Multiple Sources of traffic produce no sales- HELP

I have handmade products that have sold in person, so I set up online. I did the same here- had Instagram influrencers (which I checked as best I know how to be sure it wasn't a bot driven site and had genuine followers and comments) did 4 of those. Then I ran Facebook and Instagram ads, in all of Atlanta and Dallas. In all I reached about 7,500 people. Of those 59 clicked through to my website store. No sales. I know my product photos are good, and I know my product is good. What now? I need either a mentor or someone I can pay to do it correctly. Can you help me? I also tried to get set up with Google Merchants. It will NOT verify my website. I own it - bought it from godaddy and I have checked to see that it is registered to me and not accidentally not switched over. No matter how I use- metadata, html, all the ways suggested on google it will not verify my site. I have talked to Google 15 or more times, and they keep reexplaining how to do the things that dont work, then shuffling me to the next guy. Anyone do this for a business that is not a ripoff, wannabe internet media marketing Ty whatshisname kid hoping to get his lambo from my business but has never dont it before but also wont charge me $10k to help me out. lol THANKS THANKS THANKS

Difficult to offer specific comments without knowing the products or seeing the ads, but I'd recommend you look at Etsy (etsy.com). IMO, it's the best online marketplace for handmade products at the moment.

I would agree with Frank on checking out Etsy, may also want to try selling your items on Ebay.

"I know my product photos are good"

One thing I know from past experience is that sometimes certain images won't perform well for whatever reason (even if they're high-quality).

When marketing (especially on Facebook and Instagram) it's always a good idea to test different images (among other things).

Sometimes the things you are certain won't work end up being your best performers.

Good luck and wish you the best with your business!

    Yes. That's right.
You don't actually need your own website.
Use Etsy to sell, Youtube - Instagram & Pinterest to show your products, Facebook to engage with your buyer/prospect, and Twitter to boost your promotion.
You can find inexpensive VA to do those things exclusively for you on freelancer.com and other gigs-platform.
    Good luck!

    Just a quick question.

Have you got a Google Adwords account set up?

I know when we were looking to get the merchant account set up and synch the feed etc nothing really worked until we were regularly advertising with Adwords and then google started to put their reps onto us to try to increase our ad spend.

I mentioned to them I had tried to set things up and it then only took a relatively short discussion and a bit of screensharing with someone at Google and my account and everything got set up pretty quickly.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

    • I have tried 10 ways to sunday to get Google to verify my website so that I can use google adwords and run google shopping ads. They have passed me along to about 4 or 5 people at this point. I call and they say my "case manager" is not in that day. It has been a nightmare. That is why I want to hire someone- I am in waaaaay over my head with things that others find so simple. I have live chatted, emailed, called and followed youtube tutorials ad nauseum. That is how I ended up on this page. I was hoping someone who actually knows how to get results would respond to my willingness to hire someone to help me.

I have begged them to go into my account from their end and help me fix it.

Will get those recorded and posted this week! Thanks!

      I will message her now.

Thanks, I have developed a few new items while waiting on answers. I appreciate your help.

www.thegildeddoe.com I am up for the hard truth if that is what you find. I am at a no going back point. For the commenter that suggested researching platforms, I did research etsy and ebay. Ebay I despise, and I consulted with a girl selling 20k/mo in similar style products and 2 others who do this full time who say etsy is a difficult platform for them due to the social aspect. I have another store that is a social platform, so I opted to do Shopify. I will add in all the fixes stated here and I appreciate EVERY person's input. Thanks so much!

Don't spend any more money on advertising or on getting anyone to help you fix up things until you have got the basics sorted out yourself.

Regardless of the product and the effort you have already put in there is so much to do from a really basic point of view.

The site is not ready to send traffic to nor would it get approved by Google in its current state.

You need to have the bare essential pages before doing anything else.

You need all your legal pages sorted out.

        Terms & Conditions

        Privacy Policy

        Shipping and Returns

        Contact Us

        Etc.

        Fix them up first.

Then once the basic structure is in place you can add content relevant to your niche.

You need to do a lot of work on sorting out your product range and adding enough products to make it look at least professional.

If you can't get the website to that basic level you would definitely be better off selling through another platform.

At least if you use another platform you can dedicate your time more to promotion.

I'm not sure any promotion is going to work for you with the website as it is.

Sorry to be harsh but that is how I see it.

        Best regards,

        Ozi

    Hey Single Mom,

How about making some videos showing some of the following ideas?

    1) How you make the products

    2) Demonstrating use of the products

    3) Stories about your products

You could put these on YouTube, etc.., and create free traffic generators.

Be sure to title your video with your ideal long tail keywords, and get those and more into your description as well.

Then you might look into getting a social influencer to share your videos.

    Good luck!

You can say this only if you have done a lot of testing online. You need data to tell if this is true.

  • SingleMomPhenom,

Less than 1% click thrus and 0% conversions can mean a lot of things. Notable reasons might be:

    1. Your current sources of traffic might be unsuitable for your offers ...
-- You need to pinpoint the exact online communities, apps, social media groups, sites and blogs where your ideal audience hangs out ...

    2. You aren't likely communicating the right value propositions to your target customers ...
    -- You should identify the relevant interests, needs, content viewing preferences and activities of your ideal audiences at the moment;
-- You must develop strategic tactics to create and integrate the most suitable marketing messages for your opt-in copy, pre-sell and sales funnels; and
-- These should be aligned to the relevant details of your ideal customer profile ...

    3. You probably aren't selling your products in the right ecommerce platforms ...
    -- You need to create a list of the most suitable ecommerce platforms for your products;
-- These should be credible and popular across your target audiences; and
-- These platforms must also offer the right secure payment, shipping and delivery options for your ideal customers ...

You can successfully do all these things through the following ways:

    1. Perform niche market research and competitor analytics;
    2. Use your niche market research data to create and regularly update your ideal customer profile for your latest offers; and
    3. Develop small test sales funnels and promotional campaigns. Analyze results. Improve what you're doing. Scale up things that are working really well. Drop those that aren't ...

    I hope this helps ...

I can't speak for the Google verification problem but as for Facebook and Instagram Ads, you'll be reaching people further up in the sales funnel typically, in the 'awareness' part of the funnel. This is great if you have a large ad budget! If you have a smaller ad budget however, you might be better off trying Google Search Ads since you can target keywords where people are ready to buy now and are therefore further down the sales funnel near the 'action' part of the funnel.

With that said, never fall in love with a product. If it's not selling after a few campaigns then I think you'd get farther by going back to the drawing board and developing a fresh new product.

First of all, it's harder to point out the problems with your site without seeing it, but I'll attempt to do it anyway (because the problems are almost always the same)...

    1) You say, "You know your pictures are good." The thing is, you might think that, but maybe you really don't know what a good product shot looks like.

Furthermore, your pictures shouldn't be "good." They shouldn't be "adequate." You're COMPETING in the marketplace -- so they should be GREAT. They are critical.

Lighting. Sharp focus. Large image size. Angles. These are just some of the factors involved.

    2) If you're driving traffic and you're not converting, it's one of 2 main things: Either you are targeting the wrong traffic (but don't know it), or your website just isn't very good at converting visitors into paying customers.

Again, you need to do TWO things: Get targeted traffic AND convert that traffic.

    3) Your website needs to look professional. It needs to generate trust. If you don't have a good about page, then you're asking people to trust an anonymous source.

Put yourself in your prospect's shoes -- would YOU trust your own website?

There are a TON of little factors that contribute. Your website URL, your logo, your layout, etc.

    4) Finally, there is the issue of your "product description." In other words, your sales copy. So many go wrong here.

You need to give a prospect all the info they need to make a buying decision. Saying the product is available in blue and weighs 4 ounces is NOT enough info! Again, put yourself in your prospect's shoes.

Finally, even if you provide enough info, that info might not be compelling. It's simple: Better sales copy; better sales.

Here are a couple simple suggestions:

    A) Tell them the story of the product. History... how it's made... how to use it... explain the benefit it provides (whether that's utility, or just beauty).

    B) Writing copy is hard. For an amateur, the easiest way might be to list a series of bullet points. (Bullet points are almost magical.)

In a nutshell, if your product isn't selling, there is ALWAYS A REASON FOR IT. I've given you a few tips to help you identify your product's problem(s).

If you fix your traffic, website, pictures, and descriptions -- and then test & track the results -- you'll fix the problem.

    I hope that helps.

    John

Instead of creating your own website and worrying about how to get traffic, I believe you should just leverage the big websites that already have a TON of traffic. This might include eBay, Amazon, Let it Go, Craigslist, etc.

And if you can't get that to work, why not just focus on offline sales? Maybe find some people you can sell your items to at wholesale and then let them worry about selling the stuff online.

First off, I don't know who you spoke to about selling those items on Etsy but after taking a quick look at them, they absolutely scream Etsy. As someone who just launched an Etsy store the week of Thanksgiving 2018, I'm here to tell you that you can make sales and good revenue very quickly on the platform.

I currently have 55 products in a very competitive niche market and need to add many more. Ideally, you want to have at least 50 products that you can sell on Etsy to judge if it's something that will work well for you. If you don't have 50 products yet, I'd go ahead and start your Etsy store anyway.

As far as the social aspect of Etsy is concerned, you don't need to worry about it that much, especially in the beginning. True, I'm not doing $20,000 worth of sales per month like others you've spoken to, but I have been able to break $1000 in profit in my first 10 weeks on the platform. Best of all, that's with zero social marketing whatsoever and the sales have continued to come after the holiday season. All in all, I'm calling it a win.

The reason that so many people continue to tell you that Etsy is great for your type of product is that the platform receives more than 200 million monthly visitors that are all eager to buy exactly the type of merchandise that you have to offer. They offer amazing selling tools and customer support to help you get started.

Also, there's a lot to learn in the beginning stages when it comes to running your own e-commerce store. While you focus on doing that, you can have your products listed on Etsy for $0.20 every three months. While you learn more about effective traffic generation strategies, you can be making sales on Etsy right out of the gate.

One thing that I would recommend that you do is pay for promoted listings on the platform. Just make certain that you set a bid cap that you're comfortable with for your cost per click. It doesn't have to be anything outrageous, typically $0.10 will do the trick. This will help you get an initial boost in exposure for your store and get those first few coveted sales that will help your store rank higher organically in the future.

Okay, I'll disembark from the Etsy hype train now. Seriously, check it out though.

All right, let's have a look at your site.

The very first thing that I notice when I land on your homepage is that there are no branded images for your site or any pages that tell me something about you or your business. The only things I see are the products you have for sale.

Since I know absolutely nothing about where the products are coming from or who's making them, even though I think they are nice-looking products, I wouldn't buy them. For all I know this site is being run by a Nigerian prince who will take my account information and run for the hills with it. Even something as simple as a quick single-color banner with the text "The Gilded Doe" and a profile picture of you or your workbench would suffice here. Just add something that tells potential customers, "Hey, here's who you're dealing with and I'm amazing!"

Overall, your product images are okay. They aren't incredible, but they'll do for now. I would recommend that you spend a little bit of time in the future looking at how to create amazing photos for your products. As one of my mentors told me, "Your pictures will make the sale or not 90% of the time. They have to be better than everyone else's or they aren't good enough."

The reason that I say they aren't amazing is because the images for your zodiac bracelets all look the same and I can't tell if there's any difference from one side to another. Also, the cinderblock background behind your Taini Cuff image makes me think that the product was thrown together quickly in a factory type environment, even though I know it wasn't. It's just that the cinderblock backdrop makes me form a connection to mass-produced goods like those found at a big box store.

One more thing, the different sizes of images on your main page makes it very hard to follow the flow of your product catalog.

I hope this doesn't come off as sounding too harsh. I honestly want you to be able to succeed as quickly as possible and handling some of these issues will help you to get there much faster.

In closing, here are a few quick things that I would do to get your business to succeed as fast as possible.

    1. Create Your Shop on Etsy - It's cheaper, has an existing audience and can help you learn the ropes of e-commerce.
    2. Don't Focus On Social - Yes, I know it's tempting and we've all heard the stories of people finding overnight success through Facebook ads. The truth is that you will probably spend hundreds of dollars learning the ropes and no offense, with your site looking the way it does right now, you'll be lucky if you ever make a penny from your advertising efforts. Trust me, I've been there done that and it really stinks.
    3. Add More Products - Regardless of what platform you want to go with, having more products to test out is always a good idea. Revisit the ones that don't sell six months from now and eliminate them from your catalog while focusing on spending more money promoting the types of items that do sell.
    4. Don't Give Up - Always remember that the only way to fail at this is to quit on yourself. Continue to learn, continue to grow and continue to fight. Do this and you will find your recipe for success in the future.

Again, I hope my advice on your site doesn't come across as being too harsh but I don't want you to continue to spend time and money pushing something that just isn't there yet. Your products are great, you just need to get them in front of the right people on the right platform.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11482244].message }}

I looked at your site too, and came up with the same as Johnny12345 and Ozi and a bit more.

The website is not the beginning. The beginning is: Who is your jewelry for and why they should buy from your site?

The website should answer those 2 questions. I mean, you need more pages, but not just any about us page, contact us page. You need pages that, right away, show who your stuff is for and that you can be trusted to deliver... That the outcome of me (your client) interacting with you (your website and you) is going to be smooth, pleasant.

So, like people said, you need better images... good is not the the standard, you need images that help conversions...

I suggest you look at amazon.com. For the images and for the rest.

You need to be perceived as trustworthy... You need trust badges: better business bureau, a page that explains your process (I order from you and in x amount of time I get what I ordered. If it's flawed, xy and z are my options to get you to fix my issues).

You need an about page that sets you apart from your competitors... You don't want to be better, faster, cheaper... you want to be different... Which takes us back to who is your stuff for, to your unique selling proposition... I.e, what's your equivalent to Domino's Pizza's Delivered in 30 minutes or it's free? (Notice they did not say anything about the pizza being edible, let alone good... They just said you get it within 30 minutes.)

Do you have happy customers already? Can they review / leave testimonials?

Who IS your competition? Why are YOU a good source for the jewelry you make? WHO buys jewelry like the ones you make?

This is on your homepage: Copy of Copy of Copy of Black Leather Zodiac Sign Constellation Cuff=ARIES and that doesn't look good.

I think you need to try different audience segments. split test audience and see what convert most. you have a low CTR. its either your target audience or your ad copy.

Also to increase your sales and optimize your conversion rates.

setup marketing automation. follow up with leads, retargeting pixel, and support bots. track visitors sources and conversion to optimize your marketing.

Before you placed your items on a website, should have placed them on:

    - Ebay
    - Etsy

What made you want to start with social media first before doing any paid advertising via PPC or media buys? The answer might be within the way you're promoting your products.

Is your website address: thegildeddoe .com? If so i think the site needs a major redesign. What is your goal per month in the amount of revenue that you are trying to make?

I think combining both things are good , I mean having a website is a great thing It'll save you 50% of the work, the problem consist on how you're doing it , the strategy you're implementing to sell your product .
I'll give you a small hint , try to use social media to bring good quality traffic for the product you're selling don't try to post something to convince them to buy , but just let them to engage & see hat it is about , some of you audience might go to marketplace platforms to look for your product or similar products , if they find the same product that you already put in these websites , you'll get a very faithful customers that are willing to pay whatever you want for you product .these stores are great stores to start with .
    Ebay
    Etsy
after a while you'll build your own reputation that's where you'll promote your products & boost'em in social media , to get a descent amount of sales
    Good luck mate .

I know I could use even better photos, but this was the absolute best I could create myself and they are leaps and bounds better than what I had. Thanks in advance. Still no sales.

Search Google for ways to magnify images on the type of website you have.

You'll get something like this: https://www.shopify.com/partners/blog/jquery-image-zoom or this https://sirvdemo.myshopify.com/produ...plus-sirv-demo (I am not affiliated with them, don't know if they're good or not, just that a way to magnify will help).

Click shop for is going to confuse people. Click the shop button

      will not.

I would make the whole sentence clickable.

Difficult to provide certain comments without understanding the merchandise or viewing the advertisements, but I would advise that you look at Etsy (etsy.com). It's the very best market for goods right now.

you are just wasting money paying for social media ads with a website looking like that.

Go on Etsy and sell your products.

You need more than 59 visitors to make a statistically significant decision. I suggest you leave the ad running for a bit then break down the segments to identify your most profitable pockets of traffic i.e. the 80/20 rule.

I had the same experience with Facebook ads...loads of traffic no conversion.

Either your targeting needs to be tweaked, try to look at your demographics from Facebook and see if you can narrow in on similar types of people that bought your product in person.

The other thing that could help is try to collect a list of emails and send out offers or new product announcements

I agree with the many folks above that recommend Etsy. Spend a full week researching things on Google like "etsy marketing tips" and "how to rank on etsy" and "etsy keyword tips".
