What's the law in the US re joining an affiliate marketing programme?

I am in the UK, so am interested to know so I am covered... in the US say you buy into an affiliate programme should you always been given sight of the terms and conditions before handing over any money?

It's just that I have been on a telephone sales call and been given a very enticing offer for joining an affiliate marketing programme (basically driving people to this person's funnels so no need to create websites or anything - just use their resources). But I thought I better not just make a credit card payment there and then (had to really force myself not to as it sounds so good)

But now thought better do some due diligence - and thinking about it I was about to pay a substantial amount ($5k) without any literature about the programme and without site of any terms and conditions... and also now I realise wasn't even told if there was a money back within 14/30 days if I wasn't happy..

Does this sound ok?

I am a newbie and keen to make a living off the internet

    On the off-chance that this is a serious post, let me just say that it's unwise to pay for anything over the phone without knowing who you're paying or what terms apply. For the kind of sum you mention, it would be madness.

    Forget about international laws and just use a bit of common sense.

    Yes you should. You're on the verge of getting ripped off. To join most affiliate networks are FREE. They need people to send them traffic so they can make money. I experienced an enticing offer like this a couple of years ago. Once I started to call out my doubts, they started to use pressure sales to get me to commit. For me it was an $8k offer, and there is no amount of money like that worth spending unless you have 100% confidence you will get the money back. I would assume once they have the money, if they don't vanish, they'll send you a basic package that is automated so they don't have to do work and you won't get the help you need. STAY AWAY!

    Why do so many of these posts, look like, smell like, a paid forum poster just posting sheite to gain some traction on this forum. I would add 2 lumps of cocky sheite to this story for a sweetener. anyone with no braincells could see it's crap. Pay 5K for a option to send to a pre pop site, no work ? lay back and get rich, your pissin in the wind.

    ....because so many are exactly that and not all who approved threads 'get it'....oh well, provides some entertainment value, I guess.


    Basic reality: If your goal is to 'make a living' - spending thousands is probably not the best way to do it. When you are buying, you are a 'customer', not a marketer.


    I try to give good explanations in writing here but in person my comment would have been "can you spell 'duh'".... in writing, that seems rude...
