How to set up an affiliate program for my business?

I run a business offering B2B services and I've recently been approached by someone who wants to sell my services on an affiliate basis.

At the moment its not really something I want to jump into too heavily, but on the otherhand I think its a good idea.

I want him to have a version of my site with his details on, but new clients are brought onboard via a detailed form which I would have to be able to distinguish from my own new clients.

My first thought was a subdomain, but the url wouldn't look great.

So how can I set up a simple affiliate system?

Cheers

How to you plan to collect payment? Will you pay the affiliate per lead, flat fee per sale or a percentage of the sale? If it's a percentage, will you charge the same rate for every service?

      Hi Kurt

I plan to offer a percentage on the frontend and a smaller percentage for the recurring payments as this is a subscription service.

Right now there is only one package that I offer at a flat price, but clients can buy extra units / credits when they need them.

I'd like to be able to offer a percentage on these as well.

What platform is your website currently using (Wordpress, Joomla!, etc.) or is it a custom site?

Since you only have one affiliate for now, you may just want to have him put up a website on his own domain (both approved by you) and have the form info sent to you and him (to keep things a bit transparent for both of you). And then you would just pay him manually every period (monthly, quarterly, whatever).

No use in wasting time and money with a hosted or self-hosted affiliate program for just one person. If it works out and you want to attract more affiliates later, then you can look into an automated system later on. But my guess is, for your application, you will need something customized, not off-the-shelf.

My site is built on Bootstrap, so unfortunately no easy plugin solution.

You're right - I don't have the time (or inclination) right now to set up an entire affiliate system, so giving him an aternative domain and forwarding the form info makes sense.

If this is the best option, I'll probably just go for a subdomain in order to keep my branding front and center and look at a more permanent solution if I decide to take on more affiliates later.

      Thanks for your input

Most affiliates don't make any sales, so I wouldn't put a lot of effort into this just for a single affiliate, unless you know he can drive sales.

I think what I'd do is use one of the popular affiliate platforms like JVZoo and set up a sales page on your domain where the affiliate can send traffic using an affiliate link. This will give you access to other affiliates if you want. Use your own sales page for your own sales so you don't pay JVZoo any fees for sales you make.
