.com or .info?

Can someone tell me why a .com domain would be better than a .info domain? Is there a difference and why? I am just starting to research this and your input will help me... going forward to purchase the correct domains for my websites.

How about .net and .org?

  • My experience on this and I've even tried two domains of the same name with .com and .net and the .com always outranks it. As a matter of fact, sometimes my .com name outranks the .net before all the content is on the .com. Also, even if you don't believe me, .com domains sell for more!

    • Thanks Tommy. This helps as I am doing this research before I build more sites to sell.
  • Christie,
I use .info for several reasons. They are cheap, most names have not been taken and in most of my experience most people just click on the hyperlink. Back in the early days, when people used to type the url it made a difference. I am probably loosing some traffic, but I think the trade off is worth it. Good luck on your choice.

  • .com is the defacto TLD for internet.

    .info projects a cheap outlook!
  • Hi Christie,

Don't scrimp on this one, after all is said and done, .com is far superior to .info

Google ranks a .com site higher

.info is associated with spam sites

Type in traffic (when you tell people that you have a site, lots of time they will not remember or use the .info part when typing in their browser, but will use .com and you lose out on that traffic.)

use dashes, hyphens whatever .com rocks! not .net or org just .com

    Hope that helps
  • I don't think any difference between the traffic between .info and .com as I am having both type of doamins (e-petcare.info and cathealthcareguide.com). I think the best thing which favors the traffic is nothing but the CONTENT and also the period of updation of your blog/site (daily posting or weekly twice).

    • A lot of people say that .info domains will get ranked as well in the search engines as .com domains will, and I have no hard evidence to refute that. However, in doing Google searches in my personal (non-IM) life, it seems to me to be very rare that I see a .info in the search results. For that reason alone, I spring for a .com, or at least .net or .org.
