Hi everyone,

I'm not sure what kind of hosting to choose for my new YouTube-like website. Basically, my YouTube channel got demonetized lately that's why I'm creating a new website where I can host my videos. I chose JW player as a video player instead of YouTube.

I expect a lot of visitors to my website, since my YouTube videos get around 600k views monthly. What kind of hosting should I choose?

I appreciate your thoughts

my YouTube videos get around 600k views monthly.
Do you think you will get that amount of traffic on a new site?

I would just change the monetization method.

VPS isn't a type of hosting it's a level. All hosts offer shared, VPS, and Dedicated servers.

      Thanks for your input.

No, I don't think I'll get that amount of traffic at the beginning.

What do you suggest as a monetization method?

That depends on the market. You can promote affiliate products. Build a list and market to it over time. Create a product and sell it from your own site. You can link from the description to pretty much anywhere you choose.

Probably you are looking for Streaming Video Hosting Services. VPS Hosting and Cloud Hosting can be used for website, or some other web resource. But to stream video you need special type of hosting.

Exactly, videos should be host in their own streaming video CDN and the website can just be Wordpress or whatever on $5 VPS like DigitalOcean, its good.

If you have no experience with web hosting and how to manage servers, I would suggest you go with a managed host that sells VPS. Get KVM if you can.

I can recommend looking at Amazon Web Services, this is a powerhouse of internet tools and resources which many of the commercial hosting companies actually use themselves, but present their services with a 'cover image' which looks as if they are providing the back-end, like a kind of 'White Labeling'.
AWS offer substantial streaming power, and solid storage for video.
This can be expensive, but there are ways and means to mitigate the costs, the 1st year is actually free for much of their resource catalog.
It is worth having a look at AWS, they are truly a serious contender.

I use AWS currently and they are very good. Of the hosts I have used over the years, they are the most hassle free one I have found

There are many reasons why you'll possibly won't get the kinds of traffic you normally get from YouTube if you transfer your videos to your own website. Firstly, the technology and process of YouTube cannot easily replicate. YouTube already has a huge customer base and it's ranked 2nd in the world. One of the best thing to do is leave your videos in YouTube and find ways to funnel your viewers form YouTube to your website. Any cloud hosting will do but you do need powerful media services like Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure to host your videos.

    Hello,
Here are the lists of factors that differentiate Cloud hosting and VPS hosting.
    1. Scalability: is the biggest difference between the two hosting types. When compared with VPS hosting, Cloud hosting posses high scalability. However, if you want to launch your site quickly, then opting for VPS would be the better option.
    2. Flexibility: If you looking for the server with the more flexible hosting option, then choosing the cloud-hosting environment would be the right option. The cloud server offers more flexibility than the VPS server does.
    3. Reliability: Cloud hosting offers more reliability and powerful functionality when compared with VPS hosting. In VPS hosting, reliability and functionality are fixed and there is a high chance of your site getting down because of server failure.
    4. Server Resources: VPS hosting generally allocate a specific amount of server resources to the hosted site on its server. However, cloud hosting offers a pool of unified computing resources. If you looking for hosting offering better computing server resources, then opting for cloud hosting would be the best idea.
    5. Security: The security level of the VPS hosting is almost equaled to the dedicated server, so eventually it simply outstands the cloud hosting.

Your website get a little bit matured that is you get 600k visitors/month, then you definetly have to use VPS or Cloud hosting services.

  • Hosting videos on your own website can be very resource heavy. I would suggest that you go with a managed cloud hosting service, deploy a WordPress website and openup an account on services like Wistia.com.

Upload the videos in your Wistia account and embed them on your WordPress websites. The embeds will take a lot of load off your website as videos will be rendered off site.

For WordPress website, have it on a cloud hosting like Cloudways, their services are optimized and can handle a lot of concurrent traffic. If your content goes viral then you can easily scale up the server.

Cloud VPS is affordable compared to Cloud hosting, I recommend you to go with Cloud VPS where you can only pay for the resources you want.

Hosting videos on a site needs huge amount of resources. I am afraid VPS is not a choice for you. You can go with Cloud server that is pay as you go or you can opt for a dedicated server.

I will suggest bluehost, and Jwplayer is better or you can switch to vimeo as well.

    Best Regards.

Dedicated servers are the best. After that, VPS. After that, shared server, After that, the cloud. There are many problems with the cloud including security issues, in my opinion.

    Hii,
If you have no any idea which hosting solution is best for your business. I would suggest you go with a managed host that sells VPS Hosting . It works virtualization technology to provide you with dedicated (private) support on a server with many users.
Cloud hosting is expensive more than VPS Server. Cloud hosting serves better when you're running a large e-commerce website, and any downtime or heavy speeds due to a traffic spike can cost you thousands of dollars.
