Why some Big Brands do not have a Blog?

I am just wondering why some big brands such as Nike, Addidas luluemon do not have a blog?

I am building small fitness brand? Should I build a blog to increase awarness and maybe some side income from affiliate links?

    They don't need blogs because they prefer to pay celebrities to wear their clothes.

    As a small business brand, you have the opportunity to grow a much closer relationship with your audience by having a blog.

    This is certainly an advantage that you could use.

      I agree with you right there. Celebrities have a much greater reach than having blogs written about their products. It's true that they pay major celebrities millions of dollars for product endorsements but the ROI is considerably greater compared to the amount they're paying those celebrities.

    Today. Most Blogs are just websites built on a blogging format. I would say less than half of all "Blogs" are actually blogs. With that said Nike, for example, has a website with everything one would put on a blog today. If that site was built on wordpress people would say. "They have a blog"

      Personally, I would rather see things in print I.e. a blog because I can read in less than a minute what takes many minutes of blah blah blah in the average video.....

    Yes, you should...IF you are good at writing AND enjoy it. There are many reasons people build a blog, but you mention 2 of the bigger reasons: 1. Build awareness and 2. Make money.

    Big companies are already very well known. They don't need a blog to build further awareness about their brand or to command authority in their niche. They also make a LOT of money in many other ways...a lot more than most people make from monetizing their blogs.

    It just isn't a good use of their time to write a blog. Having said that, Al is correct in that most information or articles on their websites would be the exact same as a blog post. They're just using their website as the platform instead of a blogging site.

    I think this should be re-worded to say: ....they can AFFORD to pay celebrities to wear their clothes or promote their products.

    Blogging is free, so I think they would PREFER to blog IF it was as effective as merchandising deals.

    Lululemon actually does have a bit of a "blog". I realize this is splitting hairs but just to make the point that some of them actually do. Lululemon has also actually started posting short informational videos and interviews with some of heir ambassadors. So some of the big companies DO post blog articles and you definitely should to. Blog posts can help you utilize social media platforms like pinterest.

    Big brands do not do blogging because they are already shaking up the market. Blogging creates awareness, they are already on the top on that point. Instead of blogging, they use better advertising techniques which people above have mentioned.

    If you are starting a new brand, you have to create its awareness. Along with awareness, you also need traffic. SEO blogs are meant to get traffic. Nobody reads the whole content but it helps you to rank on Google.

    They don't need a blog. It's enough a couple of media persons who will show their products.
    It makes sense to make a blog if you post unique content.

    Hey amro, The reason the likes of Nike and Adidas don't bother with blogs is simply because, why the hell would they?

    They are literally making money hand over fist and don't see a need for it, which is understandable. They put most of their efforts to make their brand visible into media related advertising, such as a really good ad you will see on the television with Tiger Woods or Serena Williams or whoever it may be. That will have waaaay more influence on the audience than a blog will (At this stage of their brand) because you will see that ad you will either go online and buy the product they are promoting or you will get it in your local sports store which is another thing.. they have every sports store in the world holding their products so sales are crazy high all the time with minimal decline.

    In terms of you with your brand, YES 100% get on the blog hype and start driving traffic to it whether it be free or paid. Look your only starting out and a blog would be super helpful for you right now to help get you some sales, you can link straight back to your store and thats another form of traffic to the store in itself.

    I have tried alot of things in my time IM but the one i "enjoy" the most is creating blogs because you do not have to break the bank with them and traffic is relatively easy enough once you choose your paths and get the hang of it!

    I have a blog in my signature if you care to look at it, it takes you step by step through all things related to start a blog.. if not i recommend you do your research on youtube or google and get cracking with it asap.

    They don't blog because they just do paid advertising. It's just not part of their marketing strategy to blog and if they can afford to advertise then all the power to them.

    You should definitely blog unless you have the same kind of ad budget they do.

    That's an interesting observation. I wonder if they would benefit from building a blog...

    You should build a blog though. Nike and Adidas probably spend millions on ads so they can certainly afford not to have a blog. You would probaly benefit from ads as well, but a blog can be a huge ROI if you're still a small brand.

    A lot of the big brands don't have blogs they have e-commerce sites (Home Depot,Lowes,Walmart,etc).

    News sites like Espn.com and Cnn.com are built on blogging platforms because they publish content everyday.

    Big brands don't need to have a blog. The purpose of a blog is to make the person and business writing the blog relevant. In other words, to be a authority figure in such area. Big brands are already authority figures in their market. Nevertheless, it does not mean that they can't have a blog. If they want to partake information to their costumers through a blog then
    they can chose to do it. But, and I assure you, it will not to make them be relevant to its readers or potential customers.

    You, on the hand, since you will be starting out and be unknown, the having a blog would be a great social media tool to use to get the name of your brand out there. I hope that helps!

    A large brand such as Microsoft run their own blog (https://blogs.microsoft.com), which will spur further discussions about whether or not large brands need to maintain their own so it really depends on a brand's marketing direction and the like.

    I've read the responses and I agree with the majority. Big names don't need to blog for the mere purpose of their name is already out there. Blogging generates search engine results and quite frankly the big names don't need it. They did their share of paid advertising rather than blogging.

    they don't have blogs but hey do have websites. You can build a blog if you want you can make income generating traffic to your blog but you can promote your brand just through Instagram.

    Big brands don't waste time and money in blogging.

    They prefer celebrities and videos ads for quick sales. As they are already brand, they get heavy sales in no time with celebrities and Video ADS.

    There is a big difference between Nike, Adidas, and modern startups. The two build their brands many years ago when blogs were nonexistent. So, blogs will not add any value on what they do. Second, they have the resources they need to use the more extensive methods of keeping the brand alive.

      Yes, I agree with you. They are doing things in a different way. Use celebrities who get them more traffic than they would get from a blog. So they don't need the blog.

    Sure. You can benefit from a blog greatly. Just because someone similar in your niche doesn't do a particular marketing strategy - it doesn't mean that YOU dont have to do it either. The main thing is making sure your advertising dollars are accountable and that you know your numbers. Having a blog gives you a new angle when penetrating into the marketplace.

    Are you asking why they aren't a blog website, or why they don't have a blog? I would think that big brand names don't have to have one because of name recognition, it's also the same reason they can advertise by just taking out big color ads on TV and in Magazines that just look pretty and don't have to do anything but be in front of an reading or viewing audience.
