Can you scale your project?

My wife has this month an income that is10x that of an average monthly income in her country with her online business. This is great of course, but it for that she works a lot.

With her project, she wants to invest in buying an apartment but to reach that her income has to grow at least with a factor 3 to 4. And this is not possible. Because her project is difficult to scale. She gives a lot of attention to all her clients, doesn't want help from outside and is convinced she has to do all by herself. She has become the project herself.

This last problem is a problem that many entrepreneurs have, they are afraid to outsource parts of their project to scale up.

So my question to you guys is, is your project scalable? And if yes, what did you do to make it scalable? And if not, what are your main problems?

    You have 2 problems that I see...

    1. Buying an apartment building is a business, not an investment... unless you have the right team in place

    2. She doesn't seem to like the idea of giving up control of the parts of her business.

    I'm not sure what she does but I will say that the only ways to scale a business that I know of are to:

    1. Outsource
    2. Raise Prices
    3. Sell Subscriptions

    The thing I did was Outsource and sell subscriptions, because it give you two ways to scale at once.

    These days, I don't take on any businesses that don't have the ability to scale. The goal for me is not just to make money but to have freedom of time as well.

      No, it wasn't, WE don't have problems. My wife has a dilemma and some challenges for the future. And they will be solved.

      I wrote it down as an example, that I know many smaller entrepreneurs like my wife's face when they want to scale up. By sharing it here, I hope that others will share it as well, so we (Forum members) can learn from it for the future.

        Your wife is like many; they start because they don't like their current situation (the money or the boss or they think they can do better); then they end up with a job not a business, because they convince themselves IT cannot function without them.


        Most projects (all?) are scalable, if you're willing to change something.



        First business I owned was a real estate appraisal company. I had 7 appraiser and 2 assistants. I thought I was a genius, very important to my business. And I was, without me, within a few weeks there would have been no business.



        But I could not grow it, because I had become a bottleneck, because I was too important in the day-to-day activities.


        Many have that situation. As long as you're too essential to the day-to-day stuff, it's not really a business, just a better-paid job.


        One of the hardest parts for people is to delegate and do it well.


        PS In my way of looking at the world, YOUs don't have a problem, your wife does: she thinks she "is convinced she has to do all by herself. She has become the project herself." To me, that's a problem. Sorry.

          Yes, that's the thing outsourcing some part of projects can help in managing more n more clients.

    In the 2012-13 era my sales training business grew rapidly. But I limited that growth with one bad idea. The content was delivered by a 2 hour presentation. My mistake was believing customers were hiring ME... what I should have done is hired other consultative sales trainers to deliver the material.

    Instead, I believed "only I" could do the job, and that severely limited delivery. In hindsight I ought to have been happy with similar trainers delivering 80% of my material and 20% of "their way"...the buyers certainly would not have known any difference and it may have even been improved that way. We could have done several times as many presentations per week.

    I throttled growth just when the idea was popular, and that was a mistake. Exactly what you're talking about here, allegandro.
