Sorry-Cloaking Affiliate links question...I'm just not getting it.

I know that there are different ways to cloak affiliate links. From what I understand some methods will hurt your SEO.

What is the best method in my situation.

I have a server.
I have brought a domain to use.

I'm sorry to ask but there's so many ways and I'd rather have the 'best' method from the start. I don't know what to specifically ask.

Thank you,

P.S. Please don't stone me!

    Hey Theone24,

I'm not sure about the SEO part but if you plan to run a lot of different links and want to track them then the best bet is to install some sort of link cloaker or link tracking system on your domain.

I just recently began buying domain names and just redirecting them straight through my affiliate link on over to the merchant website. I have owned 2 link cloaking businesses and I like the tracking capabilities they provide but it also depends on what you want to accomplish and if tracking is important or not to you.

If you are concerned about SEO for your links and want to have www.YourDomain.com/keyword.php type links I believe there is software out there that can do that as well and create the pages for tracking, I could be wrong but I would at least search Google or see if another Warrior has an answer to that one.

No one is going to "Stone You"

There are so many ways to cloak your affilate links, but it really depends on which program you are using, and what rules they have in place.

    What is your situation?
    What programs are you using?
Have you checked out their terms etc?

    Simplicity!

Read the rules of the service provider for the program. Follow them and all will be well.

Hey guys. Thanks for your time.

I would like to send traffic from my presell page to my affiliate page.
I was advised to redirect (I think it's a redirect) using a new domain name. I'm not really sure how to do that. (or how to explain it for that matter!)
I would like it to say something like www.yourdomain.com

I am also only interested in a free way. (already have a domain ready)

I'm not keen on using software as I'm worried about tracking failures.

    Hi Janet Sawyer,

I just meant 'my situation' meaning I would like to use the www.yoursite.com method.
    I am using clckbank.
I would also like to prevent commission theft (or anything 'nasty' really)
Do you mean the TOS of the vendor OR clickbank?

    Thank you

    P.S. No stones yet!

So you bought the domain name already that you wish to use to redirect through your affiliate link to the affiliate page correct

All you would need to do assuming it's not hosted anywhere is have that domain forward through your affiliate link to the affiliate page. I use GoDaddy to buy domain names and it's easy to do without needing to buy hosting for the domain name. You just log into your account and depending on your registrar I guess, you should see a forwarding option. In GoDaddy it's there and that is where you plug in your aff. link.

You can do that in CPanel as well if you have hosting for the domain name and choose redirects and have it redirect through there. There is also code you can Google for redirecting through an affiliate link.

That's what I meant. Will this also disguise my affiliate id?

      I have a godaddy domain.
I also have a CPanel (taught to get one-don't really know what it is or how to use it!!)

So I can simply go to godaddy and look for a forwarding option, then add my affiliate id?

      Thanks for your time.

CPanel is going to be what you use to manage your domain / hosting. You really didn't need hosting for this unless you are going to have a live site with content, the same can be done using just the GoDaddy account to forward your affiliate link.

Yeah, if you want to go through GoDaddy and login to your account, you would look for the 'Domain Manager' link and click that to get where you need to be. From there you will see a list of your domain names, simply click the one you want to manage and up on the top of the site navigation you will see a 'Forward' icon with an arrow. Click that link, choose 'Forward Domain' and enter in the affiliate link there.

It may take a while for it to finally start working and forwarding, this is because the system needs to update its records and things to start forwarding your visitors though your affiliate link.

    Hope this helps!

I was wondering exactly how long the rdirect option will work.

Google cracked down on affiliate links, so we started redirecting.

Its only a matter of time before they realize that a page is a redirecting page and crack down on those too.

    Or am I being paranoid?

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

      1. Does anyone know if article directories allow you to put your website in their resource box IF your website re-directs to an affiliate page?

      2. If your website has no content (because it redirects to an affiliate page) can you still get backlinks for your website if you use anchor links in your articles?

        1. Usually yes, but you'll have to check each of their TOS.

        2. This worked a couple of months ago according to a very high profile IMer, but I haven't tested it myself.

And here's a question I never figured out, if you mask the redirect, does the seller still record your sale?

    (was that a noob question?)

I use Mike Filsaime's powerlink generator and it works great. Ezine Articles don't usually allow affiliate links but I got past that with this software. It also has a few cool features. I understand you are wanting a free option though but thought I would share this with you. Heres a video of it in action.

Thanks for that, I'm gonna test it out on the SEO level. I'll let you know how it goes.
