You have to go where your ideal prospects are "hanging out" and reach out to them there.

Is it forums? Is it social media? Direct mail?

It really depends on the type of business. Not all advertising channels work for all types of business models. For the most part if you have the budget for it, your safest bet would usually search PPC, because then you know prospects are actually looking for the service or product you are offering

The very first thing is to give some exposure using free network...or you can go with paid ads as well....Here is how to do it for free and get some flavor of sale..

Just join some related facebook group and post it their. Same you can do with other social media site as well...

While building an email list is a good idea, it is not advertising. You advertise to build your list. The traffic you get from your list has already responded to your ads at least once.

In case you and other readers wonder what Meetup is, you can do a Google search for it.

It solely depends on what type of business you have. If you are doing business online and looking to target customers from around the world. Then Internet marketing is best for you. Well, it depends on what business are you in. There's a lot of place you can advertise in. For B2B businesses, place like Linkedin, Google Adwords, or even Craigslist could be your choice. For B2C, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram is a good platform to advertise with.

My suggestion is to go with a platform at a time. Don't try to do all of this simultaneously. Mater one traffic source before you move on to other sources. And test with a small budget first, before you put all of your money into it.

There is only one type of advertising ANY business should use: DIRECT RESPONSE. This is when you advertise to get a person to do something specific, such as call a toll-free number, visit your website or come to your store.

You can do direct response advertising online or offline. Personally, I like direct mail the most, because you can target your audience and get something in their HANDS.

Online advertising works, but it has less stickability and a shorter shelf-life. Just my two cents.

You didn't say what kind of business. Many people think that right off the bat they need a website. Maybe, maybe not. Print advertising and offering services on the big free site can be as effective as anything else and cheaper by a long shot.
