If the original post sparked my interest, I do read the replies to see what others think. I also read replies to see if the point I thought of was brought up by someone else. You're right about the buried information Elmer. I've found some gems.

Good point Elmer, but imagine this, you just notice a thread with a real good topic, you read the original post and are itching to ask a question or make a comment BUT the thread has 200+ posts. Now if you're quite busy it could be a daunting task going through all of them.

But that's no excuse and I do agree with you.

I've seen it happening more and more here lately.
So, I deceided I would help out the next person that posts by placing all
the previous posts in this thread together for them to read.

Every time you read the OP and dash off a reply without going deeper into the thread you potentially pass up information which could add to your personal knowledge store. You're effectively screwing yourself.

Of course if you're replying to only increase post count it doesn't matter. You aren't interested in gaining knowledge...

And that brings us back to the initial question: "...why are we here?"

One question: Is this a service you'll be providing for all threads?

A valid point--to a point. The super-long threads are exactly the ones where there is greater possibility of benefit. And, as they are not all that common the potential loss of time may be repaid by the reading.

Although that will not always be the case...

Sometimes a thread does go astray.

Elmer, a lot depends on the nature of the thread itself.

For example, if somebody asks...

"I am considering doing XYZ. What do you think of the idea?"

If I think it's just a flat out bad idea, I am going to respond telling the
person so and I'm not going to allow myself to be influenced by the
opinions of others.

Having said that, I will still read the thread to see how other people feel
if for no other reason than to mentally note who I would not want to do
business with, especially if XYZ was unethical IMO.

While I agree with what you said generally speaking, I don't think it's a
hard and fast rule for every scrap that gets posted here.

I mean let's face it, some of the stuff that gets posted is just pretty
bad. And to waste more of my time reading what other people have to
say about something that is horse manure in the first place is just not
my idea of a productive use of my time.

And yes, I did read every reply to this thread before posting this.

I usually do, but sometimes, as I pointed out, there are exceptions where
you just don't need to know what other people think.

I know when I do reply to a post I always read the thread to see what has been said and what hasnt before I submit a reply as there is no point in providing worthless information

Good points, Elmer. The forum format is, essentially, a group discussion.

When someone starts a thread, it's usually in order to begin a discussion on a subject with potential interest to a wide and disparate group of marketers. Any of these may make subsequent points that move the discussion in a particular direction.

Someone having the arrogance to choose to bypass these contributions runs the risk of repeating a point or missing a vital turn in, or addition to, the subject under discussion.

It's disrespectful to the other contributors and readers.

If you're determined not to have your opinions swayed by other contributors, you're missing out on an important facet of forum membership. I'm always learning - and often from the most unexpected sources.

Especially if you do not read all the threads. However I have found some of the best info these posts have to offer hidden deep in threads. Sometimes I research one topic say "traffic" and read for two or three hours and copy and paste the best of the threads and keep them on my hard drive for future reference.

There are some fantastic gems in the copywriting forum I could spend a day in there easy.

Equally there are some hot threads that I have found worthless it depends what you are looking for
