to jump through to publish your ebook as a Kindle application and also how to convert it so that you can sell it at Amazon.com as a printed "book".

I personally think there is an unexploited market here that we should be using to increase the 'perceived value' of our online products and also as an additional profit stream for any ebooks I might be marketing.

Does anyone else have any interest in this?

It's easy, don't think about it, just do it. Also you don't have to be a self publish, just have rights, public domain anyone?
Also, don't play the 99cent game.

The kindle market is slow however, they have not sold that many units

I know Amazon takes a big cut of the Kindle book sales, and I think you are pretty limited in the formatting- no images, for example, way less flexibility than a PDF.

    Chris,

Perhaps you would modify your kindle version to have fewer images.

Amazon will "take a cut", but considering that they are advertising and publishing your information...

Did I say AMAZON would be advertising and marketing your ebook that you couldn't sell to your family for $19.95!

"A big cut of something sure beats the hell out no cut out of nothing"
    I said that!

There are a lot of restrictions on coverting your books for the Kindle. It isn't just about the % that Amazon take, but nobody outside the US is allowed to add their products for sale. At the moment, only people in the US are allowed to buy a Kindle, and the rules for ownership are too restrictive.

I am confused at what you are talking about this Kindle Version on Amazon. If you want to sell books on Amazon, why don't you print them and sell them? What is so difficult about that? Lots of people sell books on Amazon, and printing and spiral binding or saddle stitching isn't that difficult to get done. I just got prices on a few I plan to put on eBay and while I wouldn't expect to make a fortune overnight, they should sell at a profit. The more pages the more cost obviously.

If anyone wants to explain what this Kindle version is I would be interested to know. But it is bed time now so good night.

Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader–an embedded system for reading electronic books (e-books)–launched in the United States by prominent online bookseller Amazon.com in November 2007. It uses an electronic paper display, reads the proprietary Kindle (AZW) format, and downloads content over Amazon Whispernet, which uses the Sprint EVDO network. The Kindle can be used stand alone without a computer. Whispernet is accessible through Kindle without any fee.[1] Amazon does not sell the Kindle outside the United States as Whispernet only works in the U.S.
