The best thing I can tell you to do at this point is to run a speed test on your site with a tool like pingdom

There are many things you need to look around like-

Install a THEME- Look around for some good theme according to your niche, you can find them in the theme section of your dashboard, there are plenty of options available there, most of them are free as well.

Config your Theme- Start configuring your themes, create different pages according to your service, product or blog. If you're not aware of how to do that, you can do some research on google or you can hire someone who can do that for you.

Start uploading CONTENT- Once you have configured your theme, start uploading content depending on your niche.

Speed test- Check your site load time, if it high, start to look around for the reasons for that & start working on it to reduce your site's load time.

These are some general advice which is coming in my mind right now, there're still plenty of things which are remaining, you can google them & start working on it.

What do you mean by "configure a wordpress site"? Are we talking Page load speed? Mobile optimization?

To startup your own wordpress website, you would need to buy a hosting service and a domain name. You can then install WordPress to your server and start adding content. Choose a theme from a the web (free or premium) that will suit your niche. Wordpres is a free and user-friendly conntent management system.

A hosting service would cost you for as low as $3 per month and a domain name for as low as $8. I would suggest using Namecheap as they come with hosting, domain name, webmail and control panel in one place.

    Hi Al Burraq,
You can better choose your hosting which can ease your job to configure CMS on server.
Today hosting provider like 1&1 or Godaddy provide Softaculous or CGI scripts that manage entire efforts on single click.

I am assuming you are trying to get started with WordPress. You should try to explore and read the WordPress.org documentation, or hire someone who knows WordPress.
