How do you protect download links to a product?

If you create an ebook product and want to sell it on your website (I'm using WordPress), what is the best way to deliver that content without it being hacked or easily accessed by search engines or others?

Anyone can buy your product, download it, and then copy it and make it their own.

There is no way to protect it.

It's not like it has a PATENT on it.

This! I know Gumroad will stamp the customer's info on your PDF which helps to deter piracy but at the end of the day people who want to pirate your ebook will. IMO those people would've never bought your ebook to begin with though so you're not out anything there.

Put it in a directory that is password protected.

When someone clicks the download link, they will have to first enter a username / password before it will start downloading.

Protection of data on-site isn't about piracy.

    It's about privacy.

  • Hi,
you can disable download option so that no one can download it.

But, if you want to give these benefits to paid members then you can share paid package for downloading it.

You don't (although there are ways like publishing on *.exe).

Make sure you have a GREAT UPSELL inside the book that
improves the customer experience and pays you the big bucks.

I was distributing a program locked in *.exe and automatically
unlocked after the customer completed the payment.

    0% piracy!

There are a few payment gateways that you can use that stores your product for you instead of on your server. Once your customers purchases the product, you can set how long the product will be available for them to download.

Some of these gateways also have a custom print on each download. So in the event someone shares your product online, it can be traced back to the original person.

    Some example are: dlguard, paykickstart

    Hope that helps.

There's not much you can do about it.
Once someone has bought it they can do what they like with it - copy it, put it on doc sharing sites etc.
It's not worth worrying about to be honest.
If the content is valuable, you will sell enough.

    Hey !

    Great question.

I wouldn't worry about it before you're making 6 figures per year.

Before that, it's like worrying of road-turn miles ahead. Just worry about it when you're on the road-turn or a couple hundreds yards before.

Worry is energy and if you want to build something, build it before worrying of people stealing it. Trust me, I felt the same way.

If you build something of value, people will steal. At that point, u'll have enough money to get lawyers or stuff.

Just don't waste energy thinking about something that might never happen and if it does, u'll learn from it and it wont kill the business.
