Better Monitizing a Content/Clickbakt Site

Hi Warriors!

Over the past several years, I've build up a Content/Clickbait site in the Automotive niche. It's done reasonably well, but it's pretty inconsistent since it's not really selling anything. It's running AdSense and Outbrain ads (I've tested other networks, but this seems to be the best combination), and I'm trying to figure out what to do to take it to the next level. Lately, I've been seeing the 'writing on the wall' with regards to clickbait/content sites. Back years ago I could get tons of traffic on the Native networks for a couple cents a click, but now everyone and their mom are advertising on Taboola, Outbrain, etc and I'm having to compete for traffic against people who are actually selling products and making money on them, where all I'm doing is getting you to my page and hoping you click on one of my ads. I'm thinking that in order to continue this site - even at the same revenue it's making now, I'm going to need to make some pretty significant changes to the philosophy and business plan. My initial thoughts were related to getting in to affiliate marketing, but the audience that I'm reaching is so broad that there's not really a niche that I think would work well. Even though it's a car related site, not all of my traffic are "car people" - it's bored people killing time at the office clicking through slideshows to avoid having to do work. The articles that are generating the most traffic (>95% of my traffic is via paid ads - I don't get much, if any, organic traffic) are pretty broad also - not anything like "Top 10 Ways to Get More Performance out of your Car" or anything like that, where I could promote car parts. It's really just standard mind-numbing clickbait content.

I really do need to figure out some way of getting this site to succeed in the future though. Over the past several years, it has done pretty well - not enough for me to quit my day job, but it's certainly revenue that I'd like to continue to get, or to grow.

In my "day job" I have quite bit of experience on working with funnels, upsells, cross-sells, etc - but since this site isn't actually selling anything, and I can't really think of anything that it could reasonably sell, I'm really just not sure where to go from here.

Can anyone help me brainstorm "what's next?"

Thanks!

It sounds like you haven't done enough market research to determine what kind of products you could create and sell to this audience. There has to be something. There should be countless product ideas to pursue and if there isn't, you're targeting the wrong audience/niche IMO.
