High quality content is lacking
Many titles appear to be clickbait
Comment boxes have vanished
Back when I first joined this forum I learned a lot of things about building websites. Content was King. Social media was quickly on the rise but the high quality stuff was on your website. Landing pages were very long indeed. Quality traffic was gained through sound backlinking strategies. There was almost always the option to comment after someone's writing.
I've noticed this no longer seems to be the case. Is this due to a large percentage of mobile device viewing? Perhaps the accumulation of apps as well?
People still write compelling titles. Yet I find that most of the content I'm reading is garbage, for lack of a better word. Content is too short or doesn't always discuss the title at hand. This is content recommended by google or on page 1 of a search result. Is clickbait the next big thing? Is it that easy to manipulate the search engines and rank higher?
Furthermore, most of the blogs I've been seeing lack a comment box. If I want more information or feel the desire to debate a topic I cannot do so and am left feeling like my time has been wasted. I read that blogs do it to cut down on spam but there are several ways to prevent spam on a blog. Could it be that there's no option to comment because they knew the content wasn't great?
I realize commenters are always great but taking away the option takes away the discussion. Yeah it can be talked about on social media, but then you have less blog traffic. I'm thinking maybe content is dead you guys.
I have one personal example. I wrote content 10-12 years ago. I tried to write unique, and quality content that answered a question or discussed a topic. I thought some writings were quite compelling. All that stuff is gone today. However, I wrote a few things for fun on Hubpages, which is still around. The one that gets the most traffic (currently rising) is about 200 odd facts that people don't know.
200 odd facts! Really useless information. This is what people want to read about most these days?? I guess high quality content and discussion doesn't matter much anymore.
Hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe results are manipulated. Maybe I just don't seem to find the right websites. Maybe websites just can't get away from spam.
Or maybe clickbait is king and useless information its servants.
Help me be optimistic here.
