How would you proceed to have conversion rate from 0.5% to 1% ?

Hi!

I'm going straight on: what will be the first (the main) thing you would do if you wanted to improve your Sessions to Orders converion rate to grow from 0.5% to 1% if you had ecommerse/retail website.

If you could do only one thing what it would be?

CHeers and happy 4th of july!

It might be helpful to know what you are currently doing. How are you getting traffic to your website currently? Are you running any advertisements?

Hi! I'm selling digital/info products at the low end 10$ - 100$. Five different products in total. It is in a non-english language market. Small European country. Traffic is mainly google organic and direct since the website is on for more than 10 years. I have also an email sequence of about 50 email followups with content after they get the lead magnet.

      Thanks

I would want to look at my metrics first. What is my bounce rate, where on my site are people spending their time. It could be something as simple as the placement of your order form or an image. Many things to consider before I would make a change.

Put together some kind of limited-time offer.

Being someone that does CRO ( Conversion Rate Optimization ) for a living I am going to let you in on a secret... .5 to 1% is a goal in itself and I respect that... but you need to be looking big picture an e-commerce today a about average is 3% at a MINIMUM and there are sites that pump double digits like its their job ( and it is )

I can tell you right now the biggest hurdle you are dealing with is 2 fold. #1 It is going to be TRUST, as in the person on the buying end of the transaction TRUSTING to spend money with you.

#2 would be USP ( Unique Selling Perspective ) I can tell by just what you have said here it is not hitting on all cylinders. Be it free shipping or free returns, or authentic or whatever it may be.. you need to look at sites just like yours to understand their USP's and determine how you can be just that much different. Hence "Unique". Ships from the States... or 3 day shipping guaranteed or whatever it is to make you "Unique" in your market space.

    Best of luck

Savidged is right. Seems he always is.

While addressing trust and unique proposition, take it a bit further:
Reduce the discrepancy between what your visitors expect to find on your site and your selling process and what they actually find.

Figuring out the trust and unique proposition will take you far towards doing that. There are other things you can do, which, without more details I cannot address.

Here is a short list from my experience:
Changing words in the copy from lots of "we" to lots of "you"

Adding a testimonial on the checkout page

        Changing the offer

        Adding more ways to pay

Adding clarity as to what happens after they click the pay now button.

Focus on using the right keywords. This will help you get targeted traffic to your website. It's called Search Engine Optimization

Start finding more ways to boost my email subscriber list, and do more backend marketing to my current customer base.

That is always almost a certain way to achieve the objective. Thank you.

What in your opinion should be the conversion % of overall sessions of the website to email subscribers for a given period?

Put simply: if for the given period I had 5000 overall sessions of the whole website, and I have aquired 50 subscribers in my mailing list, that means I have 1% conversion.

What kind of result is that: poor, average, good, excellent, outstanding?

      Regards!

Website is a blog with articles, thus traffic is mainly Organic Search. A bit social too. No paid ads for the moment. The lead magnet to get them to opt-in is a newsletter serries and an instant download PDF ebook.

Make a great free opt-in offer, build a mailing-list, give lots of real value for free, then make a genuine free training webinar for each of your products . . .

a webinar will typically convert 10 times better than a sales-page or sales-video, and people who've received value from a mailing-list and got to know the list-owner, will be much more likely to buy.

I'd probably test a whole rewrite of the sales copy/pitch and possibly see if there are any improvements that could be made to the page speed.
