I'm just wondering if anyone can help me with a strategy for initial customers. I started a classic car trading site, Revlane.com to peruse my passion. I'm having trouble getting initial customers. I tried reaching out to dealerships, but most dealers use specialized software which publishes their listing across other sites. I tried to reach out to those vendors but they would need a dealer to ask for my site to work with me, So a bit of a viscious circle there.

Ideally I would really like car enthusiasts to use my site but other than purchasing a brand vehicle to take to shows I'm not sure what would be the best way to reach and convert initial customers.

I would really appreciate some advice from anyone that has build something from scratch.

You might have been better off first pursuing a business plan. You should determine where your traffic will come from, first. "Passion" is great but it sucks at paying the bills.

I would like for most of my traffic to come from searches for classic cars that are for sale as well searches for professional restoration and shipping professionals.

  • If you have good content for your niche, you may want to consider starting a blog to attract organic traffic. Also, you can use FB page and FB group to get more members and followers that have the same interest.

I did start a blog and working on articles there, also will most likely start a youtube channel.

I was thinking of possibly purchasing a classic car that I could take to shows with my logo on it, but i'm weighing out if it would be better to spend the money on the car or on facebook ads. Which do you think would produce more long term results?

      Thanks in advance

Have you tired any paid traffic yet?

Also what is your main target customer? Are you targeting individuals who have a car to sell or both dealers and private sellers like most other auto marketplace sites?

I'm not sure what the benefits are of paid traffic?

My target customer is anyone that wants to sell or buy a classic car(dealer or individual buyer, but the process is geared more towards individuals and collectors) or a professional restorer or shipper as I'm also building a network of vendors on the site as well.

this excellent opportunity for you,you can directly access and upload all data from their database to your website database.you just need to develop a tools to integrate your site. You just make strategy what kind of customer do you want and deploy it your website.

You pursued "Revlane.com" as a passion, but did you check to see if the niche existed first? Is there a place online right now that you can go to without thought, and immediately get leads for your website? Something tells me that maybe you created the product first and are now looking for somebody to sell on your site.... instead of finding the people first who have this desire, then creating the site for them. Passion and a starving crowd are 2 totally different things. One can make you profitable, and one can make you broke as hell.

Start a facebook group and youtube channel for classic cars and promote joins to the group with great sharable viral content - get the viewers to sign up to your mailing list/newsletter - and in the newsletter promote your site. Its a bit round-robin and setup work but the other way is paying for traffic. You really need a comprehensive traffic generation plan.
