I have been trying to finish writing a book on a certain site, but other work keeps getting in the way.

I have been checking the site recently, and there are a few IMers using it, but not as efficently as they could. The "how" is very easy to do once you've done it once, but the "why" is totally different.

I have read a couple of books on the subject, but the "why" is missing. I know that people read the results you can get, and dive in feet first, and end up missing out big time.

The question is would a course be better, which would teach all the reasons "why" you should do certain things, as well as the how.

Also would a book purely on the why be useful, because once you understand the why, the sky is the limit in terms of what you can use the site for?

  • Well, the way you can present in your writing, Bev, I think either one is okay. I might like reading "why" if you can paint a better picture of "why" I should be doing certain things.

There are many things new in IM world that has been always done in non-IM world, but someone denominating clearly "why" for the first time in IM world often becomes the "inventor" of such ideas.

It's always exciting to see people introducing different perspective on an existing idea instead of discovering something completely new.

In fact, if your "why" happens to challenge a conventional idea, then it'd be more interesting to read, personally.

Then you could always explain "why" in a pre-sell report, while explaining "how" in the paid product - you can never go wrong with that.
  • Bev, here's my view. It's coming from someone who considers himself a student still, even though the ink in the diploma is over twenty years old and the acceptance letter over thirty...

One of my favorite TV programs is "Good Eats" on the Food Network. The host, Alton Brown, will show you precisely how to create a dish. As he does, he goes into the science behind why a certain combination of ingredients does what it does.

From a purely selfish point of view, I'd want you to create the 'purely why' version. Without the numbers, most people wouldn't attempt the painting at all. Thus leaving the rewards for those who will put in the effort to own a process.

From a commercial viewpoint, I'd say create the course with the combination of how-to and why.
  • Bev,

it's always been my view that it's easier to learn "in context"
so I would go for the "why" as well as the "how"

    i.e.

This is how you ________, this works because __________.

Works for me every time, and it makes the lessons easier to
    remember too.

    • Thanks, that is the way I am thinking. I know too many have jumped in with the how because it is easy to do.

Let's put it this way without trying to say too much. Many have missed the why, and their results at best is around 100 views, with the why, I have had over 2,000 views. Not all have been successful, but I have been able to look and see which part of the why was missing.

John, you got it. Most don't look at the why, and so they miss it leaving it for us who do it.

Takuya, thanks because I should look at why people are only doing the how and missing the bigger picture.

Karl thanks, I am still working on the best way. J

Just need to get it finished now.

  • Hi Bev,

Do You have a lot of case studies of others who have used YOUR methods to profit from? If so you could offer it in an in dept course (with audio and/or video)? Be different than the standard issue ebook.
  • Hi Bev,

Considering people want to purchase the how tos mainly, I would suggest going that way, and add the whys in as you go.
