Maybe I'm doing this backwards

I have two domains. I have one domain with a review site on it, then the second domain i have a blog which is about my interests and is kind of a website that people interested in me, can learn about stuff about the topics I write about. I want to redo my whole website on my review site, but right now I'm mostly concentrating on my blog about myself. (I'll call it my personal blog).

my plans for my personal blog are to fill it with great content about fitness, marketing, writing. etc. things that interest me, but I'll make it so people who are interested in those things can learn a lot more about it. So take fitness, they will find great content on staying fit.

Amongst all this good content I of course would recommend some products, and if I get enough visitors I would probably start my own products.

I would also keep the content organized so people can click on the links and find the information they are looking for easily.

Now I'm thinking that it's going to be hard to really get a lot of traffic to this site because of the wide variety of topics it covers. it's not going to be a niche specific site.

So should I just make it a blog for my own purposes, and not focus on trying to monetize it, and focus on my review site instead, driving all the traffic there. Or do most marketers out there have a kind of headquarters blog.

      Thorick,

Many people have personal blogs but have a theme around them. For instance, you could be an accountant an offer tips but still share things that are going on with you personally, you can be a fitness trainer and offer fitness tips but share things that are going on in your personal life. See where I am going with this. You can still have a personal blog but it should be themed around a focus that you either do or have knowledge in. It will be much easier to create your products this way also.

I wouldn't look too much at what most marketers do because most marketers may not be doing it right and they are not you. The most successful bloggers create content because it interest them not others. It just so happens that people who read the content can relate to it and become a follower.

Summary--> Focus on things you like to do or things that interest you and create your blog around that theme. People with similar interest will eventually seek you out from the content posted on your blog.

Hope this gives you some clarity.

First, your signature link goes to an error page, not a site or blog.

I haven't seen your personal blog but my reaction to such blogs is "yawn" because they are self focused "about me". They can be fun to do because we love to talk about ourselves and our likes and activities.

It's like an email from a marketer whose list I'm on - telling me all the details of his vacation. You had to be there - and I wasn't.

Customers online want us to talk about them and their needs - it's a big disconnect for a "personal" blog.

Split 'em up into several blogs, tightly focused. If that seems too overwhelming pick your favorite niche and blog about that, and then you can twitter about all your other stuff if you really want to share

      Directory Listing Denied

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

      Hmm, never got that before.

Anyway, I just had a sit down with myself about this whole thing not long ago, and yes, LOL, it needs to be separate.

I am using a free wordpress blog for the personal me me me stuff, as I can't "sell" on it anyway, but there is a link to my primary site if someone does decide to go further.
