I think it depends on what you are promoting. The know, like, trust and provide value is not always required. My core business is promoting PPL (pay per lead) offers. So I'm not trying to get users to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversions rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require you to make a sale and without all the extra work that goes with promoting sales offers.

People have a problem that they want resolved and are not willing to spend hours online or offline to find a solution. When you promote something, you are solving a problem for them right there and then and are earning a commission.

Affiliate marketers are not there to make new friends. They are passionate about MAKING MONEY.

Add value, help people and then promote your product that can help them to solve a problem / achieve something.

  • Good points.

Here's the deal: If I have a headache, I don't need to be buttered up first before you offer me the pill. My head needs attention right now. No need to educate me or give me '10 reasons I need pain relief', right?

Just sell me the damn pain killer.

However - and I think this is where you are coming from with your post - if you are selling me on how your INFORMATION product can help me make money online, I'm not going to buy from you straight away unless you can demonstrate that you have my best interests at heart, and that you aren't just out to take my money.

You either have to demonstrate with social proof, or by giving me upfront value ( demonstration of your competence) before I can trust you.

Everyone claims their product can solve my problem - but they can't all be telling the truth, right?

So yes, giving upfront value, especially with information products, is a way to demonstrate that you know what you're talking about, and the very least, you have MY best interests at heart.

RISK is always the biggest obstacle to the sale. The more RISK you eliminate, the better chance you have of getting people to buy.
