I have no idea where my sales are coming from??

Hey guys, I have been making a few sales lately but have no idea where they are coming from...

I have links to my product in my blog post, youtube videos, Instagram bio, pinterest pics, on forums, in comments etc...

It be really helpful to know where these sales are coming from because it would let me know what I should put more focus on and improve even more...

Any tips on how to do this?

    I would download a plugin for Wordpress.


    That will give you quick and easy access to stats - namely where people are coming from.

    You don't need Clickmagick or a paid service for this. You need need UTM tags and Google Analytics Goals.



    Quick overview:
    Anytime you post a link on YouTube, Facebook or even your own website, you use UTM tags.

    Example:

    Next, you make sure your product has a dedicated Thank You page and you setup a Goal in Google Analytics telling it that Thank You page should be tracked as a Sale.

    When a visitor lands on your website through the UTM link, Google will keep track of the UTM tags during their entire journey (including purchase) and it will break down where sales are coming from inside your Goals.

    I see a lot of suggestions here. But it literally made me chuckle how no one has talked about Google's own Google Analytics. You can track your every sale with ease once you have set it up with few steps. All you need is a google account and it is absolutely free. It certainly doesn't cover all the possible forms of tracking (That is why all these other tools are available) but for your goal of tracking the source of your sales. It is one of the very basics of GA. Give it a try and google has all the good guidelines and tutorials for you to try it yourself easily.

    Google analytics coupled with UTM tags as Jesus Perez pointed out is a highly efficient way to get the data you require.

    Take the time to set up your analytics correctly and you can pretty much match records in GA with those that come from your CMS. This becomes even more important if you are paying for traffic.

    The level of detail will be very granular.

    Even if you haven't set up UTM tags the data you can get from Google Analytics will point to the major sources of your results.

    I personally use ClickMagick to track all my links. It can help you determine how many unique clicks each link gets, where they came from, if they are bots, and you can even update the link in case you ever change your offering. Absolutely love it.

    Oh also, if you use the paid versions, you can track entire funnels too

    The easiest way would be:

    1. On your site, add the tracking code of an analytics tool called Heap Analytics (free for 5000 sessions a month).

    2. On Heat Analytics, define events related to a sale on your website, such as viewed the sale page or checkout page or sale confirmation page. You can also define specific page interactions like clicked a button as events too.

    3. Then under Users, filter everyone who did the Sale event, and it shows you their Initial Referrer (which website they came from if any).

    You gotta start tracking everything now. Every link in every place of the internet put a tracker on it. There are alot of website trackers out there to help you achieve this. This is something that good autoresponders can do (like Aweber), or something as familiar as Google Analytics.

    What you can do is, get Alexa. Get the paid version and it tells you which channel is getting you traffic from which page. This way you can keep track of which channels to push!
    Also it will tell you world ranking and country specific rankings of your startup !

    Have you looked into embedding Analytics on your website? The most simplest and easiest tool for this case is Google Analytics. Set up an Analytics account and add Conversion Goals to your campaign. It will be much easier for you to track where the sales are coming from.

    May I ask which affiliate network did you promote products from?

    If they are from Clickbank, you can put my tracking id as articles, blogs, paidads or Youtube videos.

    If they are from other affiliate networks, you may consider tracking software such as Click Magic.

    I normally don't track my traffic and sales.

    What I am focusing on is the quality of traffic that methods bring me consistently over time and focusing on those methods.

    One of the things that is useful for keeping track of where the sales and traffic is coming from or even specifically from which campaign, is URL builder from Google. It can be added to Chrome browser. You can use it to specify a keyword, website/page, campaign. Then those campaigns will be differentiated in Google Analytics, so you will always know where the traffic is coming from. For example:

    Source: Warrior Forum
    Medium: Social (Fb, LinkedIn) / Email / Media/ Blogs
    Campaign Name: Sale spring 2019
    Campaign Content: blog post/ link

    Also remember the tags are case sensitive, so it's easier to use lower case letters. Don't use this for links on your own website. Make sure to differentiate between paid and organic traffic (paid vs organic social for example).

    Google Analytics is a free tool that Google provides.

    They give you a small piece of code that you can copy and paste into your website. Once the code is installed, Google will provide you with reports that summarize all of the important aspects of your website.

    Google Analytics will help you track data points like the keywords people are typing to find your website; the state, county or city they were logged in from, the time of day and more.

      You can use the above method but if you're not a techie guy perhaps you can use Clickmagic which allows you to track your traffic, leads and sales. Yeah, it will cost you $17 per month but very helpful.

    The best way to find out where your sales are coming from is to hook up a Google Analytics account to your WordPress site. You can search for e-commerce templates that will create a report for you to use. This will show which page, post, etc most of your sales come from. You can even show which referral websites bring you the most sales as well. To really get into the nitty gritty I would learn about creating URL tags, cookies, and tracking codes that you can add to your links and web pages.

    By implementing google analytic code into the website, you can get proper idea for your sales from where they are coming. GA (google analytics) also helps to find out source and medium from where sales are coming.     Look at what products are selling and check your analytics for that product page. If you see the referrer is coming primarily from one source, it's most likely that. Once you identity that traffic source, whether it's a blog post etc, then go back and edit the link with conversion tracking.

    Most of the marketplaces have their own tracking system, you can easily create a sub id for your traffic sources that way you know where the sales are coming from. Use google analytics to keep track of your traffic, create UTM links. If none of them useable for you go for custom tracking tools like prosper 202 .
