Why are active users on site not going beyond 100 in Google analytics's real-time stats?

I wish to investigate what could be the max value of "active users on site" under the Real-time Google Analytics for my site. I'm asking this question because I found this value not exceeding "100" after closely monitoring the GA stats for last many days.
I also checked the server logs and found no database or site access errors. Is this "100" some limitation set by the host and if it is then why there are no errors in the server logs upon breaching this limit? And how would I ascertain that I'm losing traffic (as unable to go beyond 100) because of such a limitation? Kindly suggest.

I think there is no default limit of 100 real-time users on google analytics.

It might be an issue with your hosting.
