What's the best way to advertise my SaaS website?

Hi, I'm a web developer, I created a website called Vendor Bookings, and I can use some (a lot haha) of marketing advise. I can program, that certainly isn't an issue, I can come up with an idea and make it work no problem. The thing is, I have very little experience marketing a product. Here's the two sentence summary of what it is:

It's for event service providers (DJ's, photographers, photo booths, etc...) to help manage their clientele for parties. It automates sending emails, gathering information, processing payments, so the vendor doesn't have to.

The issue I have is most of my target audience doesn't realize how beneficial this kind of product is, in other words, they're not actively looking for it. So things like google Adwords, magazines, cold calls, don't really work. They need to be shown. When I do actually get a chance to show someone, they are all about it, they see the potential immediately.

So I guess my question is what are some effective methods to market my product?

  • Vandel212,

So you're the Amazon (or Shopify if you want to tone it down a bit) of event service providers; and
-- Now you want to reach out to your ideal audience of event service providers to populate your marketplace.

    Well, it goes two ways.
    • More event service providers (let's call them group A) will join your marketplace if there are lots of shoppers there; and
    • Meanwhile, more shoppers (let's call them group B) will regularly go to your marketplace and talk about it across their own peer groups when they find it more convenient to do their shopping at your marketplace, have a lot of options and more so when the event service providers in your marketplace offer top quality services at reasonable prices.

Now you initially need starters from group A and group B; and
-- I suggest you niche down and focus on a smaller sub set of group A and group B, based on your available time and budget.

So where can you find smaller sub sets of group A?
    • I believe a lot of them are advertising their services in certain Facebook and LinkedIn groups, Web forums and online communities for parents, corporate team builders and management staff, fraterneties or sororities and grassroots socio-politico organizations among other community-based groups; and
    • You can niche down by zoning in on say communities for young parents or single parents or so in X town / city / state, small to medium-scale businesses that specialize in niche service industries of X town / city / state, frats and soros of schools and universities or grassroots socio-politico organizations and alliances in X town / city / state and so on (you get my point).

But what else can you offer that can compel them to join your marketplace as an early seller?
    • Say exclusive subscriptions (lifetime-free or free for X months) with much lower payment processing fees and free monthly advertising credits for featuring their services over others across the marketplace and through your email updates and newsletters for your shoppers; and
    • An exclusive affiliate account that allows them to earn a much higher commission percentage of your profits from processing sales of event service providers they refer to join your marketplace.

Note: You must clearly communicate to them your value propositions through your organic content and paid ads in those communities, enough to grab their attention, entice them to take a closer look and feel compelled to take your offers.

And now where can you find a smaller sub set of group B?
    • The communities mentioned above are likely to be good places to reach them; and
    • So you should develop your organic content and paid ads for those communities in ways that can also inform this group about the beneficial advantages offered by your marketplace for their relevant shopping concerns.

Again, what else can you offer this group as early shoppers at your marketplace?
    • For the first X months or so of an exclusive subscription, say monthly discount credits for the services they need?; and
    • An affiliate account where they can earn discount credits and much higher commision percentages of your profits from sales you process for their referred shoppers?

Note: Your objective is to captivate, entice and compel them to join, and to make it quick and easy for them to share and talk about your marketplace across their own peer groups (either just because they want to, or because they want to earn commissions and discount credits) ...

Well, I believe you'll have even better, more organized ideas when you sit down and consider these starter possibilities.
    Hope this helps!

You can try creating informative videos in facebook, Instagram and youtube. Instead of just regular ads, with videos they may be able to see it's real value.

Presence is the most important thing, so be present in different platforms to show you are an expert on your field. You should also blogging, tweeting, lecturing, posting and speaking about your website. Platforms like Quora and Reddit are quite good for this!
Build a good referral system. So you are not directly marketing the product but your customers are.
    And invest in sale process.

These are all fantasic ideas! Thank you! I do have a question, how do I advertise on Facebook and target businesses? For example Wedding DJ's and Photographers would be the most marketable people. I cannot seem to figure out how to target just them. I can target normal facebook users, but not businesses.

    • 1. Many of those service providers likely have their own Facebook pages. Lots of them are probably page admins. Especially since a considerable number of them are likely freelancers and one-man operations.
      >> So you can target Facebook business page admins. That's through the "detailed targeting" section at Facebook ads business manager.

      2. If the business owners read a particular magazine that has a large readership, you can
Identify magazines and online publications that are read by significant numbers of your target service providers.
      >> Search for those at Facebook ads manager. Include in your targeting people who express an interest in those publications.

      3. Use job titles for your targeting.
      >> Use job titles to search. Use multiple job titles. Click "expand interest" to find more people with job titles similar to what you want to target. Someone with a videography business might use "founder", "proprietor", "president" or other similar titles.

      4. Supplement your efforts by using remarketing.
      >> This way, people who have already landed on your site in the past, perhaps organically or through your Facebook ads, will see your ads when they're spending time in Facebook.

      5. Create lookalike audiences.
      >> Once you're getting significant traffic, you can do this so Facebook will automatically find similar people and include them in your ad targeting parameters.

What type of Google Ads did you try? There are several different types and for this type of product where your audience isn't even aware of their problem and therefore aren't actively looking for the solution, I'd try Google Display Ads or maybe Youtube Ads. This way you can advertise to a particular audience based on interests and not on specific keywords they're typing in.

With that said, I believe Google Search Ads can still work but you're probably just not targeting the right keywords or taking the right approach.

Based off what you've said it sounds like the best way to promote your product would be by creating videos and uploading them to youtube, then using paid facebook ads and instagram to get the videos in front of potential customers. If you haven't done so already then creating your own facebook, twitter, and instagram presence would be important as well so that you'll be able to generate organic traffic later on.

The best way according to me is by creating videos about your product and advertise it via ppc.
