I've noticed something interesting with my blog traffic. I seem to get more traffic from the search engines at night than during the day. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to post at night?

Thanx

It definitely could help, but a lot of people will say timing isn't everything and being consistent is more important.

Why it would be a bad thing? In your place its may be night but at the opposite end of the globe its day. Earth is not flat.

  • Kayme,

Yeah, it's a good idea to factor in time of inbound traffic spikes.
But it's more important to also take note of the following:

    1. Traffic Sources -- Domains and pages where large portions of your inbound traffic is coming from; and

    2. Originating Geos -- Countries, states, cities and towns where large portions of your inbound traffic is based ...

That's because of the following reasons:

    1. By regularly going to the domains and pages that many of them are coming from -- You can dig deeper and learn about the exact things that your ideal audience is interested in at the moment, aside from having a list of digital properties where you can reach your ideal audience and strategically position your brand by advertising and organically participating in relevant discussions across those places and apps;

    2. By knowing where many of your ideal viewers are based -- You'll be able to spice up the captivating, enticing and compelling qualities of your blog content, opt-ins, premium offers and organic social participation across relevant places and apps because you can pinpoint the hottest news stories, the most meaningful topics of conversation and the most wildly popular products in the countries / places where many of them are currently based; and

    3. By knowing the time where many of your ideal viewers are actively searching / viewing / sharing relevant content and participating / using those places and apps -- You can align your publishing, advertising, support initiatives and organic participation in your own Web properties and also across those most significant places and apps ...

    Hope this helps!

You don't necessarily have to publish in realtime

You can schedule your materials to get published ahead of time

What's important is you continue to study your audience's content consumption habits

It won't change anything because the traffic comes from search engines. They're not your regular visitors who check your site every day to see new articles, thus they're not eager to see that the last post was published 20 minutes ago.

Unless we live in a world where instant gratification is the norm.

Let's say a group of strangers are at the mall.
They're looking for the latest and greatest Sony smart TV.

That's their purpose. That's what they want.

But they have a lot of questions.
And they're unsure about a lot of things.

Though they badly want that Sony smart TV.
And they don't have a lot of time.

So now, how would many of them likely to respond when they see someone handing out flyers about an irresistible discount offer for that exact Sony smart TV?

But what if they just see the flyers?
      Remember, instant gratification.

And keep in mind, they're at the mall.
Lots of shops are likely to be selling the latest and greatest smart TVs there.

Plus, they have sales agents who can quickly and conveniently answer all their questions.
Money will exchange hands. Not later. But now.

So what's the price of instant gratification today?
What would many of them likely choose?

Option 1. A $25 discount when they call the number on the flyer, look for and go to their shop; or

Option 2. Take a few steps towards a $10 discount and instant gratification to go with it?

When it comes to blogging, content is king. I wouldn't worry too much about timing. Even a seemingly old and buried article may experience a revival when you least expect it and without any particular effort from you. My two cents worth.

It doesn't matter whether you post your content in the day or in the night. All you need to be worried about is producing the best content you can whenever you post to your website. Do this and you will be getting traffic for a lifetime.

The time of day that you get your traffic isn't a big factor however it may be a sign that your content is ranking in other locations around the world.

Depending on what the content is about, you may or may not be getting a benefit from other countries finding you.

genius! Do it for a month and see what happens, on try to split and post some stories at night and some at day, and check which received more traffic.

It doesn't matter what time of day you post. Just because you post in the evening has nothing to do with the time people read your post.

Just be consistent with your posts and make sure to 'serve' your readers!

The best thing to do is try it out a few times consistently and see what happens over time. Did it improve, stay the same, or get worse....

It is not about getting more traffic from the search engines at night
it is about your target geographic , in simple words what countries are bringing traffic to you

you should have a fair amount of traffic from US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand to be able to make some sales

Why not post both times? That's not possible maybe, but as everyone said. Being consistent is the key.

You need content that people keep coming back to.

    Umm...

Posting on your blog at night does not ensure that the Search Engine spiders will actually crawl your blog at night.

And even if you are lucky enough for this to happen (since Google crawls Authority Blogs first) this won't mean they'll index your post right away.

The activity of your audience will surely differ so it's not such a bad idea to use this as your advantage since you already know what time works best. However, it will still depend mostly on your consistency that where you will get solid results.
