Can bodybody help me with WP pls

Hi Guys,

This might be alittle bit stupid of me but i seem to have this problem when i first create a WP blog and i have afew now, I first go into dashboard and create a post which becomes my homepage but i`m sure this is wrong as i`m not creating a page you can return to if you click on another page that i have made in the blog, you just find yourself having to click the return button on your broswer.

Should the first thing i do when i go into dashboard is create a page and not a post and would this become the homepage ??

This i think is also why my site looks rubbish in the organic searchers just the site title with no other writing from the blog underneath.

Pls help... Jim

    Hi Jim,

If you want a specific page to be your home page you can do so by going into the reading settings and set a 'front page displays' by clicking on a static page. You can choose a front page and a posts page here.

    Jim,

a few things to bear in mind, the front page of a blog is basically a bit like an index although you can have 1 post or 1 page there. What I mean is is you create a post called red widgets it's location is actually yourdomain.com/red-widgets (is you are using a %postname% permalink) and not the front page of the blog which depending on settings will show you last x number of posts or extracts.

the yourdomian.com/red-widgets page is actually were most visitor will land if they search for red widgets.

you can add a list of recent posts to the sidebar or a related posts widget to the posts.

The only thing that usually appears in the nav bar at the top is links to pages, Home , privacy and if you are selling a product i would recommend a review of the product
