How small of a niche is too small to be worth the effort?

I'm thinking of launching a site in Australia on a niche health topic that has about 1,600 searches a month for the primary keyword and 5,000 total searches a month when all keyword phrases are compiled into a list.

The goal is to get the site listed for a few keywords and maybe generate income either with adsense or sell a product (approx. $20). The market isn't too competitive and I'd consider the site a success if it did a $100 a month.

So I wanted to rely on your experiences with markets to find out how small is too small to even be considered not worth the time as far as search volume goes?

    You would have to do some market research to get a definite answer.Sometimes there is a genuine market but not one large enough to generate a sales volume large enough to recoup or return in excess of investment.

      But if you had to draw a line based on little market research and just based on search volume, where would you draw it?

    Just ship your product and you'll know for sure. It's better then wondering'what if?' Just don't spend forever on the product. Ship something quick to validate the idea so to speak and see if you get any traction.

    You can even dry test where you promote the product page before you've launched it. When people click to buy just have an opt-in form telling them they caught you early and to enter their email address to be notified when you do launch.

    If you ranked #1 for all keywords and had a good enough name/tag line, you' d get about 1500 visitors to the site.


    If you got 1% of them to join your email list, you'd get 15 new people on your list.

    If you got 80% of them to open your first message, 12 of them might see your offer.

    If 1% of them bought, you'd have 0.12 sales from that email, 1.2 sales from every 10 email messages you send.

    You now know how to calculate, replace my numbers with numbers you can achieve.

    Look, there are people who could make a few hundred dollars a month from 5k searches and people who could not make 10 dollars from 500000000000 searches.

    So, yes, it is possible to maje 100/month frpm what you have. Whether you can, I have no idea. What do you know how to do? How well?

      The line . How much do you think you will make howuch will is cost you .how much time will it take .

      You get to draw the line on what you think your time is worth.

      If you can create the product . And make 100$ a month for 2-3 hours invested a month with 10 or 20 dolllars a month spent promoting .so you are makeing 20-30 dollars an hour .

      But how many hours are you putting in to create the product and how long of I mean how many months do you think you can make 100 a month .

      How much is your time worth to you .

    There are too many different factors to consider. Whats your competition like? What are your items can you sell within that niche? Do people who are searching for the niche have a strong likelihood to buy? Even if you answer all these question correctly, nothing is given until you try it out.

    There are a million ways to answer this question...

    But one way that could help?

    Go to Facebook and use the search bar... look for that niche
    you're thinking of.

    When you get the return results, check out some of the
    PAGES that Facebook returns.

    Is there a page with a lot of people following it?

    If so, go the page and check out Transparency
    and see if they're running ads.

    If they are, see how far the ads go back.

    Then, like and follow that page if it seems to
    get a lot of activity.

    Once you do, you'll start seeing their paid ads
    if they continue running them.

    And if they seem to run ads, especially the
    same ads for a while... there's a pretty good chance
    they're making money.

    If they're making money running ads for any length of
    time, it's probably a good niche to consider.

    This isn't the only way, or even fool proof... but
    it can give you a good idea.

    If others are paying for ads for any length of time,
    there's a good chance it's a profitable niche to consider.

    If your just starting out then small is good. Means less competition. It all comes down to supply and demand. You did your keyword research which good. Have you researched what your competition is doing? Looked at their websites and see what kind of sales are being generated! As an email marketer myself I would focus on capturing a lead and promote a low end product through a thank you or a bridge page. It all starts with getting some data and working on improving those numbers.

    Depending on what you want, you'd have to make a market research to see what kind of niche would be best for you. Truth is, no one can actually decide that for you accurately. It'd only be a guessed work.

    Well, it depends on your resources. And by resources i mean host and your time.

    It costs what..$10-20 for a site name, probably take about 2-3 hours to get a tight little wordpress site put up. Everything all said and done, youll probably have $75 in a niche site by the time its ready to generate any income at all.

    Is the niche worth at least that? Once you get good at building niche sites, and you have a decent host thats pretty much unlimited everything, there really isn't a niche too small (in my opinion anyway)

    Be careful of those keyword search tools with traffic projections...

    Based on my experience, almost all the time they are off... some are WAY off.

    One of my Adsense sites was built on a keyword that was supposed to get less than 5K searches per month. My site actually got 5K per DAY.

    The opposite is also true. I've built sites that were supposed to get LOTS of searches but I couldn't get a fraction of their estimated traffic even when I got #1 ranking in SERPS
