Re-marketing company after some idle period

Hi,
I'm the president of a small Internet security company here in New Jersey. We've been around for a number of years, but haven't done much with the press and marketing of our products. We've been out of the consciousness of people in our industry. We've been focusing on our customers and organic growth through referrals.

Now we wish to reach out to the press in our industry and start to bring in new business.

The problem is how what to say to press people in our industry to explain the reason for our marketing push.

How can we make people aware of our business and products when we have nothing new to announce and aren't a new company? How can we create buzz for a product that's new to our audience, but not itself new?

It might be worth re-vamping your most popular product and releasing a new and improved version.

Or if you can identify some need your company is uniquely qualified to answer, then you could still promote your company as the solution to this problem - wanting to reach and help more people. That you are established would help your credibility.

I am going to throw a bit of a curve ball at you. I would ask that you go within your organization and actually go as deep as actual people working for you, their spouses and their kids.. to find the person or better yet a group of people with the most Instagram followers.

when you create this meeting, I want you have an extremely open mind.. and set the environment of this meeting to a level of open communication... ANYTHING can be said.

the reason I ask this.. I don't want it to be just me, that is about to say what I am going to say.

I can tell by the tone of your writing.. you are older, probably in your late 40's early 50's if not older. You believe that advertising is something that is done for you, and NOT done BY you. Times have changed. In 2019 you don't seek the media's help, they find you.

I don't know the specifics of what you do exactly... but my mind races with possibilities of content that could be shared, that would put you on the map "again". ever head of a state of the internet report? is this something you could create on a weekly basis? Do you deal with specific industries or client bases? can you create content that keeps them up to date on the threats and trends?

You are the middle man between what could be a life changing / business changing threat and success. THAT is a big deal in TODAYS economy. Your business needs to incorporate communication directly through social media. and this is specifically what you will hear with the company meeting of the minds. Simply put.. you are out of touch with the current marketing environment.

Understand what you need to do... understand what you can do ( in creating content ) and create criteria in finding the person or organization to make this happen for you. Your business revolves around the "Internet" and now its time to actually bring THAT strength full circle and communicate on said environment.

    Hope that Helps!

  • You have to re-invent yourself. Create packages and bundles. Help people save money by offering deals. Re-activate past customers with discounted offers that aren't highly popular on the sales sheet at the end of the month. The bottom line is just to get creative. And for a twist in things, send out a simple postcard (with a unique offer) to give people the feeling that you are "real", and that they "finally" met you in person for the first time.
