I had my first month clearing $10K

In September, I made over $14K. I never imagined that I would ever make over $10K in one month, but after making some changes to my site as well as having a traffic boost due to creating a hot piece of content, I made a ton of sales in September. I think I made about 148 sales of my $59 product. Not too bad!

This month isn't as hot as last month so far, but I've still been making about 5 to 7 sales per day. If I make 6 sales every day at $59 each, then I clear $10K for the month. I think I may do it again this month!

I still have yet to use paid traffic. My strategy has been in creating about 150 YouTube videos and directing people back to my site where I have my $59 product for sale.

I just figured that I'd share my story, since this was one of my IM goals on the bucketlist. My old goal was to make $3000 per month, which now seems like no big deal anymore. I've set my new goal to a consistent $1K per day minimum. I definitely think that's possible

My old home page just had 2 options presented on there: sign up for my free membership or go to the sales page for my $59 "full access" membership. There wasn't anything else on there because I assumed people would already know who I was from YouTube.

Well, now my home page has a welcome video explaining why they should become a member. It also has a few samples of what's inside, along with some positive reviews.

Still same 2 options, but now I'm getting about 100 new signups each day.

Also, once they sign up for the free membership, I made a "thank you page" to be a sales page to upgrade to full access or choose the "no thanks, I just want to proceed as a free member". I didn't even have a "thank you page" before! This let's them know right away what I'm selling and why they should buy, rather than just letting them figure it out on their own.

Also, I beefed up my sales page with a lot of graphics and better descriptions of all of what's included inside.

In short: I'm "leading" them much better now.

        Congrats.

Once you have a good idea of what percentage of customers convert from free to paid members, I would set up a one time offer before or on the thank you page with a discount to join right off the bat and split test that.

I actually did have the "thank you page" set up as an OTO before where it provides them with a 10% off discount code. I didn't let it run very long. I never thought about A/B testing it though. I like that idea. Thanks!

    148 x $59 = $8,732

This month isn't as hot as last month so far, but I've still been making about 5 to 7 sales per day.
5-7 per day = 150-210 which is greater than 148.

    Let's say, I'm skeptical.

Considering I wrote this post last night as I was laying in bed at 2 am, I guess I recalled that 148 number, but forgot to include the other 20 or so sales that I made in the beginning of September at $45 for my Labor day sale.

However, if you are skeptical then I would advise you not to buy my premium course that I have linked in the description about how to make $10K per month.

They had some up sells products on the backend. This is the only way he could have gotten to $14k+-.

        Nope. No upsells at all.

I've been trying to think of what I could add as an upsell, but as of now...I only have one single product which I sell for $59.

Nicely done! I have some questions for you because I am curious to learn more.

What is your focus regarding traffic in the future? You will focus only on Youtube videos or you will have other sources as well?

Do you take your videos transcripts and turn them into articles for extra traffic?

What kind of platform you use to sell your product?

How do you make those videos and what's included in them?

I definitely will be using paid traffic. I'm working on adding some physical products to my site right now, and once I have that in place I will start learning how to use FB ads. I've been following some YouTubers about this, and it's definitely intimidating, but I I definitely want to learn. I want to have more than just 1 product for sale prior to using paid traffic though.

Yes, every video that I post on YouTube is also hosted on my website via Vimeo. This way, if YouTube ever bans my account I'm still backed up. Each video comes with an associated "written version" too for SEO purposes.

The entire site is built using wordpress, and my "product" is simply a membership using the "memberpress" plugin.

I make these videos in my room with a little camera and a decent microphone. I then edit the videos using Sony Vegas. Pretty basic setup.

I've found that the trick is to just keep on working on your business every day, and never stop!

Well this is the reward for your persistence and risk-taking. Congratulations.

Next Step: looking at your margins more closely.

You have a steady Traffic stream now and with it comes a Cost Per Lead and Cost of Customer Acquisition.

You may have been ignoring the costs because they're "free" and therefore invisible, but your time has a cost in making those videos.

    Revenue - COCA = Margin

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1. What's my current margin?

    2. What's a realistic and manageable target I can improve my margin to?

    3. Now that the traffic boost from the "hot piece of content" is fading a bit, what could you do to have a repeat occurrence by creating a new but similar video?

    4. Given that Traffic quality and Conversion success are the two main 'levers' I have control over affecting, which side of the revenue equation will I work on first? (not both, because you'll muddy the waters and never know exactly what improvement made the difference...and then how would you duplicate it later?)

The fastest and easiest way you can add more income to this?

Take your $59 product... add a bunch of perceived value to it, by including some extra
stuff that doesn't cost much or take much of your time.

When someone goes to check out for the $59 offer... use a checkout
card/order form that gives them 2 versions to choose from.

The regular version and then an advanced option.

You can do the $59 and then by adding more perceived value
to that $59 product... you can charge $97 or more.

Then use this kind of checkout/order page to let people
    choose...

    .

All you do is find some bonuses or add some content
to your current offer that gives the buyer more value.

I can almost assure you... it could easily add profits to your
offer, without doing much work at all.

    Good job!!

Quick tip/Question: Have you thought about adding a yearly plan as an option?

Maybe you can give two or one month free if persons decide to pay for the year in advance.

That could quickly boost your income with a lot less sales because a percentage of your customers will always take the upsell.

If you offer two months free and someone takes the upsell for the year that's still a $590 pay for one sale as opposed to just $59.

As I imagine, a percentage of your customers will always cancel after a few months.

I've tried doing a recurring model of $10/month or $99/yr...that model always fails for me. Pretty much every time that I've tried to either raise the prices and/or make it into a recurring model, sales have massively decreased.

My solution has been to start focusing on adding an ecommerce store to my site. Additionally, I'm going to be building a second site that has monthly subscription model...these things won't affect what's already working!

Yes, in order to become a member of the site at all - whether free or paid, people have to fill out a form. This puts them on either my prospect or buyers list.

How many of those people "upgrade" as a direct result of my email autoresponder sequence vs. How many of those people would have bought the full access membership anyway? I'm not exactly sure.

All I know is that having people sign up for the free membership, then going through the series of 5 promotional emails definitely helps. This is also good for the long run too, so I can run sales as well as let people know about my other products when they become available.

      Sure.

First off, I'm not selling anything here on this warrior forum. I'm not even in the MMO niche (although, I may build a course one day explaining exactly what I do as a second project). I'm in the music niche.

My entire philosophy is based off Steve Pavlina's. I don't know if you follow his blog, but he is the only person that I ever followed since I got into IM. His website is about personal growth, with only a small portion of his content geared towards how to make money.

Basically I just give everything away for free. I'll sometimes spend 2 to 3 days just making a YouTube video (which is free). I currently have about 150 YouTube videos.

Because YouTube has control over my videos/account, I also have a duplicate of every single video hosted through Vimeo on my site. This way, I actually own and control all of them. I also make a written version of each of these free videos for SEO purposes.

When people sign up to my "free membership" that's what they get. They get access to all the stuff that's already free on YouTube, with the main benefit being that everything is organized better on my site.

I then have the option to "upgrade to full access" for a one-time fee of $59. This gives people access to about 3000 additional videos. I'm also constantly adding more and more stuff, which they don't have to pay for since the one-time fee includes all updates to the site.

In short...I give all my knowledge on the subject away for free. I then have an extremely low-cost offer available which offers WAY more value then what I'm charging. The upgrade is almost a no-brainer!

If I were a better marketer, I could probably make 10 times what I'm making now. However, I am learning all of this stuff myself. I hired a coach back in January for $5000...he was a bit helpful, but not much. Everything that I have done so far has all been me just figuring this stuff out along the way.

A good marketer would laugh at my "method", because I honestly feel that I'm leaving a TON of money on the table. However, it's generating enough income each month to make a decent living for myself, which was the goal from the start. So it works for me .

Hopefully that helped. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

(I'm purposely not sharing my YouTube link though. I'd like to remain somewhat anonymous on here.)

You're in the music niche? Wow! This is amazing. Can I ask, as a tutor or something else? I'm not asking you to give anything away, I know you don't want to, but I have a good reason for asking. Music has so many different niches within itself.

    I like your style.

Pavlina...nice blast from the past that guy really stood out how much content he shared with zero ads. By the time he would do a pitch it was instant riches...for him at least.

But as you share that was last of his priorities. Extremely generous first.

Just went over to his site just now looking good. I remember sometimes it felt like I was reading a 7 page single paragraph back in the day.

But that is scary the success you are having with your strategy when you are right it could be on steroids if you shifted to the next gear.

Congrats and thank you for all the excellent follow up.

Just wondering - In the series of 5 promotional emails, do you teach something or just pitch for the sale?
I do a 10 day sequence of teaching (basically some info then sending them to a blog post) & have an image at the bottom of the mail for the main product, but perhaps that is too many days.

Hey, it's just basic guitar lessons with an emphasis on music theory .

Each email is simply a "sneak peak" a full access member video, along with a button that says "learn more about becoming a full access member".

The emails are very non-invasive, but also still giving them a reminder of what I have to offer.

In the final email I thank them for following the series, and then let them know that I will be emailing only about once per month from this point forward.

After that, I just shoot out monthly updates and holiday sales.

  • Hi,

    Congratulations on your success!

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been working on this site? I've been thinking of starting my own venture with SEO, but kinda want an idea of the difficulty of ranking in 2019.

    Thanks!

Hey, I started this business in April of 2016. I never paid any mind to rankings or SEO. I just built the site to help people, and I made it as user-friendly as possible. My objective was to just continuously add fresh, new helpful content as much as possible and stick with it for AT LEAST 5 years. I'm in year 3 now, and it's beginning to pay off .

What got me started on the path that ultimately led to where I'm at today, which is simply "have a website, have content, and have something for sale on it", was a course called "getting rich with eBooks".

I spent $497 on the course, and while it seems ridiculous to me to have spent that on what the course actually taught me, it still caused me to force myself to take lots of action.

In other words, sometimes it may be worth buying an expensive "crappy course", because at the end of the day it is 100% entirely up to you to take action. Dropping a bunch of money on a course will definitely help push you to do that!

I feel inspired and drop kicked. Getting Rich with eBooks? No videos or coaching in that $497?

Not player hatin...appreciatin I have been doing it all wrong. Face Palm.

Reminds of a SNL skit Eddie Murphy was selling a book for $50 on how to get people to send you $50.

Dude, I fell for ALL the tricks back then when I purchased that course. The VSL had me literally run out to my car and grab my wallet because I actually believed that I had to buy right then and there or the offer would be gone. I had just recently quit my job and was living off what I had saved up. I was broke as ****, with bills to pay, but I never pulled out my credit card to pay a random stranger $500 so fast in my entire life. Hahaha.

I knew absolutely NOTHING about IM back then though. I wasn't on any forums or anything. Literally, the only thing that I was going by was Steve Pavlina's blog posts geared towards creating passive income. One of those posts was about "eBooks", which I had never heard of at the time, and in that post he recommend the getting rich with eBooks course. I was completely unaware of the concept of affiliate marketing back then too.

I was totally duped into buying this overpriced course, in which I could have found the same content for free through google searches!

BUT, despite the face that I was completely oblivious to the tricks of the trade, I was determined to follow every single thing this course told me to do because there was no way in hell I was wasting $500 when that was about 1/20 of my total savings at the time!!

At the end of the day, I had created for myself:

          - an ebook about "quitting your job"
          - a wordpress website which was about "quitting your job"
          - an aweber account
          - a way to have the ebook delivered automatically after someone purchased it
          - I also uploaded the ebook onto Amazon as well.
          - I started "blogging"

My site was ugly. The delivery method of the ebook was atrocious. The marketing was non-existent. I knew next to nothing about what I was doing. But somehow I managed to sell a copy of that $5 eBook every once in a while. I don't know where the traffic came from...maybe random google searches, and then they found my blog posts?? I dunno.

But the main point was that the course caused me to take action, which taught me skills along the way. I continued to refine those skills over the years, and now I know what I'm doing.

It's crazy the paths that we take in life, but we humans can accomplish just about anything with enough relentless persistence.

But there's a missing piece.... driving traffic. Care to elaborate on that part (without spilling any secret sauce, of course)? All of us here at WaFo, both veterans and noobs, can always learn a thing a new thing or two about traffic generation and (the main traffic related concept I'm focusing on lately) traffic PRE-QUALIFICATION to boost conversions or (for newbies) to get traffic at all.

Probably about 95% of my traffic comes from just making a bunch of YouTube videos. I'll also share a post that is directly on my site on Reddit every once in a while too....but mostly YouTube

Haha no...I've been building this business for over 3 years. These 150 YouTube videos were made over a long period of time. I just happened to make one that got a bunch of views, and it caused a traffic spike for me.

This is not the result of a "quick method" or anything. This is a long-term business endeavor.

I was steadily making about $1000 to $2000 per month from selling my course, but then it just spiked up in September and October.

Originally Posted by samkadya View Post

I'm not sure exactly what my monthly traffic numbers are, but I was doing about 200 to 300 "sessions" per day according to Google Analytics for about the last year.

In September, the traffic spike jumped up to about 1000 "sessions per day", but it has since been going down a little bit. I'm floating around 600 to 800 sessions per day as of now.

The changes that I made were:

1.) Make my homepage better so it adequately describes what I'm offering

2.) Beef up my sales page with more images and better descriptions of what they will get after purchasing

3.) Always try to follow the "one page, one goal" principle that people waste $97/month on Clickfunnels doing

4.) Add a "thank you page" after someone signs up for the free membership to my site. This thank you page is a sales page to upgrade right then and there.

Other then that, it's just been 3.5 years of grinding and working at building this business every single day .
