Hmmmm, you see...I got ya didn't I...? Yup, admit it...lol. My point being is that it seems as though that kind of crap(headline) is what most people buy into thinking it's the holy grail to IM. I know, I know..."Kevin, you've got to have a compelling headline"...Yes, I concur 100% with that. The killer is, is that in recent months I've seen such silly headlines that come across even cheesier than the one that got you to click on this thread....It's utterly ridiculous. Anyway, my caveat or 2 cents for that matter in writing this thread is this. If at anytime you feel being drawn into thinking that a headline alone is "the answer" you've been searching for...Chances are it's not, and to be quite frank with you team. I'm actually not indignant at all with the latest changes coming from the FTC. All in all we're here to do our best as ethical marketers(at least I hope so) and carve our piece of the American(or where ever you're from) dream for ourselves. So, with that said just be careful where you place your value meter because you just may be setting yourself up for let down. I surely hope not though.

        I have too much integrity to sell people false dreams. That's why I stick to selling retail products. I stay away from IM products and lord knows I don't touch CPA at all.

        How many times have you read a thread and noticed someone is asking a basic SEO question but you look in their signature file and their promoting "How To MMO" crap? I see it everytime I visit the Warrior Forum. I like money just like everyone else but I do not want to earn my money at the expense of exploiting others.

          You and me both. I made it a rule for myself a few months ago to steer
          clear of the IM niche. No longer do I promote anything in this overcrowded
          market or even bother to check out the latest sales pages.

          I'd much rather feel happy with myself promoting a good product in
          a market that's not so overcrowded than preying on peoples dreams
          and promoting the latest s**t that comes out from the IM crowd.

          I don't think people realise that the IM niche is is relatively small
          compared to other markets and there's 10 times more money to
          be made elsewhere.

          In regards to sig links and promoting stuff I personally think it would
          be awesome if sig links were banned on this forum. People can sell
          in the WSO section if they want to come here to sell.

          I'm not saying everyone here with a sig link is a scammer because
          a lot of the products are good. But I think if sig links were banned then
          all of the unethical sellers who only joined to sell to us would be gone
          and we'd be left with a great group of ethical marketers that are here
          to just learn and share other good info.

          Does anyone else agree or am I alone on this one?

          Wow this is a refreshing thread. Self-marketers truly bother me. I receive at least 15 emails from some self-styled guru who claims to have the answer that will make you a millionaire living out your dreams on your private island in the Seychelles. They've spun their data to make themselves seem awesome and brilliant without breaking any laws. The secret is that they each have one primary product- themselves- their teaching is their means of monetizing themselves- so if you can winnow the chaff and learn something, great. If not, ignore those gurus.

          Sorry- I don't want to just complain, but I think the title and the discussion it created is a great point. We all clicked on the thread, didn't we? I was curious if someone was making that claim and if there could possibly be some merit in what was being said. It's powerful, and even with the 98% chance it's crap, we'll still click on it- just in case.

          In a similar case, I got an email telling me that somebody's students had made some stupidly large amount. But I did the math and it worked out to $374 per student over a year. Even assuming an uneven distribution and some students not even implementing the strategy, your island in the Seychelles is still pretty far off.

          There- my two cents. And no- I didn't make 37k today- and I just tossed away two cents- probably more. Stupid, stupid...

I haven't seen the facts for myself firsthand, but it looked a lot more legitimate to me than most of the IM marketing I see . . . these people had video of themselves teaching at conferences where each person had paid 25k to attend . . . certainly looked legitimate to me, but who can tell? I see all these IM marketers with their "bank statement" images on their sales page and photos of big houses, fast cars etc., and realise that I could mock up all of that in a few minutes using photoshop, so who can really tell if ANY claim made by anyone is ever genuine, other than doing it yourself?

      if you did a simple product launch you could even make 10 or 20 times more then that

      I second what Imran said. He's a really successful marketer who always has something useful to say, not to mention some great goodies in the War Room >

      IM tends to go from being the hardest job in the world to the easiest. After awhile it just becomes a pattern of lather, rinse, repeat. In the beginning, the best advice I can give is to learn from your mistakes.

      I know I have my share of failed attempts, but I came out with invaluable lessons from each one of them.

      Big deal if someone is making $10,000 a day with CPA. Most of those products are ethically challenged.

      I know guys that make 4 times that amount a day selling HEROIN. Does that mean I should go sell dope?

    Granted, I may not know as much as many of you... but, I certainly believe that 37k (or more) is possible in a single day. Although... making it every day is probably a lot tougher.

    I've heard stories from Internet Marketers (in my offline mastermind group) who have made this much in a day. Basically, they use the "product launch" angle.

    Here's what they told me:

    Step 1: They create an over-the-top-great product (imagine an amazing PLR package, complete with keywords, video coaching, autoreponders, adword templates, etc).
    Step 2: They leverage their pre-built list, and the lists of other JV partners to get everyone frothing at the mouth for the product release date.
    Step 3: They tell everyone that to limit competition, the product is limited to only 37.
    Step 4: Then, they build up excitement a bit more... get them really going (you know that you've hit it when people start trying to preorder, sending their credit card numbers via e-mail, without asking you how much it costs)
    Step 5: Then, you finally announce that the product is available, for the low price of only $999

    Okay, so I'm only paraphrasing what I've heard. Although I haven't tried it myself, I took it as the truth since I wasn't being asked to buy anything. The offline group that I meet with every 3 months is just there to share ideas and provide each other with encouragement and support... so, I don't have any reason not to believe that a few of my fellow members have made large sums of money this way.

      Malarkey. $37,000 in a day is not where most people live. Statistically it SHOULD provoke healthy skepticism. Its $13.5 million dollars a year and by the time you are making that in IM you are already known pretty well.

      Even though I am relatively new to these boards my first product/application is closing at about 8% from my sales page So I am making money with a great product and no hype copy. That and the application has a few glitches and will only get better. Good thing is my no hype copy fits in perfectly with the new FTC rules as well. Go figure.

      The problem I see with this style copy is that people concentrate so much on getting this border line lying sizzle into their copy that they don't work hard enough to create a great product. They race through a product or choosing an affiliate product and figure they will gloss over its weakness with a flashy headline and sales copy.

      I think there ought to be a little bit more restraint in copy and by copywriters. Maybe there should be a new career position in IM. Product critique/copywriter. If a product is no good I can't be bothered promoting it or writing good copy for it. If its all hype its like drinking out of a Pepsi bottle (that we had more of back in the day) after the Pepsi's done.

          Fine he didn't say per day but he said today alone implying a continuance not just a one day aberration. Its still statistically not within the average or even slightly above average. Its still considered a nice haul . The mathematics on that are clear and indisputable so theres no reason whatsoever to cast a judgment on anyone with healthy skepticism. Doesn't make sense.

          No one was claiming that is is impossible in a day to create that (and more) but again you will read such things more often than not and they are hype. Whats more the whole point of this post was exactly that so in this case those with some skepticism were right.

          Nothing wrong with skepticism. It can protect you as long as you are willing to throw it aside when the facts and the opportunity are right.

          Granted as long as they are not selling here. Another reason for my skepticism. I'd be finding all kinds of other things to do to celebrate than posting it on a forum but thats just me perhaps.

          10-4! I agree and well said Daniel. When I first read the headline, I thought, maybe some b-lister (no offense) I never heard of had a great day. John Reese had a million-dollar day a couple years back so $37k in a day really isn't that huge in the big picture.

          Shaq makes over $200k every time he steps on the basketball court (which is absolutely ridiculous in it's own right) and he plays at least 82 games a year. Do the math.

          Jim Carrey and Tom Cruise make at least $20 million per motion picture. Ridiculous. Their on location for a couple months filming a movie, then maybe a month of promo work hitting all the talk shows hyping the movie. I don't care how you slice it, $20 mil for 3 mos of work for a movie is paranormal.

          But I digress...

          Granted none of these people are in IM, but nonetheless, it's the number that got my attention in the headline. The curiosity factor I suppose from a "no-name" (again, no offense).

          Am I guilty, sure.

          But if I learned something new, even a smidgen, from some no name (no offense) who figured out the IM Rubik's Cube, I'll high-five myself.

        Hmmmm, lots and lots of interesting points made by you guys... My friend who referred to me as a "no name"...lol. That's funny, and I totally understand what you meant. But like many marketers out there who've earned very well yet aren't in the spotlight. I'll just say I joined that crowd a few years back. I'm not a million dollar launch dude or anything like that, but it's definitely beyond what most will ever reach in the IM sector. In fact, the more "behind the scenes" type of projects I engage in I find out about guys who's numbers make my head spin, and actually despise being a poster boy for the IM world. I truly dig that approach, but also have enormous respect for those well known marketers who crush it and reeeeeally help folks. So, I hope this thread helped you whether trivial or profound.

Sure, most of those checks ended up being spent on payroll, but what difference does that make? You spend $20 on PPC and get a $17 commission, you don't come running in and say "I just lost $3!" do you?

      It makes a huge difference! It's the difference between living the life of a bank's employees who handle a ton of money, and the bank's big stockholders who rake in actual profits from those loans. What matters is how much money you get to keep, not how much you got to handle before paying the costs of doing business.

      This is a pet peeve of mine actually. A million headlines scream: "I made [blank amout] in a [day, week, or...]!" to sell suckers on their business model, when they mean "I grossed..." which is entirely different, in my book.

      It could be argued that technically they aren't lying, since they "made" it in gross sales, but it's highly misleading. It's less so when they say "I made a mil in sales", but still lacking in integrity if their copy emphasises the big number, and never divulges the cost of getting it.

      So yes, if I spent $20 to make $17, I would say, "I lost $3". I might not "come running in" to say it, but if the subject came up, it's exactly what I'd say. It's the truth.

        Actually the point of this thread if I read right was to show how ridiculous those kinds of headlines are. Its a common error I see trumpeted by even some copywriters here. The purpose of a good headline is NOT to catch attention its to set the stage for a sale. In other words yes you hold attention but you do it by peaking the interest in your product.

        Exactly. The point of a head line IS to catch attention.

        And from what I saw in the first 8-10 posts (I didn't bother reading any further) is whining about unethical marketing, how Bambi's mother spent their welfare check on a "get rich quick" home course, and how bad and sad all of this is. Oh, and how much people dislike hype. Boo hoo.

        Moral marketing is applauded, sure, but if you're here to do good for the world, go teach the 4th grade. You've got no business in being a marketer.

              Perfect example of amatuer copywriting observations. This copy is converting in my target market at 8% (most experienced copywriters will tell you thats pretty good). In fact I considered changing it but in tests it converted too well.

              Why? Because it speaks directly to the number one problem people have had with backlink lists. The links get overused, abused and removed. The unique selling point of this product is that it caps the amount of people using those backlinks and has built in tracking protection to identify and remove spammers from the program. Whenever possible you should consider getting your USP into the headline. Not a hard and fast rule but something to consider.

              Now of course this product itself also defies your idea of IM because it IS a product that caps its profit margin for the good of the customer. That concept blows your mind and of course you would consider foolish. Much of IM marketing is all about maximizing the profit margin regardless of what it does to the effectiveness of the product itself. I'll only take a maximum 299 people into the program and they are the only ones that will access those backlinks through my system. Why? Shocker....because thats of benefit to my customers who I want to help.

              So you see thats the NUMBER ONE key in copywriting. Know your market. Know your target. Know your product. Don't assume some cookie cutter mentality approach.

              Then you go and WRITE COPY THAT CONVERTS YOUR TARGET MARKET. I've actually received emails PRAISING the copy from my customers. So you see what is of no interest to you is of interest to others. You are not my target market. My target market are people who have seen their backlinks removed or who don't like their backlink sites being abused. Thats all there is to it.


              Go find me a single guru who does earn a lot of money, and show me his sales letter which doesn't hype the crap out of any of his products.
              There you go . Thats the the mentality. News flash. Copy has been written for years in Direct marketing and some of the greatest campaigns that have made million of dollars were fresh, witty, to the point and low on hype. You like alot of people are just guru copy cats. Frank Kern does something you run to copy it without Kern's style, personality and background - and then you wonder why it doesn't work. Worse some people don't even realize that you can't possibly succeed since the market only wants so many Kern copycats.

              And realistically, "immoral, hypey headlines" are what's going to earn the bread.
              Obviously right? Thats why so many people fail at IM. Because rather than develop a system that works for their product or service they are too busy trying to copy someone elses path to success. Look around. Trillions of dollars of product and services that fuel our economy are not based on "You can make $24,000 in the next 72 hours." The point is a weak one and since its not real in that it doesn't look at the wider real world it isn't realistic at all..

Much of IM marketing is all about maximizing the profit margin regardless of what it does to the effectiveness of the product itself. I'll only take a maximum 299 people into the program and they are the only ones that will access those backlinks through my system. Why? Shocker....because thats of benefit to my customers who I want to help.

                So you see thats the NUMBER ONE key in copywriting. Know your market. Know your target. Know your product. Don't assume some cookie cutter mentality approach.

                Then you go and WRITE COPY THAT CONVERTS YOUR TARGET MARKET. I've actually received emails PRAISING the copy from my customers. So you see what is of no interest to you is of interest to others. You are not my target market. My target market are people who have seen their backlinks removed or who don't like their backlink sites being abused. Thats all there is to it.




                There you go . Thats the the mentality. News flash. Copy has been written for years in Direct marketing and some of the greatest campaigns that have made million of dollars were fresh, witty, to the point and low on hype. You like alot of people are just guru copy cats. Frank Kern does something you run to copy it without Kern's style, personality and background - and then you wonder why it doesn't work. Worse some people don't even realize that you can't possibly succeed since the market only wants so many Kern copycats.



                Obviously right? Thats why so many people fail at IM. Because rather than develop a system that works for their product or service they are too busy trying to copy someone elses path to success. Look around. Trillions of dollars of product and services that fuel our economy are not based on "You can make $24,000 in the next 72 hours." The point is a weak one and since its not real in that it doesn't look at the wider real world it isn't realistic at all..
                I highly, highly doubt that converts at 8%. But hey, it's not like you can show me stats, so that point's dead.

                And it sounds like you haven't found me a single product to prove your point. Oh, and every single seasoned copywriter does preach the "don't fix if it ain't broke", which is why we do keep swipe files for headlines, bullets, etc, etc, etc. No, copying copy that worked won't necessarily convert just as well, but if you study the structure of the copy, it'll work. I don't actually know anyone who just copies copy, since it seems like a stupid thing to do, but I guess you do know 'em.

                Oh, and no, Internet marketing is not a "trillions per year" industry. I don't know where you found that fact, but it's not. And 95% of the newest "Google Sniper" [No offense to that product directly, it's the most recent magic money product I remember] products do prey on people who want big money quickly.

                Which brings me back to the first immoral point. Immoral marketers are everywhere, and make a majority of the money.

                To ignore that is to shoot yourself in the foot.

                  Don't care what you believe or don't. If you are skeptical and don't know what or who is my target market it proves conclusively you don't know what you are talking about anyway. You can't possibly assess viable closing rates with a given piece of copy unless you know the target.

                  Well go sell drugs. bogus cancer cures, or become a pimp all of which make money too. With that way of thinking then you are shooting yourself in the foot by not pursuing those options.

                  And while you are at it go look up the new FTC rules for copy before you advise people about putting immoral hype into their copy. The days of the flim flam borderline scam copy are done unless you want to always be looking over your shoulder for the guys with jackets to show up at your office.

                    And FTC is for US marketers only. Before you tell people what to read, and why, you should learn a little about CPA marketing. It'll teach you an awful lot as to why the FTC has done what they have.

                    And CPA marketing, you're right, was way over the line. I mean, the kind of **** some of these companies were pulling were actually scamming people.

                    I personally don't think immoral marketing is the same as scamming people, but hey, I have different definitions for the two myself.

                      Completely and absolutely the kind of nonsense that alot of people who don't think have been trumpeting here on WF. Paypal (and a whole lot of US based payment processors) is US based and can shut your account down for violating US Law. Clickbank I think is also US based and the FTC can shut them off from selling items that violate US law. Add to that a number of affiliate networks and even Google adwords etc.

                      So go ahead and think that you can operate on the fringe of the law by being outside of the US. Its not likely you would be arrested true but theres every reason to believe your ability to do business online in any meaningful way would be yanked at any time.

                      FTC rules do not just impact US marketers. Wrong again.

    I knew it was joke bait when I read the Judy Garlandesque "My Goodness" in the subject.

    Yet I too am amazed at the ridiculous phrases I see all around the biz. I seem to have the need to write in an opposite fashion. When I write copy I avoid the glorious and flowery terms and probably a few of the less glamorous ones I should include more often.

    I suppose I've been over-sensitized by the senseless copy we get exposed to on a daily basis.

    Well, I clicked the link because I wanted to see how you did
    it Unlike many others who've responded, I not only believe
    that that level of income is possible... but I know people who
    have those type of day.

    An example is the young lady the I inteviewed in this pdf

    she is not typical. She's a real go-getter, and she had
    experience in the industry that her client was from.

    My point though is that while I encourage skepticism, don't

    Yes, many of the headlines that we read are BS, but there
    are people who have those type of days. They usually spent
    a lot of time building it to them, but it DOES happen.

    I have seen these used before, kinda funny but I suppose they could work..

    Find a super catchy headline but then actually over deliver on it...
    That is the hard part if you use headlines like that because of the yeah right factor... People will call your bluff and then you look like a clown.

        As far As I see this problem goes a lot further than the internet. I see infomercials and even day time commercials claim all sorts of things everyday. I thought false advertisements were illegal but I guess there are loopholes for everything or at least everyone that has big money or a big money name backing them up.

        I also dislike this sort of thing but why aren't we complaining about the supposedly legit companies that use these type of advertisement methods everyday and have been for years.

        I have paid for many offline products that didn't live up to it's claims and I'm sure most of you have too. So why are we picking on the little guy that may or may not even be making a dime when their are very very big fish in the world you can attempt to fry.
