Paying for e-mail

Do you feel its worth it to pay for a custom e-mail address at your domain?
I sort of see an advantage in the fact that every time I send an e-mail I am indirectly advertising my primary website. Its also sort of nice to have a one of a kind address.

    I don't think it's worth it.

    Use Gmail. The amount of functionality you get with Gmail for free is just amazing. I highly suggest you try to get YourName@gmail.com.

    Also, for the part of indirectly advertising your primary website, just include a link to it in your e-mail sig.

    Funny you should mention gmail as Gmail for Organizations is my provider. $50 a year for one e-mail account does seem a bit steep. However, I'm afraid if I downgrade from professional to free that I'll lose some of my e-mail functionality if not my entire e-mail address. I'm on a 30 day free trial, so if I were to downgrade now, I'd never be billed. But as a free Gmail user for years, I decided to give this a try.

    Unless you have a really cheap webhost (like $1/month), I'm surprised you would need to 'pay' for e-mail at your own domain name. How much are they asking?

    If you are paying more than $10/month for webhosting, you should look around.

    $50 a year for premium Google apps. I pay nothing for hosting as I merely forward my domain to my blog, but Google acts as my e-mail provider under "Gmail for Organizations." I figured out the answer to my previous concern, and should I downgrade before my free trial is up, I'd have to pay nothing but may have to forfeit some bonus apps and so forth that I never used anyway. But all and all would be able to keep myname@mydomain with all of the functionality of a free gmail account.

    Little confused TBH. Most domain hosts include at least one pop (email) account. I'd check who hosts your domain.

    My hosting also allows me to create email addresses without extra charge, for me it's worth it especially in terms of branding.
