Are your sites being seen in China?

Perhaps, if your site is crawled by Badiu. I know mine are I get traffic from China and Chinese spam.

Yes. I can see my site with no problem. I live in Hong Kong, and constantly go to Shenzhen, where I have no trouble checking my site out.

Two of mine on Hostgator are visable, two aren't. Go Figure.
I moved a couple over to 1&1 and my contact over there says
she can get them most of the time but not always.

I've been living in China until very recently.

Although the rules are pretty complex and changeable, my two years spent there taught me that generally there are two types of blocks. The first is the manual block, this can effect a whole domain, single pages, and on the IP address level. There is nothing that can be done about these (unless it's the IP ban, in which case move servers, this type of block is pretty rare, and I wouldn't worry about it myself, the rules can change so fast that researching which hosts have IPs blocked isn't worth the effort.)

The 2nd, and much more common variant is a content based bad. Keywrods, phrases, urls to other pages can set this off - but generally if your page isn't dealing with politically sensitive issues you'll avoid the content based blocks.

A far bigger issue when dealing with China is connectivity.

Internet speeds within mainland China to other sites in mainland China (and hong kong) are pretty good. Most home users have 1-2mb ADSL or a similar speed on FTTB.

The real problem is traffic in and out of the country. I belive almost all traffic to 'the west' is routed via Hong Kong, Taiwan then Japan. I forget the exact route. Accessing foreign sites from within the mainland is SLOW. Blocked or otherwise, sometimes this means very slow to the point of unusable.

I could ramble on... but the long and short of it is that if you are going to target the Chinese market you should get hosting in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has fast links to the West and fast links to the mainland.

I only know if I actually talk to or email them THERE and ask them to look.
One of my contacts checks mine when she comes in to work in the morning and before she leaves in the evening. She's in a place called Shandong Province. Also, if I get any action
off Alibaba I know that two of them are working and they are the ones
that count.

There are several web sites you can visit to see if your sites are visible in China.
Most of them will list Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. I cannot recall the exact names but google it and you'll sort them out.
