1st party vs 3rd party cookies/tracking

Currently signing up with some affiliate platforms and there are a few smaller companies that boast 1st party tracking/cookies (Refersion, Leaddyno, ect).

Since they are integrated with our payment platform they would use our domain and be "1st party cookies". With GDPR (and the consumer privacy act coming soon) do you all think this will be a big advantage? Are affiliates having trouble with 3rd party cookies?

I know the cookie itself is the same, this is more just a discussion if you think 3rd party cookies will suffer with GDPR like regulations and if 1st party cookies are worth considering a benefit.
