Tapping The Craigslist Internet Marketing Goldmine

Alot of companies have built empires in Internet Marketing by harnessing the Craigslist Gold Mine. How have you used Advertising on Craigslist for your business? What type of results did you receive? Do you personally post or pay for a professional Craigslists ad company? What has your Return on investment been?

We have seen an interesting shift in the types of clients. A lot of our clients used to leverage the previously Free Gigs and Jobs sections to market affiliate programs. Now that those sections involve Craigslist paid ad fees, the math has changed to preclude them from being profitable. That also applies to the Personals section which is now removed and was used to promote dating affiliate programs.

So, there has been a shift to the Housing section, Services section and For Sale sections to effectively promote actual relevant businesses who thrive in those sections. By Craigslist making the For Sale Dealer sections and Services section transition to paid, that removed the spammer element and effect causing the real businesses to receive proper exposure without the need to match the overposting frequency of those spammers. So, this has properly leveled the playing field and led to a better user experience from how it used to be.

I have been successfully selling Clickbank and Amazon products as well as my MLM business opportunity for nearly two decades through Craigslist and other classified advertising sites.

I have never tried to sell directly from the ad. What I do is direct inquiries to an email autoresponder or phone number to collect contact information for followup.

In my experience, it is seldom effective to provide a website early in the selling process, especially on Craigslist. Getting the prospect offline as soon as possible by phone or in person is extremely powerful for optimal conversion.

    P. S. Paying for the ad to appear in the proper category not only targets prospects better, but also projects a far more favorable image on you and your product/service.

Really? Get friggin real! You're seriously talking about misusing CL to sell BS? Not only is this violating CL TOS, but it simply doesn't work. Use the tool as it's meant to be used, or GTFO. And quit with the BS too. Aint nobody getting rich spamming CL.

Next, y'all are gonna talk about "article marketing" and how effective that is....that dirty secret was long exposed. That dead horse has long rotted away....but that lie still gets sold to noobs. Shaking my head over here.

Ok Dream Crusher (the name sure fits) since your the Craigslist guru, what was it created for?

Seems like gathering potential leads is one of those things. I know I sold a car, furniture and other things there.

Why don't you enlighten us with some of your real wisdom, instead of your BS.

        Thank you,

If the product that you are selling indeed works or helps to solve someone's problem, does it matter ?
If you sell them a lie then its a problem, get friggin real man...
Whether it paid ad/free ad , you own the product or you don't, the only thing that matters is, if the person you contacted found you resourceful or that you provided value...

Craigslist still works perhaps what you need to do is to find the right section where you can post the products you want to promote. I recommend that you open an account to enable you to have full control of what happens there. It will allow you to delete or modify an account whenever you feel it should be done. The cost is dependent on many factors.

Sounds like you got flagged a lot on Craigslist, which helps to explain your sour puss attitude about this extremely popular (and growing) worldwide ad site.

FYI, marketers who are using Craigslist in the manner for which it is intended and following its rules are making a killing. This includes national retailers, automtotive/equipment dealers, real estate brokers, affiliate marketers, network marketers, little old ladies ...

But don't be so grumpy; you are right about one biggie here:

FYI I don't have a need to be on Craigslist since I'm not a bottom feeder like y'all are. And no, you're factually (no, categorically) wrong about CL and "making a killing". You're also wrong about national retailers and such using Craigslist...what kind of idiotic declarative statement is that!? That's the thing about pretty much anything you post on the forum - it's all wrong at best and deliberate misinformation at worst.

Wrong! The only company that built an "empire" from Craigslist...is Craigslist.

Let's forget about discussing "empires" since it's such a relative term and discuss reality.

A casual scan of the For Sale > By Dealer section will reveal to you that many of the premiere national brands in a whole array of business niches consistently spend money for paid Dealer ads every day on Craigslist. I know this because I have personally dealt with their national marketing managers. In fact, their return has actually increased since those sections transitioned to becoming paid removing the spam element.

They clearly would not be reallocating significant marketing budgets every month if there was not a solid return since they have many other options. These are companies who spend a minimum of 5 figures per month just on paid Dealer Craigslist ads and these are national, well established, multi-million dollar recognized leading brands in their respective niches for 10 - 20 years, not startups. They have physical retail branches in every area they post to thereby conforming to the rules and not spamming.

Here's the final word. Citing the For Sale > By Dealer section is a red herring logical fallacy. The point the sycophants are trying to make, is that you can misuse CL to sell MLM schemes, affiliate products, and Clickbank trash. The fact of the matter is using CL to sell these things are a perversion of Craigslist. It also doesn't even work. Period. Done. End of thread.

As I was saying, I sell a wide variety of Clickbank and Amazon products as well as my MLM business opportunity on Craigslist. Been doing it the same way for nearly 20 years.

I have never tried to sell directly from the ad. What I do is direct inquiries to an email autoresponder or phone number to collect contact information for followup.

Nothing is ever mentioned about brand names, Clickbank, Amazon, or my MLM company until the prospect is well within the sales cycle.

For example, I may sell books on health and fitness from Clickbank, some health products from Amazon, and my MLM business opportunity in the wellness industry.

The ads are always generic and sometimes even vague, but contain at least one big benefit claim with an incentivized call to action. The incentive could be a free report closely allied to the offer in exchange for contact information.

There really is nothing unique about this method. Fortunes have been made through classified advertising for many decades long before the internet. But some people seem to go crazy and lose all common sense when marketing online.

There is a major advantage for classified advertising, particularly with Craigslist. When people search relevant classifieds, they generally have already prequalified themselves and are looking to buy.

I want to emphasize what I stated earlier in this thread that paying for the ad to appear in the proper Craigslist category not only targets prospects better, but also projects a far more favorable image on you and your product/service

I have just recently been using Craigslist for promotion and always direct inquiries to my capture page and then to a bit more information about the product I am promoted. That seems to work well for me.

The first ever clickbank commission was a result of an ad I place on craigslist.

    I was promoting the Richjerk.

Someone saw my advert on Craigslist and contacted me through email.

I assured him the ebook was a winner and sent him my affiliate link and he bought it. That was like Eons ago in internet time

Craigslist is good but they have gone a bit strict now but you can find the right section where you can post the products you want to promote. Craigslist is an extremely popular site for dealers and brands all you need to do is to play fair and maintain good practices on the site.

Some people do well on Craigslist while others don't. But if you want to succeed, the following is inevitable.
    1.*****Only include high-quality photos
2.*****Remember to include your number in the posting
3.*****Link the craigslist postings to your website
4.*****When an item is not sold in 48 hours, delete and repost it.
5.*****Check what your competitors are doing and think of how you can outdo them.

We are not a fan of including website links in ads even if you could.

o First of all, it represents a predictable campaign footprint through which Craigslist can track and flag all your ads.

o Secondly, sending traffic to your website from an ad involves blind, anonymous hits where people can just visit and bounce off your site. You lose the opportunity to engage them, collect their email or phone number. So, you never end up building any list that you can market to in the future.

You can always expose people to your website once you engage them to qualify them and understand if they are a fit or if you can help them.

      ---------------------------

Very smart idea to scope out your competition. That way, you can craft your ads to properly convey your business edge to stand out from the crowd. You should also determine their daily posting frequency so you can match or outpost them to optimize your ads' shelf life on page 1. Finally, you should optimize your ads for your target keywords but in a natural way and not the point of spammy keyword stuffing.

I have never thought about posting on Craigslist before, but what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I've been using mainly Pinterest. We're getting lots of requests for audio formatting on our blog as well as a podcast=we're starting our official podcast this spring. Need to look into this further, thanks for our post!
