Video Conversion Steps

I am missing some instructions for converting video to the FLV format. I originally got them (I think) from a post in here and Josh Anderson had thrown his many 2 cents in that made it a piece of Gold.

But due to my system needing reformatting my text copy is gone or I cannot find it.

Does anyone have the proper steps?

    I must've missed that post but there are dozens of decent converters out there and quite a few of them for free. Some will even convert formats online while you wait. Here's a free one that you can use (and trust). The NAG screen for the Pro version isn't too worrisome. It's called Any Video Converter: Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG

    Free converters don't convert to VP6, the best .flv codec
    in wide usages. The open-source converters like super
    use an older, less efficient codec called H264. If you want
    the best quality Flash use VP6.

    My preferred free converter is Xvid4PSP - though I don't
    use it for final rendering .FLV.

      I agree that free converters use a codec older than VP6, but it ain't H.264. The older Flash codec commonly used is known as Sorenson Spark. H.264 was developed as a joint project of the MPEG standards board and Apple computer. It was initially available only for MP4 and Quicktime. It has been considered to be the best codec available for some time now, and was only added as an option in Flash encoders a few months ago.

      The main problem here is that you don't usually want to just CONVERT another video format to Flash video. You want to ENCODE a master video file (with the highest possible resolution) as a Flash video file. Using a high quality Flash video encoder is the only way to achieve the benefits of Flash video - a decent looking picture quality with a very small file size.

      There's a high quality Flash video encoder built into both Adobe Flash and Adobe After Effects. Both of these are available as a fully functional 30 day free trial. Although the download is a whopper! I've seen references to the fact that On2 Technologies' Flix is available in a low cost version and/or as a free trial. Personally, I don't like the user interface in Flix. I prefer Sorenson Squeeze for Flash.

    I think this is the actual thread you are looking for. He mentions On2 Flix Standard for the encoding and that's what I use and it works great. It's not a free solution though.

    I'm not too keen on the free services. Several months ago is when I last worked with Videos and it was that thread that I used for producing a video for a client. The other issue I was working through was the Red Screens when the video was playing on FireFox. The instructions that I followed stopped the Red Screens which was a great thing.
