Clickbank sales have dropped like a rock. Anyone else Having This Problem?

by Neil S 34 replies
Has anyone noticed since the new Clickbank update around September 10th that their sales have dropped considerably? I thought I was doing something wrong until I noticed a couple threads about it on another board:

ClickBank Is Having Problems - PROOF

Clickbank Credit Card Processing Problems Persist, Appear to not be Imaginary

This is absolutely terrible for those of us who rely on Clickbank for income. If you are also having this issue we need to push Clickbank to rectify this problem.

Other than a few down days, I haven't noticed a significant change. I've already made almost double my Clickbank income from last year. Affiliates are loving me these days.

It seems like the problem has just been happening in the last week and a half. Before that I was doing very well too.

I haven't had that problem. My Clickbank sales have actually been great the last few weeks. I've noticed that this time of year and January seems to be really busy for "how to" start business ebooks.

Isn't that about the time they switched over to weekly payouts instead of bi-weekly? I wonder if that has something to do with it. Plus, when they went to the breakdown, I don't know if it's right or not.

It's funny you mentioned it...for the first time ever, I did not receive one of my checks (for the period ending 9-1-08) that was supposedly mailed on 9-15-08. All my checks for all my accounts except my biggest one was received on time as usual....

I've also had several customers advise that they were charged twice by clcikbank but that they weren't given a download link.

I wonder what other problems are occurring

I've had a terrible week this past week up until today. Hopefully this is a sign that things will go back to normal.

My sales have been down as a vendor and affiliate. I normally attribute this to normal fluctuations however, I have had many customers contact me and telling me that their credit card failed to process.

In addition, others have contacted me about double billing. Clickbank admits this was an issue:

On 2008-09-14 our credit card processor charged some customers twice for purchases made with a VISA card. The situation is now resolved and all duplicated charges have been reversed. However, for customers who purchased with a debit card it may take up to 3 days for outstanding funds to become available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

My sales also totally down from 10th onwards. I paused my ppc campaigns. I hope it would become normal shortly.

This is ABSOLUTELY an issue... 99% certain in my mind - something is VERY wrong...

I do over a million dollars through Clickbank across multiple products in different niches as a merchant and I have noticed something VERY wrong. The numbers aren't right.

There is a BIG drop in sales, and my best affiliate has noticed it too.

I'm always happy of threads like this that reaffirm my suspicions of the source of the problem. I'll take a look at the forum threads you've mentioned, just wanted to get in that YES, it IS an issue. Clickbank's usually pretty solid but something isn't right.

It's probably not due to any ClickBank glitch. I use both ClickBank and PayPal as my CC processors and I've seen a drop on both sides.

My theory is that this apparent drop in sales is due to the global (but mostly American) economic decline. When people don't feel secure with their money, they stop spending. And right now, all I hear about on CNN is "the economy is issue #1".

Businesses everywhere, be it offline or online are experiencing a drop in sales.

    That's the free market.

    Kudos,
    Matt

    I personally blame Clickbank...

Lehman Brothers didn't go under until September 13th which is what sparked this most recent economy scare.

Clickbank on the other hand admitted they had "credit card processing outages" on the 10th of September and it's my guess that they have ever since.

I'm losing more and more money with this schoolboy error...

This is NOT an economy issue... Sorry, but it's really not.

I too have noticed a slight drop.

I made quite a few sales yesterday, but none are showing up on the account home page. I see them on the transactions and analytics page under the reporting tab though!

    Weird.

Well, as stated above I hate to blame outside sources when sales are down. But something does appear to be going on with CB. Sales have been strangely down now on my multiple CB accounts (vendor and affiliate).

As a vendor of various CB products, I get to see both sides of it.

I received this mail this morning and have had numerous other ones like it this week...maybe 10 or more? Normally I only get something like this every few months or so.

Hi, been rtying to purchase your software for a week now but my card never goes through. I've used CB before no prob but it's not working...do you take Paypal?
So yes, it appears something is going on. My traffic is the same but conversions are way down and I'm getting complaints of failed credit card transactions and double billing.

I hope you have contacted CB about this and have provided detailed information to them so they can track down the problem?? It could be that they have changed their merchant account settings (something you'd never be able to see) and not told anyone. Or their merchant acct provider, or gateway, has undergone some security changes that is causing these higher failure rates.

At any rate, they can't fix it without being told about it. Everybody needs to kick in on this -- especially the merchants -- if you get a complaint from a buyer, forward everything you have about it to CB.

On behalf of all affiliates LOL, I thank you greatly for doing this ........

Sales have been dropping like a rock for me. In the Aug 15 - Sep 14 pay period, I made around $390 in affiliate revenue. From Sep 15 onwards, I made a whooping total of... $44.

I have no clue what's going on. Traffic is still there - in fact, traffic-wise, this is shaping up to be my best month yet. Clickthroughs are still there. People are leaving my affiliate page to visit the vendor page - but they're just not buying...

...same with me too. One of my ebooks in a niche market has sold at least one a day for the past year or so. This last month I've sold a total of 3 for the whole period.

      Something is definitely up!

I doubt the economy is playing a part in this. Honestly, i've seen consistent growth in my sales daily/weekly/monthly/yearly. Could just be that you need to release a new product to pick up the pace a little...

I suggest that you look at WHO your clickbank products are
targeted at. If it's the class of people for whom $4.oo gasoline
is a big issue, them yes, your sales are going to be affected.

It's not simply a matter of "buyer confidence" - it can be a matter
of the qualified buyers spending more of their income on
    necessities.

Products which tell you that you can make $100,000 in the next 6
month by spending $39 on the ebook are going to suffer. The
buyers for those are the guys who are hard-hit at the pump in
    the states.

In the sunday paper there was an interesting article about credit cards. Over the last month the credit cards silently reduced the available credit limits of millions of people. 18% of cardholders.

There has definitely been a problem with Clickbank imo.

On another forum it was suggested that a backlog of sales are starting to show up from that period, and I think that has happened to me today. I had 3sales within minutes of each other, all VISA sales which were also said to be those affected, and according to CB analytics those 3 sales came from 0 hoplinks which suggests it was backlogged sales.

I don't get a lot of sales through Clickbank but even I have noticed very low activity, in fact, over the past month.

My main website sales were also way down over the past week but showed a nice spike up yesterday. Too early to say if it's coming back to normal but I would agree there has been a slump.
